    Xmas Saver!
Hope DS had fun spending spending his vouchers, anything like madam, as soon as she had hers it was spent, Horrid Henry books, she was so plzed as one came with a woopie cushion..... thought remember them the 1st time around!

Thats a good idea re direct debits, and get them set back up while straight, like u say the priorites are house, council tax and gas etc.

What I would do is ring the credit card companies and say your be late with payment - that way save the hassle of phonecalls, I had to do that Dec with one of mine and they were really good and said as I'd notified them they wouldn't put on £12 charge - long shot but worth a try.

Sounds like your kicking the new yr off with avengance. xx
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

  • I will do a statement of affairs v soon i am awaiting a new mortgage figure i put it up to 25 yrs from 16 (i need the money now me thinks)!!!!:rotfl:.
I have absorbed all the info on here like a sponge!!!! This site really is a godsend!:T.

Good to hear you are enjoying the money saving experience and are happy! Just wanted to ask where did you start with the money saving? I am on here looking at the forums etc but no idea where to start or which challenges to take up - could you recommend any threads to start with?! I haven't got huge debts - I have a 2.6k credit card debt, £200 on a catalogue but a 105k interest only mortgage which is something I need to address....I don't think my house is worth much more than the 105k paid 4 years ago so I need to find a way to cut back and get money put aside for getting the mortgage down. I would be interested in any advice re where to start! And also how do you keep motivated??!!!

Victoriaplum you could look on the MFW (mortgage free wannabe's) forum for advice from those who are tackling their mortgages primarily.

Also look at the debt free diaries to give you ideas of how to get rid of debt.

Have a look, you will get lots of ideas
    LBM Feb 2010 £62,700 Total Debt Jan 11 [STRIKE]£49,403.84[/STRIKE] £47,530.32.
    (CC/LOAN = [STRIKE]36,378.98[/STRIKE] 35668.47. O/D = [STRIKE]1255.32[/STRIKE] 1212.35/[STRIKE]1999.78[/STRIKE] 1934.52, BUS = [STRIKE]9769.76[/STRIKE] 8714.98)
    Challenge = Debt at 31/01/12 = £25k. 2011 Payments = £1,944.19/£24,403.84

There is no point in negative thought, it takes up time and energy which could be used in a positive, happy way!

    victoriaplum!

You didn't ask for my opinion, but as BtD is currently otherwise occupied, you are going to get it! :rotfl: Under most circumstances (and you will need to check the fine print on all your agreements), it is generally more prudent to get rid of any debt before overpaying on your mortgage/changing from interest only as they acrue a higher level of interest. If that is the case, I would recommend paying off your debts (even though they aren't massive) before sorting out the mortgage as it shouldn't take you to long, and will then be easier for you to focus on your mortgage as it will only be one thing to pay back, rather than several.

Of course, that all depends on your circumstances, so check carefully, but as for motivation, most people end up becoming a bit addicted to the :money: way of life. You might, too! :T

As for challenges, if really depends on your personality. Loads of people swear by the 'Payment a Day' thread, where you pay something (however small) off your debts each day, but it just doesn't work for me, unfortunately. However, I've realised that I have a simply stupid number of books, DVD and spare toiletries, so I've joined challenges to not buy any more of them until I've used up what I already have. It's surprising what you have hanging round when you start looking.

    Best of luck! :T
