Some ideas off the top of my head, most if not all should be suitable for your film club. The one's with '#' at the begining are ones I think would make a decent first film...

    Babe
    The Dark Crystal
    # Labyrinth
    The Wizard of Oz
    Casablanca
    To Kill a Mockingbird
    Rocky (the first film)
Close Encounters of thr 3rd Kind
Star Wars (Episode 4: A New Hope)
    # Who Framed Roger Rabbit
    12 Angry Men
    Groundhog Day
    Stand By Me
    Jumanji

    Hope that helps :)

btw. To Kill a Mockingbird & 12 Angry Men are all time classics & ones that the film club should definately show! lots of discussion material there.

Have to disagree with "To Kill A Mockingbird"

Might have been an excellent book which conjured up all sorts images and racial tensions but the film is a big let down.
Only saw it for the very first time a few weeks ago on the TV - celebrating the 50th anniversary of the book release - first published on 11 July 1960 - I learned it was on about a week beforehand and put details on the fridge door to as not to forget and miss it.
I sat in anticipation with bated breath expecting edge of seat moments, nervous energy and brutal conflict.
Sorry but it went off with a very small whimper and not a hint of a bang.

That is MOST UNLIKE the other film you mention - 12 Angry Men

Just like my recommendation of In The Heat Of The Night - BOTH HAVE "edge of seat moments, nervous energy and brutal conflict."

I must have INTENTLY watched both of these films about once a year - so at least 15 times each - probably 20 times AND I'll watch them again.

To Kill A Mockingbird was a huge disappointment and I doubt I'll ever watch it again (Well maybe there's a very slight chance just to check if I "missed" something)

Having said that I'd definitely recommend another courtroom drama - which DEFINITELY has talking points for discussion afterwards :)

    INHERIT THE WIND (1960) >>> http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053946/
Starring Spencer Tracy, Fredric March, Gene Kelly, !!!!!! York - based on the real 1925 trial of a Tennessee biology teacher accused of teaching Darwin's theories of evolution

Summed up in one word - GRIPPING !

AND there's NO problem showing it to any child - CERTIFICATE U :)

I've not seen a discussion thread for Theatre/Concert only the codes thread, thought I'd answer the question as it was here.

Had an email from ShowFF with a questionnaire saying they were updating their processes for show tickets, one of the questions was closest area for tickets and Liverpool was on the list, so maybe they are going to be doing more outside of London and coming your way.

I wasn't having a go at you or anyone for posting and discussing. I asked because I'd never come across one so I went on a little search but after 6 pages and getting distracted along the way :p I thought I would ask. I know this thread can go walkies very quickly if there isn't a post made in a day or two. I'm surprised that a threa hasn't been set up because people will always have questions or want to share their experiences.

Thanks for the info, the nearest show for me up to now was Manchester. I got tickets but at the last minute due to the people coming with me driving me nuts, I pulled out. They turned up but as tickets were in my name, they couldn't provide I.D. and were turned away! The word Karma comes to mind. :D

SFF did offer me tickets to see Rod Stewart in Sheffield though. Sadly I couldn't go although I would have loved to.:(

Keep me in mind if anything in Liverpool does pop up please.;)

I wonder if it's a time thing with To Kill a Mockingbird? Meaning that what has happened in the world since the film was made has made us jaded?

Well the subject matter of Inherit the Wind is most certainly relevant to what is happening in some schools here and in the USA.

Two films previously mentioned in our suitable films for schools topic are on television today.

    Gremlins 2: The New Batch is on C5 at 2.40pm - 4.40pm

Whilst The Bucket List is on ITV1 at 10pm - 11.15pm
15 minute break for news then restarts at 11.30pm - 00.10am

I said to my neighbour whilst looking for the dvd of The Bucket List in Asda, that as soon as I buy it, I bet it gets shown on tele. Sure enough, the dvd arrived in the post a few days ago and ITV are showing it tonight! Typical  :wall:

Oooh I dunno about shows. I got away with it at a film preview but they knew me at the cinema.

Can't you get to a library before it closes this afternoon? That's what I have to do to print my tickets.

And it's cr*p too. Nowhere near as good as some foreign-language films. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Which one? Gremlins? You've got a thing against fluff balls haven't you :p First Tribbles now Mogwais. :(

Surely not The Bucket List?? How can a film with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman be parc? :D

I'm gonna save up my pennies and buy the dvd of a film that will remain nameless and send it to you as a belated birthday present. So there:rotfl: Either that or some fluff :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
