I'm so confused by tax credits? I get £90 a month at the moment that's using last years income of approx £32k. Obviously as I'm on maternity leave my pay is now much less than last year, does this mean I will get more next year when I use this years income? iykwim

.. is that for CTC or WTC? our household income is over £23k (not by much) but we definitely get more than £50 a month

CTC only - we don't get any WTC. Yours will be higher cos you have Chris as well as the baby element we'll both be getting for Rhys and Ed, plus I don't know if the fact I work 38hrs/wk normally counts for anything too
  • Jvic, you can do it that way, or if you need the extra money now, you can phone them and change this years claim. But don't forget you can leave off the £100 a week of mat allowance ( I think) as it is not counted as an income.

But you won't get any extra if your household income stays over £23k..
  • Em, the job centre people can do you a 'better off' calculation... I used to get one every 6 months with my lone parent advisor... I think they use pretty much the same system as entitled to though, have you tried number crunching in there?

Had a crappy night last night, Caitlyn woke me for a feed at 1, Aimee woke me for a change of night clothes at 2, Caitlyn woke me for another feed at 4... then again at 6... Got up at half 7, tried to get a water sample off Aimee to take to the Dr, she's wet herself at night 3 nights on the trot now and that only usually happens when she has an ifection, but getting that girl to pee on demand is like squeezing blood out of a stone... Just can't be done! I might aswell take a pair of her sopping pants to the Drs! Or just try again tomorrow...

Popped to town this morning and fetched one of hubbys christmas presents, trouble is... It's in a huuuuuuuuuuuge box and I have no idea how to hide it lol.. Was going to ask my Mum to keep it at her house but she's just flown off to America for a couple of weeks... As it is I've put it in 2 bin bags and popped it under the stairs, piled a load of under stairs crap on it and parked the pram in front of it... Hiding it in plain sight lol...

In a dilema now though... Clinic is on this afternoon till 3:30... Do I go now, risk a potential too long wait and have to rush to fetch Aimee from school (its only on fortnightly for 3 different Drs surgerys so it gets very busy!) Or do I fetch Aimee from school and hope that we can get down the hill to the Drs before they finish and risk missing it again for another fortnight? I shall pop to the loo and think about it...

And here's a cute pic to keep you all going... http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=4060536&l=8b15e59997&id=540180659

Gosh we only get £40 a month based on last years income of 26k. Why am I being shafted? Lol. Unless you've all got more than 1 child.

Hope OH overtime picks back up or he gets his production bonus. I have worked out we have £210 to last us 15days (well we actually have £710) but I don't want to go below £500. Where does the money go.....

Actually since Keira has started nursery THATS where money goes, because the Tesco metro is right beside it, so I pop in for a loaf and spend £20, and I think the prices in there are a bit higher than normal Tescos, I bought a 6pack of fromage frais today, cost almost £2, normally Tesco has those on offer.

    Scandalous!
  • £210 to last 15 days? We have less than that to get us through the month!

I've put baby einstein on the tv... Caitlyn loves it!

  • elle, I have never heard that before, it might be worth my while to cut down my hours a little bit, say 4 a week, as my wage this year plus bonus will probably take me over that, and then Chris gets £5k a year for incapacity benefit, must look into that
    Thanks hun :)

The CTC/WTC thing is horrrrribly confusing. I have spent lengthy hours putting various scenarios into entitledto.co.uk and the various gov websites trying to understand what and why we get when etc etc.
I have still just been slightly ambushed this month by child benefit dropping (Elijah now over 1 year) and CTC dropping (to 2 pounds a month I think...) because of my income increasing last year etc. All very confusing.

Elle I am very sad that you are so down :( you have been doing such a great (and inspirational!) job, it's no wonder it's been draining you :/. Try to find something you can do to recharge batteries a bit if you can :( and lean on us if we can help! And get some sleep!

And Em what a horrible miserable thing :( I hope it's not as bad as you fear and CAB/the internet can work out ways in which you can be better off/motivated to work or not work. I think MM's post about childcare was just awesome.
