3G has become a new nightmare!

They have started charging for downgrading, so if you are in a contract whereby you must downgrade after 6 months then you have to pay £25 for each downgrade. Apparently this has been implemented since 14th of December.

This obviously ruined all my cashback fantasies

no matter what, remember '' refused to pay on principle'' = ccj . no messing, never mind the story ' he said/she said' etc. sorry

nonsense first you go to court and put your witness statement saying you DID cancel and your partners WS that she heard the conversation (if they did) and so whether 3 kept a record or not becomes less relevant.

ccj's dont happen without court involvement!

  • having a rotten time with 3 just now. In July my contract was due to finish. I was offered 3 months free plus an upgrade to a new phone. Now December, and still no phone. On at least two occasions, they claim, the phone has been returned to them by the courier company. I think they've attempted to send me a phone 4 (or possibly 5) times. The courier company has never left me a message to say they've attempted to deliver, so if I hadn't called 3 to find out about the phone I wouldn't know of any attempts to deliver. I've told 3 that I'm fed up and want to cancel the contract. They want to send the phone again, which I feel is pointless. They won't use another courier, and I'm supposed to find out from the courier the reason, if any, why they've been unable to deliver. They (3, that is) also say that I can't cancel the contract, and that it'll cost me £157 to buy myself out. I've suggested that since, for whatever reason, they've not supplied me with the new phone, which was part of the inducement to enter the new contract, I consider that the contract hasn't actually been fulfilled and that expecting me to pay to get out of it is not very honourable. I'm in a bit of a cleft stick. I feel that having a mobile is a near-necessity, partly due to my own health considerations and partly due to my also being a part of an informal care network. On the other hand, I can't afford to buy myself out and find a better provider. Being told that I'm stuck in a contract like this sticks in my craw, I'm afrad.
  • Having scoured these pages for just under 30 mins I plucked up the courage to phone 3customer services.

I have been paying £35 a month on an 18 month contract, with 500 mins and 100 texts (and free 'rent' games) which is due to expire in March. I bought the contract from phones4u as their offer 6 months at £4.95 seemed enticing, particularly as I also managed to barter £100 cashback on top of the offer! I received just over £310 in cashback overall, which was great, but the bills of £35 a month feel a bit steep as there as some great offers on the market currently.

I expressed this to the call centre operator, who said the current best offer for me would be a 'personalised plan', as I always run over the my text and minutes allowance. The offer is the equivalent to the Flext 35 on Tmobile, with a £180 allowance, but at a discounted rate of £26.25 per month. I was also offered a number of phone upgrades, but agreed to upgrade to the Nokia N73 (to be honest, I know nothing much about it, but it looks great). I ended up speaking to three different operators for nearly an hour, but they were not able to give me any better offers, saying this is the best price plan they could give (having explained a few others) and that other customers wouldn't get anything different, as this is a 'christmas only offer'. So I couldn't even keep my free rent games!

I have shopped around (thanks to a number of mystery shops!), and most deals seem to be in this price range, and on the Tmobile offers, I'm saving £3.75 a month. Which is why I'm questioning the decision I made!

I'm keen to read other peoples experiences :)

  • it may be the cheapest network
make sure you get the wright tarrif
they charge you £25 to downgrade
or options free but extend contract by 6 months
be carefull check the small print
  • I have been with Three for the past twelve months and my 2 contracts with them is going expire soon.
I contacted CS to ask what they would be willing to offer and the reply was poor to say the least as there is better offers elsewhere via the cashback route (i know some people have had trouble getting their cashback but i,ve been lucky up to now).
I therefore asked for my PAC,s and the very nice lady did,nt seem to care that i would be leaving Three.
My question to you (finally) is do you think i should contact them again to ask for another deal or should i call their bluff and wait to see if they contact me or then again just leave Three all together???

Thanks in advance for your help.

By the way MERRY XMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all...
  • 3 aren't a network in their own right, they actually 'piggyback' on O2 (due to switch to Orange in the near future).

This is why their signal is so poor - although they piggyback on O2 they only use a percentage of O2 base stations. Also, 3 customers may find at busy periods they are unable ot make calls. This is because at periods of high volume calls, O2 customers obviously get priority (basically 3 customers get lobbed off the base station)

Nope I'd stay away with a bargepole as well if I were you, there are some really competitive deals direct with other networks at the moment - O2 gives you 2600 mins 500 texts for £35. Also unlimited texts/landline calls with orange for the same price. And these companies all have something unknown to three customers - good customer service!
    Don't worry:p ;) :rotfl: :D Be happy

You're totally correct, so many have said the same, hope they will learn.

Thanks for the reply....i'd given up hope on anyone giving me a bit of advice...

The points you make about poor signal and their abysmal customer services based abroad is correct and i totally agree...but the reason i went with them was because they were the cheapest at the time.

I have been looking elsewhere for a deal with another network and i will be leaving them!
