I hope not, but now I am worrying that in a rush, I ticked the wrong box on the back of the form.
Am worried that even though I self disclose, they will think I am suspect and will fine/imprison me.
Am willing to pay all non payments though.
VERY WORRIED
I can go to the CAB, but they will only make an appointment, and I will have to wait a week or so, I think, and I want to avoid spending days stewing.
Trust me, the PPA do not prosecute in cases such as this. You don't need to ring them, if they have any concerns they will contact you. Even if they do contact you (which is unlikely after all this time), they will give you the chance to repay anything that you owe.
Boots are very strict on this (my first job was there!), but they do not enforce the law and have no right to say what may happen to you. I agree with BeenieCat, just ignore them.Gone ... or have I?0 -
is my letter ok or does it dig a hole for myself, just trying to set things straight
also, will they check up on me, now I have phoned (recorded calls to fraud office)
thanks0 -
Don't send the letter, get an appointment with the CAB or CPN.0

i've discovered another error since, though, see below
Alwaysonthego
I know I wont go to prison over my other threads I posted on this board, but what is worrying me is the thing the pharmacist in boots the chemist said today. She definitely said, large fine, or prison. This is the reason why I am posting this thread.
She is pharmacist, an expert in medication. You can trust her expertise on drugs, but not on benefits advice, the judicial system, etc. You would not listen to her advice on fixing your car or washing machine, other areas out of her expertise.
The fact you are so worried about it proves you have nothing to hide and are just a natural worrier, I am too. Try to concentrate on all the things in life worth worrying about, there are plenty to keep us all occupied

That's just it, I want to avoid waiting and worrying.alwaysonthego wrote: »Don't send the letter, get an appointment with the CAB or CPN.0 -
how does this letter sound
Here is a copy of the letter I propose to send, please advise if I have anything to worry about.
Dear Sirs
Medicine management department.Self Disclosure of error in claiming free prescriptions from Feb 2006 to Dec 2006
I wrote to you in Nov/Dec 2006 declaring some erroneously claimed for free prescriptions.
With the letter, I also included supporting letters from my GP and my therapist.
I sent it to this address, in December 2006.
The compliance Unit
NHS Counter Fraud and security Management service

I never received a reply back.
Another error has come to light, on this letter, when, today I found a letter from the income support people I thought I had thrown out..
In the last line of the third paragraph of my letter to the counter fraud unit, I advised you that I should have been paying for my prescriptions from may 2006 when in actual fact it should have been February 2006.
I of course will be willing to pay the charges involved, and would like you to let me know what the amount will be..
I suffer psychologically and I am prone to anxiety and panic, plus depression and I get confused and am prone to making many errors, especially with paperwork.
I realise it is my responsibility to submit correct claims, but regret that due to the confusion and my mental state, I first of all made the error of wrongly claiming free prescriptions from Feb 2006, and I then made the error of thinking that I should have been paying since may 2006.
Since late 2006 I have paid for all my prescriptions.
I am declaring the corrections to you now, and bitterly regret that it is so late. I thought I had thrown out the income support letter in 2006, because I could not find it back then. It is a genuine error
I make frequent errors and when I spoke to the benefits office in 2006 I misunderstood them, as I am nervous of speaking to people on the phone, and due to anxeity and panic,
Although I am willing to pay back any charges I should have paid for then, or any subsequent mistakes, i.e. automatically ticking the claim box on the back, by mistake when the chemist is busy, and I am in a panic.
Please reassure me I will not be in more trouble.
Am really sorry to be a nuiscance and I appreciate all the help on this post so far.
Am also worried they will check now they have my recorded phonecalls of today.0 -
Do not send a letter. Talk to the CAB. You will get to see somebody at the CAB long before you will get a reply (if at all) from that letter.
This is not being rude in any way to you, but they will not care about one persons mistake. They have thousands of people committing large scale fraud who need to be investigated. They use their time to punish those who go out of their way to STEAL from the system. If you want my opinion, if I were you, I would go and chat to the CAB/someone you can trust with regard to your mental condition. You need someone you trust to reassure you.
It is the same with anything, if you walk out of a shop without paying and did not know, you have not stolen anything. I actually did this two weeks ago, I walked out of boots with a pair of baby socks, completely oblivious to the fact I had not paid. There were two security guards there, and no alarms went off. I got to my car, got my keys out of my bag and spotted these socks in my hand. I got into a panic ''oh no, oh dear, what can I do''...my partner calmed me down...I had not stolen anything, I just went straight back in and explained, then went to the till and paid for my socks, then left again. Technically, I ''stole'' from Boots, but nobody would send me to prison for it. I had to walk out in broad daylight with the goods too, not just tick the wrong box on a form. Nobody actually cared, they gave me the same face of ''why have you even mentioned that little mistake?'' that your letter will get.0 -
The original letter which included suport letters from my GP and my therapist was wrong. Wont that be classed as fraudulent.
What about the recorded calls.
Sorry to sound a pain, I just dont want this to blow up in my face later.0 -

They do not have time to care when they are trying to stop criminals. You had some free prescriptions in 2006 which they saw evidence of. They have not even asked you for the money back, probably because 1. nobody shifty would bother telling them about it and 2. because your condition by its very nature will make you prone to confusion. You will not be penalised by the fact that you have a medical difficulty that makes it harder for you to organise these sorts of things. Anyone could have made that mistake, I certainly could do! The fact you have difficulties which make it so much more likely just prove the point.
I treat you and your prescriptions the same as my situation with my socks. You do not think I should go to prison/be fined for it, do you? (Don't say yes now, lol).0 -
Hello Bundance
As some of the other posters have said contact the CAB. You can ring them and speak on the phone, they will be able to reassure you, that there is nothing to worry about. If you explain your situation and your circumstances, they will contact people for you. If you would rather speak face to face then ring to find out opening times and go along with all your paperwork, and you will be able to see an adviser in a walk-in session.
They will not judge you, just help. I work with them on a voluntery basis, so I know they are very good.
Dont worry you will not be prosicuted.Be-littling somebody only make's you look a bully.Any comments I make on here are my opinions, having worked in the lettings industry, and through life.0
