If anyones considering 3 - get a 30 day rolling sim only contract and stuff the sim in an old phone - will cost you £30-£60 dependent on remembering to cancel the contract on time (you can get £48 cashback - so it would cost a max of £12) - try out the service, see how it goes and see if you like it and it works for you.
After that you can just walk away or you can take out a full on deal with phone etc.0 -
3 are turning off the 2G signal across the UK in areas where they "think" offer good 3G coverage. I could have been standing in the middle of Plymouth city centre and not get a 3 signal!
I have been reading up on 4G and hopefully, lower frequencies (700mhz) will penetrate buildings, rural and build up areas better.
How about T-Mobile or Orange? I'm no fan of T-Mobile's constant mistakes but at least you are guaranteed coverage in 99% of places. They are now sharing 2G and 3G networks.0 -

I have to keep an orange phone for incoming calls to ensure they don't get dropped. In fact I also need the orange phone to make sure the outgoing calls don't get dropped which is on assuming i can get a line.
My phone worked better on desert islands in Thailand than it does in London. Surely London should have the best service?
I have had 4 Nec 606e phones, they keep replacing them with broken phones, and never logged my insurance claim when i lost one, Causing me no end of trouble as I apparently hadn't reported in within 24 hours. In the end I Complained so much that I had an emergency phone was sent out and another one arrived a week later, so now I have two !!!! phones.
I would not recomend 3G to anyone who would like to keep their sanity, they are truely frustraiting.
You cannot even complain to customer services as the calls drop and they now refuse to call you back!Life is what you make of it but most of it's just fake0 -
To answer your question, yes they are allowed to do that. you signed a contract, you got a free/heavily discounted phone. You moved house and you chose where you moved to. You can't hold Three accountable for that. Three provide a cooling off period for new contracts so the customers can cancel in therist week or two if the phone doesnt have signal where they live/work. but if you take it upon yourself to move house halfway through your contract, its not really fair to hold Three accountable.Life is what you make of it but most of it's just fake0

Handset: iPhone 4 (previously nokia e71)
Edinburgh and Lothians
Most commonly used location:
East Lothian
Ease and reliability and connection:
Never had any problems with 3. Internet is very fast - sometimes I switch to 3G instead of my wifi when it is slow. Only two occasions in different places have I been unable to get signal in the three years I have been with 3.
Any other problems:
3's Customer Service Advisors are not terribly good at speaking english but any time I have had to deal with them, I have got there in the end. They do tend to hassle me probably on average of once every two months via phonecall or text to buy more of their products like mobile internet or refering a friend deals.
Overall service and rating (out of 10):
9/10
I feel lucky as by the look of things, the majority of people are unhappy with the 3 network. My brother and my mother have since joined 3 and have had an as good experience as me.0 -
Ive just gone back to '3' as i moved house and my o2 signal was non-existant. Thank God my contract was up. Being disabled i need to have a mobile phone with me at all times, so i looked around and found the One plan on '3' £25 for all i want.
Handset :Iphone 4
Used In: Birmingham
Signal strength: Full everywhere fast 3g speeds too.
Bad points: Customer services, being partially deaf you need to speak clearly... however it never happens so i keep ringing 333 till i get through to '3' scotland.
Never gone over my bill and trust me i have battered my internet on it...
Its a new ball game now with '3' i had them when they first came out.. first with an NEC303, then a motorola a920 upgraded to an A925, but it was terrible yes cheap, but useless for a phone.
NOW: perfect, in fact my OH is trying to buy out their o2 contract so they can go to three.. Im due an upgrade soon as well so i may have the galaxy s2 :T:T:T** I cant get off my soapbox as its not wheelchair accessible**0 -

Three don't really do retention anymore tbh. My best mate had a contracts with them since they started. Said he was leaving a month ago and the best they offered him was what was on the website.0
