It is a !!!!!! but it's not the end of the world!! I have also taken part in the research for Cardiff and Birmingham Universitys.
    Will pop back soon Bye

  • Hi, thanks :) my OH told me i keep stop breathing in my sleep so going to organise a sleep apnea test tomorrow, this might be why my depression has come back and why i am so tired recently

  • I've been on lithium and various cocktails of AD's for 15 years .
The byword for BIPOLAR is the word accept.
Once you accept your condition and don't wage war with it with cocktails of potions ,things become a little clearer.
Many brilliant people lived with condition without knowing it,they were able to function and many could not as risen as high in their professions without it,so it can be a positive in life.
Bipolar is a umberella word ,as i've been told their is nearly 3000!! versions of this affliction so to find the right cocktail is'nt easy.
Always try to use the negative as a positive and a new life will come.
    good luck Storeton
  • Abby, you doctors letter sounds very much like psych speak for borderline personality disorder. I think it would be worth checking out whether this is a diagnosis he has given or is considering whether or not he gives it formally. Its not really a very helpful diagnosis as the stigma you get from professionals outweighs and negates the help in a lot of cases and that has certainly been the case with friends Ive known who have the diagnosis.
  • Is it easy to be wrongly diagnosed with a depressive illness, when maybe the patient could be bipolar?
  • I've also been told I'm too intelligent so don't need help, in the past.
Apparently being intelligent means that you can always fend for yourself and can always get yourself out of ruts and can cure yourself? As if!

I can totally relate to this. This is the position I am in and have been for a while now. I find it a constant struggle to get support and help from GP and other networks. I have been having mood swings for the past year and although I was in the pychiatric system, I've been palmed off onto less knowlegdable GPs and MIND. I'm even struggling getting help and support from the university I attend & I put it all down to the attitude that because I have a partner & am literate and intellegent, they feel I don't need the help and support.

I self-harmed last week and have strong feelings of doing it again, but yet I'm still waiting for a non urgent referral to the mental health department for an assesment appointment.

I have no cpn or other support person, the system is totally relying on my OH to care for me. This is taking it's toll on a 10 yr relationship, I'm so bewildered and frustrated with the system which I feel is letting my OH & I down.
  • Cant tell you how glad i am to have found this thread.

Have been bipolar for the best part of 18months, though only officialy diagnosed for the past few.

Am having a mixed episode right now. Cant afford my prescription due to moving and having to pay rent/deposit. Am in a lot of debt and being bipolar makes it feel unbearable sometimes. Took an OD few days before Xmas which saw me in the hospital overnight on observation. At least i got the psychaitric referral i'd been waiting for and a mood stabilizer prescription.

It drives my OH mad, he thinks i can just cure it naturally (he doesnt believe in medicating depression/mental health problems) I think that he thinks i'm weak, that i should just be able to be ok.

This is not a good morning.......... :-(

One thing I have learnt from my best friend (she is bipolar and has been for 15 yrs) is that you have to take your meds . Take my advice and buy the meds ,you need them and your partner needs you to take them whatever he says.Otherwise you end up doing silly things like taking ods and self harming.
