Ok I need an idiot's guide :rotfl:

    Boil Kettle
    ???Allow to cool a bit
Add specified amount of hot water into bottle
    Add powder
    Shake
Pop it straight into the fridge

When needed - pop in a jug of warm water to heat

Glam - Yep. That's how my mum did it, and my sis for her 3.
Tara - because the door get opened it's not as cold as the actual inside of the fridge.

My MW advised to boil the water and keep the water in the fridge - again, she said not in the door - and add the powder when needed - but the powder is supposed to be added to water over 70 degree to ensure it is sterile, but I wouldn't heat the water to that temp so I figured the other way is safer. The powder is going into v. hot water to kill the nasties, and being kept in a sterile bottle in the fridge, so not chance for nasties to form :D

Glam - it will get easier - honest :)

This is exactly how I was told to do it by my midwife...and it makes perfect sense to me......
Water over 70 to kill bugs....cooled quickly (I put mine in sink of cold water) then stored in fridge to prevent bacteria growing, reheated when needed......as the bacteria thrives at 50c and it doesn't get reheated to that temp anyway so is still 'safe'....

That night bottle warmer is the exact one I used, so I didn't have to go down in the night to heat the bottle...

Glam, Maddy is a complete poppet, and I do go with the flow. We didn't even have a feeding routine until last week when the older ones went back to school. She was over 7wks. If she cried, I held her, and she still sleeps with me in my arms but she is very happy to sit in her chair or lie on her mat for a good length of time and I'm sure her calmness is because she feels safe and contented.
Too many children, too little time!!!

    NO
    like this
    1. boil kettle allow to cool for no longer than 30mins! - this ensures it is above 70c
    2. pour specified amount into bottle - use ml, not oz's
    3. add correct amount of scoops of powder - shake very well.
    4. stand in sink of cold water...cant put hot things directly into fridge - they cool to slowly and allow bacteria to multiply
    5. store in fridge for no longer than 24hrs - make required number of bottles for the 24hr period
    6. pop in jug of boiling water to heat (or if me..in micro)

Well done Dylan!!! MM, does he have tortecollis?? Were you given stretches to do, I can't remember if yo told me or not, sorry.

    .

We havent been given a diagnosis of anything yet until he has had the full physio referral. He just has fists all the time, never used to open his hands at all. I think everyone thought I was exaggerating and kept getting told that all babies hold their hands in fists, but not all babies never open them EVER !!! The peadiatritian just said to massage them out asoften as possible to encourage him to stretch his fingers

MM - feel like I've abandoned u hun. Sorry :o
You make the effort to keep my company at the hospital and then I don't even comment on your fantastic little boy's acheivement!

    Well done Dylan!!

Oh, I'm having a poo day today.

Oh hun, you havent abandoned me :p You are busy with a beautiful new baby !! With regards to bottles, when Jasmine was born, we were told to make them up in boiling water, leave them to cool for 5 - 10 mins than store in the fridge and heat up in a jug of boiling water as and when needed. Now we go against the 'rules' out at present and fill 140ml in 3 bottles at a time, and add 40ml of fresh boiled water as it is needed to heat it up, and then add the powder. Each to their own :cool:

ETA: Mel remembered the cool for no longer than 30 mins, and if you micro remember to shake at regular intervals to prevent heat spots :)

Mel - when you take the bottle up for the night time feed or before you go out (in the insulated bag which I'm getting tomorrow)?

    Do u
a.) Make as directed above and then at point 6, heat up and pop in the bag
    OR
b.) skip step 4 (cooling it down) and just pop it straight in the bag?

I'm getting the hang of this slowly!

Ok, so everyone does it differently and everyone has healthy babies which goes to show I am being a complete A R S E over all of this!

Just to add to the confusion :p I always made bottles up as soon as the kettle boiled, no cooling - coz I'm well hard with asbestos hands
