Rex, i think you've summed up most peoples feelings on here in a very good way and whilst i do hope someone comes up with a decent alternative to ebay i just can't see this particular one being it.

Rex, you have summed up precisely and exactly why this thread feels wrong, thank you.

Maybe that easyjet guy, forgot his name can invest and become a competitor, his got a good business mind and usually his stuff works. He can call it easybay. I dont really see anyone having a chance unless they invest large sums of money.

It is fine and easy to find flaws in any idea but I haven't found any suggestion on what this guy could do to improve his chances. Instead of just criticising why don't we encourage his efforts and even better make some useful suggestions to help him improve? Ideas MSEs.... Ideas is what he wants.:money:
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

I don't think it seems like the OP wants any ideas at all. He's showed us his site and all he says is 'we are free if you want to use us' Soolin made some very good suggestions and asked questions in her posts and the OP hasn't even acknowledged them.

I saw this thread before anyone had posted on it and was going to say "oh no, not another auction wannabe" but decided that I make this comment too much so thought I'd let other people say it.

No matter how many people complain about ebay - they still go back to them. Ebid used to be a good site for buyers but sellers have clicked they need to start at higher prices to get decent prices for their products and so buyers are put off knowing they can't really grab any deals. Ebay is great for sellers in one sense because you get more coverage but depending on what you are selling then buyers now expect things to sell for much less than what it's worth.

So what I'm saying is that decent sellers wont register with you because they know it will be a waste of time as they wont get much exposure for their products and buyers wont register because no seller in their right mind is going to start auctions at a low price.

Although I don't particularly like some of the harsh criticism on this thread I do tend to agree with what has been said so far, regarding this 'new' auction site.

I'm sure you started this with the best intensions but sadly for me and many others this market of online auctions has already been done, with eBay. As has already been said unless you have some niche, which I think within this market would still be incredibly difficult to find, then you really don't have a chance.

I hate being so negative about a project and admire that you're giving it a go but I suggest you go back to the drawing board and try to come up with a somewhat more original idea, maybe away from the market of online auctions. eBay has a clear monopoly, that no one without extrodinary amounts of money could even hope to tap into.

I will credit you on the fact you're obviouslly ambitious, so use that to try and adapt and make your idea work or have a further think about what you could do! With a bit of confidence and some fresh thinking you can make a success of online business!

I agree with so many of the comments already made ... the site is doomed. It is always hard when you have an idea that turns into a reality..that turns into a dream..but this is just never going to work. The website looks like a school project .. there is a spelling mistake on the home page (urghh) If anyone was prepared to give it a go as a seller - as a buyer you would not trust them. I cant see how you can ever make any money out of this..you would only get decent advertising banners if the sponsors thought they would get a decent audience. You obviously have passion, enthusiasm and ambition .. you really need to go back to the drawing board and think of a new business venture. Sad ..but true.
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

Have you been reading the same thread as me?

I've seen critisism of the 'free' idea, but I've also seen some very good suggestions on a possible way forward for the OP.

I allways recommend reading all the posts in a thread before posting, rather than the last couple of posts.

  • thanks guys iv read all the posts so far, yep you are right and the advice is brill, l never get down just because someone has spoke their mind thats the best advice anyone can give.once the site is up and running properly the plan is to direct it to n.ireland users only, this is going to be the unique selling point of the site, free / northern ireland / and the 6 counties, l havent seen any sites focusing on n.i and offering free advertising, or any website promotion in papers or the radio. so this is really what we are working at in the long run.

thanks for the help so far.
