Well done Katie - I hope you're ok and the next few weeks are better for you.
These are the nails on my right hand (assuming the link works):

The nails on my left hand aren't quite as long - I suspect this is because I'm right-handed so my left hand is usually doing nothing and is therefore free to be chewed on!:www: Saving for a deposit - Target £30k by 24/03/14 (30th Birthday!) :www:

Hello everyone! Just found this thread and wondered if I could join you on your mission not to chew!
I've been a nail-biter ever since I can remember....probs since I grew teeth! My dad used to be a nail-biter so I think I have picked up the habit from him.
The annoying thing is I dont even really know when I'm biting my nails, my boyfriend always says he never sees me actually doing it, but well obviously I must!! I think I am doing it when I'm worried/stressed. I have consciously tried to stop before but always cave in, and because my nails dont seem to grow very fast then once I've bitten off a little bit then I'm right back to square one!
Am determined to do something about it once and for all now, it never used to bother me before but as I've gotten older it does embarass me how unsightly it looks and I have resorted to using fake nails from the chemists for nights out etc. I like the look of these, and they will do for now, but as Im also in the process of trying to get debt-free then I am spending a small fortune on fake nails - what would Martin say!!! :rotfl:

I found it helped wearing dark nail varnish - cos I didn't want to ruin it!
Also nail envy is great) oh also putting hand cream on after washing and cuticle balm is great too
defo worked for me and in the summer my nails were perfect, since then they have snapped but I'm determined to get them long again!)
If I can do it anyone can trust me!0 -
Everyone's welcome, all chewees and wookies, even closet PMs
This is what the Bloke did for me...
He's good, isn't he?
I think it is about six months-ish now since I stopped - TBH, for some reason, it was easier this time than any of the others - perhaps it was because I had decided in my own mind that I wanted healthy nails and I had only focused upon my hands being manky previously. I also went back to meditation classes soon after, so maybe that helped me in some way too.
I don't know. But I like it.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Very nice! If he ever needs some extra income ... :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0

Welcome Coco - but please please please dont put the horrible false nails on from the dhemist - they actually damage your nails (i learnt the hard way!)
ive managed to stop biting mine, i was like you, wasnt aware when i was biting, finally figured it was when i was relaxed, normally watching tv and would munch without realising. I brought some "nasty nail" biting stuff from boots - its called "stop and grow" http://www.boots.com/en/Stop-Grow-Stop-Biting_884/ and constantly used it. I brought an extra one to keep in the car just in case i forgot to put some on.
When they hit the edge of my finger i treated myself to a "over lay gel on natural nail" it has a french manicure look to it --> http://www.twitpic.com/jvath but it means i cant bite them!
Hope this helps

I'm doing well. No chewing for me!!! :O)
My thumbs are nearly there but my first fingers are still taking ages to grow but hopefully they will catch up with the others. I am very impressed with my lack of chewing
Everyone is doing good too I hope!!!DFW Nerd #11520 -
it is called a "gel overlay on natural nail" took about an hour to do. Shes french polished them and apprently it will be VERY DIFFICULT for me to scratch the polish off or even bite my nails. they come in all different colours but i chose french manicure. Last for 3 weeks then needs in fills.
This is a pic of my nails 22 days ago:

Wow well done they look great :j
mine have got white bits on the ends too. You can still tell I was a 'biter', coz my middle and index nails are still not quite level. I use to bit the edges right up to the cuticle.
Anyone know where I can get a pen that does the white bit on a french manicure, but easier?
Saw some Sally Hansen stuff in Home Bargains last time I was there for 99p, so going to get next time I'm in.0
