Wedding venue problems - want to cancel.

I REALLY agree that someone should go and waste that money grabbing mans time. Hit him where it hurts lol.
I genuinely am tempted - I cannot stand gimps like him0 -
I second the part about the AA rosettes and recommended food guides, these places pride themselves on the whole package, not just the quality of the food or the bedrooms. The management and customer service aspect is a huge pull for people. I wouldn't send a client to a place with brilliant food but a poor customer arm of the business.
There is a rather posh place in Sheffield and I was there as a customer for my birthday, there was hair in my starter, the waitress was like "right. And? Do you want another?" No apology or anything. We waited a bit 'cos we thought they might give us a bottle of wine on the house or the chef might come across and make a fuss etc... Nothing happened. At this point I mentioned we had no wine, the wine took 25 mins to come (after I asked for it) it was slammed on the table. My poor OH saw how distraught I was (I wasn't in work mode, I was in punter mode cos I was the birthday girl so I didn't give quite the right response as I was so shocked, shame on me) We got up and just walked out and went to a place in town. (I don't mind naming and shaming, this was Artisan in Sheffield, I think I have managed to put off at least £600's worth of business to date.)
I think the point I'm trying to make is that there is more to a business than just the stars and without all the good supporting stuff an house of cards can soon start to crumble.I run an event management company, I put on events, I go to events, if I don't know anything about events - its not worth knowing!:j:j:jNegotiate, Negotiate, and Negotiate again.:j:j:j0 -
I think when the online claim has gone off, then you should consider contacting the local newspaper and push for a front-page story....with any luck, especially with the "ex-serviceman's compensation used for deposit that ***** man won't give back" line, it will get picked up by a national paper0

I don't know where I have been for the last month but I have seemed to have missed this thread. Just caught up and WOW you must have the patience of a saint. I would have completely lost it by now. Keep it up girl and keep us updated.
I would tell everyone who will listen, WHEN this is resolved and you have YOUR money back. People like this shouldn't be allowed to run a business let alone provide for someones wedding which is one of the biggest days of a persons life.... IMO.
Keep it up, chin up, head up and get through this, and I bet you will have a fab wedding next year :T

Received this email today
I am in receipt of your letter dated Monday 21st September and subsequently Friday 2nd October. (does not mention the one on Thursday 10th September that we handed to him)
I had understood from our last meeting that you wished to cancel the arrangements held here on your behalf and was awaiting your written confirmation of this. (we handed it to him at the same time as our 'meeting')
Our agreement to provide our facilities and services on the day remain so we regret that your decision to cancel the arrangements. We understand from your letter that the reason for cancellation was as a result of not having received your receipt of booking and confirmation details (and no response after 8 weeks of emails and phone calls), which, according to our records, were mailed to you the day after I met you and accepted your booking. (He didnt have our address so I don't see how he can have done this). Furthermore, I have no record of any e-mails, either in my spam folder (as they can get lost here sometimes) or in the main mailbox (I have the emails printed out). Either way at our meeting you had already decided to cancel your wedding. We receive dozens of e-mails each day and this year hosted over 100 weddings very succesfully (not if you check out trip advisor) so your case in unusual and we take very seriously. Please understand when you arrived unannounced at the hotel I was unaware and therefore unprepared for the meeting. I had no knowledge of your "concerns" until the meeting. (which is again surprising as we met with the wedding co-ordinator a few days earlier and she said she had no information from us)
When we accepted the booking it was on the basis of a substantial package discount and as such was non-refundable. However, under the circumstances and without prejudice, we will refund your payment in full, subject to the day being re-sold on no less favourable terms. We cannot guarantee that the day will be re-sold but it is likely that it will be (ummm, not likely if I have my way as he will be slated everywhere).
On a personal note, while I understand the contents of your letter, my view is that we can still provide you with a fantastic day and our original agreement needn't be "thrown away". I hope you can therefore reconsider your position on this matter (no way, he is a liar and a nasty piece of work who has done nothing up to the moment where I have mentioned court and told him we will be sueing for emotional distress!!)
Right, the problem now is he has responded and agreed to a refund but only when he has resold the date, obviously that might not happen and we cannot afford to wait that long. Also, we will only have his word that the date hasnt been resold. If he doesnt then we lose our money. He is still denying there is a problem and still denying that he has made a mistake. I am glad we have heard from him at last (after 3 weeks of legal letters which he was supposed to reply to in 7 days. I am sure he is doing this to get out of court again and give him more time and making it seem like he is offering to help - which I dont see this as.
It was almost easier when we didnt hear from him, now he has given a counter argument but it all lies and it may well come to our word against his.
Anyone got any ideas before we get more legal advice???!!!0 -
I'd wrote back to him and point out all the things you dispute.
Give him times and dates of phone calls/meetings/letters sent etc and give him printed copies of the emails sent.
Cheeky schwat! Don't know how he has the nerve to bare faced lie! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Oh and Beks, print off this thread too and show him a copy.
He can't do nothing about it as you haven't named him or the company.
Tell him to fig off waiting for someone else to book that date, you don't trust him so tell him this.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Beks, this is a delaying tactic, in which he hopes you will just accept that. You want your money back in full, so continue with the small claims court. Keep a copy of this letter, and write down your objections as you have here on a separate page and be prepared to sent that in with your supporting statements for the court. This is no more than a smoke screen from him to keep your money.:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0

hope you've printed this out. As someone else has already said, its just a delaying tactic. Now he has responded you can go through the court proceedures and get the ball rolling that end. I wouldn't trust this man as far as you can throw him.I run an event management company, I put on events, I go to events, if I don't know anything about events - its not worth knowing!:j:j:jNegotiate, Negotiate, and Negotiate again.:j:j:j0

BTW this bit of the email worries me
' However, under the circumstances and without prejudice, we will refund your payment in full, subject to the day being re-sold on no less favourable terms. We cannot guarantee that the day will be re-sold but it is likely that it will be'
By agreeing to this, he would be making no admisssion of guilt therefore is trying to cover his a r s e if it goes to court.
My advice?... Don't answer and continue with court proceeding, he has had plenty of chances.:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0
