em - i know how you feel. i'm dreading caitlyn going to the childminder. the childminder islovely and only 2 mins away from work, but i keep thinking she'll forget who her mummy is :( because of DHs wages we're only on basic tax credits, and me giving up work wouldn't make any difference. But we can't affordfor me not to go. And besides, i enjoy my job, and one day caitlyn will be at school and i'll only need the childminder in the holidays.

And i too don't want the childminder to be first to see her walk/hear a word etc.

:wall:Bloody tax credits.. Got the classic "no, can't be done" the first time I phoned, so I phoned back and the next woman I spoke to agreed to amend my income, no problem! However, it makes no difference to our claim and we're still only on the basic - apparently you need a household income of less than £23k to get any more than the basic (and we've just gone from £46k to £31k so it makes no odds). At least we know.. :)

On the bright side, they changed my bank details and are informing Child Benefit of the change too so that's one less phone call to make.. hmm, small mercies!

On to the DLA forms now.. fun, fun fun :(

*big hugs* for Em :o Haven't tried it, but this site - http://benefits-adviser.direct.gov.uk/index.html - might help until you can get to the CAB xx
  • pink, don't even for one second think she will forget who mummy is, as I say I had to do it with Jasmine, and will have to do it again now in January with Dylan, as my OH is on long term incapacity, but no matter how much she loved the nursery, I always got the biggest smile you have ever saw when I picked her up at night, and when she got a bit older, the excitement in her little voice telling me what she had done was great. Mummy will always be the best, no amount of things you miss will change that. Yes there will be days when you will have to miss something, but just try to make the most of the time you have at home, so have a take out instead of cooking now and then, or leave the dishes, or go out and jump in puddles in the rain when that would normally be washing day !!
It is good for mummies to get some adult time, even if ideally it was not as much as going to work, just try to accept what you need to do and make the most of what you have :)

MM - thankyou that was lovely :) DS went/goes to the same childminder but not as often as caitlyn will be going. she will be going every day which i think is what makes me sad.

That is really awful Emlou :( I'm sure there must be something that would boost your income, there is no way you should be worse off by returning to work.

What if you don't go back to work, wouldn't that mean your income is a lot less thus you'll get more/same benefits?

I've no idea how it works, I just know I hate tax credits for saying I frauded them and making me pay back almost 3k! They only give me a lousy £10 a week!!
  • Get me being all positive, I know it is easier said than done, it took me over a year and a half to accept that I had no choice but to be at work, I think it will be hard again this time, but being at home with the 2 of them so far has shown me that a spur of the moment trip to walk along the beach can really cheer you up !!

is that for CTC or WTC? our household income is over £23k (not by much) but we definitely get more than £50 a month
