FIL annoys me, he always says Toby is an unusual name. I don't think so?
Unusual as in "that's a weird name which nobody's ever heard of" or unusual as in uncommon? I can't say that Toby ever struck me as an unusual name but now I think about it, your Toby is the only "real" Toby I can think of ever having come across - all the others have been in story books.

    both really!

This was his pattern from yday evening

    6.30pm - 50ml feed
stayed awake for a bit but then went to sleep
    10.30pm - 30ml feed
    Woke up at 12.45am - took a 30ml feed
    Woke up at 3.30am - took a 20ml feed
    Woke up at 6.30am - took a 50ml feed
Had skin to skin with me from 7.30am until 9am - I fell asleep with him on me :o
Was flat out then until I manage to wake him at 12.30pm for a 50ml feed
Is now flat out again with no signs of waking!

The MW said I have to make sure he feeds every 3-4hrs which is fine at night but I struggle in the day.

I give him as much milk as he will take in one go - which as you can see varies quite a bit. I feed him until he won't take anymore - I do wind him as well then try again with the bottle.

It's mostly forumla with a piddly bit of breast milk if I can get it

I know your worried (cos I was) about the jaundice and having to make sure they eat, but it does get better. He is taking a good bit, enough to keep him going anyway and if you can't wake him, you can't wake him. You can expect this to last till around 4 weeks then he will start taking more and waking easier for feeds. They told me every 3 hours but if I simply couldn't wake them then not to worry about it. And if you think about it, babies should take roughly 1oz per their age in weeks (so 1-2 for Jack) so he is taking what he should.

I still worry! :rotfl:Keep at the expressing, you are doing great! Every little bit you do get is packed full of goodness there is no such thing as 'not enough' right now.

He seemed to think it was 'odd'! He also thinks that Jacob is an odd name too though.

Do you know any cats called Toby? Everyone knows a cat (or dog) called Toby.

Oh, saw the childminder. She was lovely, and Toby really like her. She held him the whole time we were there, he didn't cry and even laughed for her! But she has a dog and her house is a bit messy :o

I don't think I can leave my baby. OH says he will use his flexitime to look after Tobes while I have appointments. Just need to teach him how to change him and feed him!

I know a Toby and we wondered about it for Alex. I think it's perfectly 'normal'.

Alex has spent the last 2 hours trying to sleep and noisily sucking his hands. Everytime I pick him up he drifts off, then I try to put him down and his eyes ping open. Wouldn't mind, but it's Imogen's nap time and I'd like to get some stuff done!

Have got his bottle ready early just in case (its a FF in the pm). But now he seems happy to whine and suck his fingers.

Persuaded doc to prescribe fluconazole (sp?) for the thrush. Will keep on with the cream and new Nystatin for Alex. Keeping everything crossed that it works this time. I did have to push it a bit. Even said that I was thinking of giving up feeding as that would stop the pain but he looked shocked and said, "Oh no, you shouldn't have to do that. It's the best thing for him,". Thought that button would work, he he!!

GRRR. Molly is not an unusual or bizarre name.

Why is it that people have referred to her - just today! - as Millie and Marley? Both of those are nice names but they're NOT HER NAME.

Anyone who can't get it right gets no baby cuddles
I know what you mean, we have had a couple of people call LO Harry instead. If I wanted him called that then I would have called him Harry ( although my Grandpa was always called Harry and his name was actually Henry)

Christopher was a tad jaundiced aswell, all away now, and its only been last week or so that he has his little awake periods -- usually from about 7 til his before bedtime feed which ranges from 10pm-12!

i have never heard that they should roughly take 1oz per their age in weeks!! Christopher has just started taking 6oz now and he only 5 weeks today. but he is a little grubber, and so was his sister....dunno who they got it from!! :o must have been their dad!!! haha ;)

I see, I know the professionals say things things but if a baby wants to sleep they'll sleep if we like it or not usually :p I'm sure he'll be fine if he goes longer so try to keep relaxed about it.
They do get better after a week or two, the only advice I have to add to what Tia said is that I have always carried on pretty much as normal in the day noise wise etc, so its noisy and bright in the day but dark n quiet (ish) at night :)

Just remember that before he arrived he weren't sure you'd be able to give him any BM at all so you are doing fantastically!! :T

    Thanks Sami (and Feelie)

During the day we are dead loud and it doesn't wake him - I keep it nice and bright. Then at night we tiptoe around and he wakes at the slightest thing!

Oh well, we'll get there eventually!

Just had a big old cry - OH is being such a PITA lately. I know he's bored being home and the 2 of us are rubbing each the up the wrong way but he says I am wasting too much time on here instead of looking after Jack! He doesn't understand that I'm trying to find ways of lookign after him better! He's gone out now to see about a job.

Now he's gone, Jack is awake so no chance of getting anything done - typical.

Carla, it's probably outdated advice now, (most of my parenting style is outdated by now) but it's what I was told with DS1. And it's only a rough guide. Up to about 6 weeks I think then they start to slow down. But mine never did, they were grubbers too (after the sleepy jaundiceness went away).

sounds a lot like what i went through with OH when i first had DD. we were both tired, and as you say, rubbing each other up the wrong way. our hormones dont help matters much either.
but...if Jack is asleep - then its mummy time unless u need to sterilise/express/tidyup/washing/ironing/cleaning.......u see where im going!?? As long as Jack isnt screamin blue murder - there nothing wrong (IMO) of spending some time online doing not-a-lot!??
