Wedding venue problems - want to cancel.

£2500 - seems to be the standard deposit. Can't believe we were stupid enough to get talked into signing up on the day. This could be a very expensive way to learn never to be pressured into a sale! What happens to these threads when they reach the end of a story, do they disappear? How do you stay in contact?
Viole you can have all the support you need from us, this thread can run for as long as people post on it, or maybe start your own thread about how far in the battle you are and we can join you there?:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
Noooo Viole - not you as well:eek: Obviously, we will do what we can to help you get your money back like Beks.0

Viole - PM me your email address if you want copies of the accounts filed at Companies House.0

A couple of weeks before the election is a good time to go to the press as most people are fed up of the whole thing by then and just want some different news.I am sure they would snap up thsi storyFantastic news Beks!!! I'm so pleased for you, well done on seeing it through, I just hope it's not put you off the wedding you want!
I think you should wait till after the election and see if you can get any of the national papers to pick it up as wedding season will be coming up :rotfl:
Well contact them now as they sometimes have a lead time xgarth;)0 -

Viole, you weren't stupid, you were taken in by the sales pitch, just like we were. Its what they do and then they just don't care. Did you deal with him or her??? Are you going through courts (I can't believe you have kept so quiet about your issues, I would be fuming reading this thread if I was in your postition with the same venue)?
I think you should do as frannyann suggests and start yourself a new thread and we can all join you there to give you support. You are most welcome to keep posting here but obviously at some point the venue will be named and I wouldnt want to jeopardise your case.
Keep strong, it seems to be that the owner is so inept he doesn't bother to respond to court papers giving an increased chance of winning (although not guarenteed obviously).
You are not alone here and I (and I'm sure everyone who has been so much help to me) will help you every little bit we can.
It just makes me so angry that he gets away with this. :mad:0 -
Congratulations Beks!! You stuck with it and it has been well worth it!! He deserves everything he gets! If the business folds it can be sold and the other people should hopefully get their money back! He should never be allowed to do this to anyone again! Organizing a wedding is strenuous enough with out all of that on top of it!
You are an inspiration to everyone with your determination and strength to fight it!
Well done you deserve it!

Finally, after over 6 months of fighting this, the bailiffs have finally got our money back!!!!! :j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j:j
Soooooooo happy!!! We don't have the money ourselves but the bailiffs got ALL £5150 of it in cash!!!!!
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D Because they got such a large amount of cash off him, the bailiffs had to bank the money with the courts and they will .
:T:T:T:T:T:T
Well done beks.
Not posted on your thread before, but followed it with horror!
Can't wait for you to name & shame them. I've seen their reviews & am horrified they are still getting away with it.
Perhaps you'd like to submit an article to a wedding magazine too, to further the negative publicity on this awful place. I'm sure some would be interested in your story.0 -
Congratulations,
:j I'm glad you got your money back in the end. I can't believe this guy gets away with it.
Viole I hope you get your money back too.:kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea

Glad your DD is on the mend too!
Fab news! really chuffed for you!! and dont worry £5000 for a wedding budget is easily achieveable (ours is costing £4800 and that includes honeymoon lol)0 -
OMG!!!! :eek::eek::eek:
I think I knew it was but really hoped it wasn't. I wont ask too much more on here because obviously the name will be published at some stage but PM me if you want help. Are you at the court stage yet? Is the eegit responding to you? Keep strong viole, it was worth it for us in the end. Please let me know if you want help (I am no whizz but "been there, done that" does help a bit and I can given moral support). As can everyone on here!! Now I don't want him to fold, we need to get your money back first... how much does he have?
I was just about to party with Violetta but now, I feel I can't!
Am having quite a bizarre evening on here tonight.
Oh and I still cant edit the title, tried the go advance and it edits it in the little box above but not the whole thread title.
Sorry Beks, didn't mean to spoil your celebration. Thanks to Frannyann, Shellsuit, Bluemeanie, Horace, JCSI and Matine for support (apologies to anyone I have missed) If you want to hear the sorry tale go and get a cuppa and prepare for a long read! DD her OH and I (MOTB) went to venue in Jan. Subjected to his sales talk and discounts for signing on day and fell for it. (It is a pretty place). Also said that dep. would be refunded if we changed our minds, subject to date being resold. Got home, realised that we had not got what we had set out for and cancelled within 3 days. Rang and wrote to ask if we could have money back straight away and told no. Took advice and told that under unfair terms and conditions in consumer sales act, tradesman only entitled to keep such costs as he can prove he has incurred as result of cancellation. Wrote again, month later get reply saying he will refund if date is resold if I signed agreement. Took advice again, told not to sign but to pursue original tack. Heard nothing. Month later, came to our attention that a prospective bride had been told date was taken. Occurred to me that venue may still have our names on date. More advice (beware of advice!) told to sign and return venue's agreement. Heard nothing then , lo and behold, get to hear of another bride whose been told date is taken. DD, OH and I decide we'll save venue trouble of posting refund, we'll go and pick it up. Get to venue and see her. When we say we hear date's gone, without looking at a calendar, she says it's still available. We asked why this prospective customer had been told otherwise and she said it was a mistake. We said we knew of at least one other "mistake". We wondered why she knew straight away when we asked that the date was available but appeared to be making mistakes when other people asked? We also wondered how many other mistakes have been made all the while making it less and less likely that date will be rebooked. Despondent now because can't give DD money I had saved for her wedding!0
