I generally just stick an extra spoon of mayo on it in the morning.
  • Do you add oil when cooking the pasta, to stop it sticking together. I'm sure if you add just a bit of oil when cooking and leave it until cold, it should be fine. Works for me anyway, I just use cold leftover pasta(I always use a drop of oil), for salads in hubbys lunchbox, and he's never complained.

I mix the mayo 50:50 with fromage frais or natural yoghurt, I also rinse the pasta in cold water as soon as it's cooked. Looks ok when you give it a bit of a stir the next day.

Thats a good idea. Will half the fat content.

Yes will second that we always use half mayo and half natural yogurt, kids love tuna pasta mayonaise and pasta salad, it halves the fat and cheaper.

Cool the pasta after cooking by running under plenty of cold water and then toss in the dressings while the pasta is drained but still quite wet and this should solve the problem of 'pasta brick' on day two. LOL

    Hi all :)

I know there are loads of 'lunch' threads on here and I've had a look through quite a few this morning but I wondered if any of you could give me some advice or give me a link.

I've been trying to get into the taking lunch to work instead of buying routine and after 3 weeks am sick and tired of bread. Thought I might give cold pasta a go but as my 5yr old DS will have the same in his packed lunch it's got to be good or he won't eat it! I love mustard but he won't eat that, I'm worried it'll be too dry iykwim. Anyone got an ideas or pointers how to make something with pasta, I don't mind any sort of meat or fish, just something that will taste good cold and not be too dry.

    Thanks :D

Check out the local supermarket chilled pasta/salad area for inspiration.

There's one I've seen: cheese & pasta salad. That looks nice. Just cold pasta/sauce mixed with grated cheese.

You can make loads of cold pasta salads. e.g. pasta/walnut/sultanas.

I take pasta with either tuna or chicken, add salad and either coleslaw or salad cream.

I also take cooked rice with meat and peppers etc. Try and get lots of colours in there, and your son will probably eat it because it looks so good
