    Hi

Am really interested in getting one of these, but does anyone know if I can connect to a portable tv and add the Freeview aerial to it? I dont have a rooftop aerial to connect to upstairs. I am in a Freeview area.

I went into my local Argos on Saturday and was told that the special offers don't start until today and so stores should begin to get them in stock now..

Bought one in Argos in Lisburn Sprucefield NI, couldn't wait to get it home.

Tuned in perfectly and set itself up with a good signal. Remote was really unresponsive but I could have lived with that.

Anyways the thing started crashing and I restarted it about 5 times, still kept crashing.

Took it back, customer services said they had seen a lot of them coming back, really disappointed as the features were great but I didn't want to take a chance on another.

Bought a Samsung DVD recorder instead for £99, and its working great.
That's exactly what both of my ones did. I half wonder if they were previous customer returns that they had plugged in, seen they worked (for 5 minutes at least) and then just re-sold. Very disappointed it didn't work as it's easily the best price for a product of this type. Might save up a bit longer for the Humax one which is around £200.

Hee hee....I sense the start of a 'problems' thread here!

But you guys have got some way to go to catch up with the 'problems' thread on the Technosonic 101 PVR. Over 1000 postings and 130,000 views since December!

Re the boxes that have sellotape on them twice, i think this was just to update the software to the latest edition, as there is a yellow flyer in the box stating what the new features were.

I think all PVR's from all manufacturers are in their infancy and therefore are prone to problems.

Its a real pity I got a turkey, those who are lucky with these boxes are more than delighted with them.
  • Mine seems to crash, i have to turn it off at the wall. The first time i did this it also wiped the hard drive! It hasn't wiped it the last few times though.

Its ok as a first PVR, but it limited, a little patchy even though its been updated a few times. I guess were still in the PVR infancy, so better boxes will come soon. At £100 mark, its prob better to buy a DVD recorder, so if you have a skybox and freeview, you can record off both (only one at a time), oh! and you cant pause live TV with it.

After playing with mine, I always seem to switch back to the sky box more, as it has better channel, even without subscription, and as you cant connect PVR to the sky box (no input) you should really hold out for a PVR which allows an external input, if there is such a thing''
  • there used to be a dvr with external input, it was called Tivo. Perhapse it is time for a tivo revival?

YAY! Tivo - I have one but also bought one of these Thomson jobbies because the Tivo only has one tuner. Still can't beat the old Tivo though for ease of use (hacked box with Tivoweb and 200GB disk).
