  • As I've already said, it's about perception and if the buyers feels ripped off then DSRs, feedback etc will reflect that.

I did tell them that I required the items for a charity event and this was even ignored...
    And?

Was the seller also a charity, or were they someone trying to make some money?

We don't give a toss why people buy something from us, we just care that they give us their money in exchange for our goods.
Selling childrens' toys we get a lot of these guilt trips, "can I have this £10 item for £2.50 please, it's my pocket money". No, obviously not- we'll just sell it to someone who can pay what it's worth.

its a shame that so many people are money hungry on ebay nowadays

Ive always been fair to my buyers and reduced the postage to actual costs and a little extra for packaging etc...

People will end up not using ebay in the end..
as it will be full of scammers trying to get money for nothing...

No, they won't. They just get canny.

I've just had someone bid on a book I'm selling and then send me a message asking why postage cost so high, cost is listed as £2.75 for 1st class recorded, actual cost is £2.37 for 1st class recorded packet post and its a A4 book so will need a larger than normal envelope and I did add ...

.. unless the winning bidder wants me to fold this A4 book in half so I can shove it in a smaller envelope.

I won and paid for a pair of boots last Tuesday. Seller quoted £8.50 for postage. I think this is high (having posted a pair of boots of a similar size, by 1st class standard as stated by the seller, I know it costs around £4-5) but I bid anyway and got a bargain overall. However, it's now been over a week and no sign of the boots. I emailed the seller yesterday to politely ask where they were, and got the reply that they still hadn't been sent ('I went away for the Bank Holiday weekend'... well I paid the Tues before that and it's now Thurs, so what's that got to do with it?!) AND she'd 'just noticed' some damage?! Convenient. I've asked for a partial refund (£5) as I've waited so long and now the boots are damaged. No reply from seller as yet.

Just to update this, might be helpful for the OP...

The seller has refunded me the entire postage cost (£8.50) and will be posting first class Monday.

Although I will have waited over 2 weeks for my item and they're now damaged which the auction did not state, I'm really happy with the outcome and will be leaving positive feedback. Just goes to show many sellers are willing to compromise with buyers and sending a message is the first step! :)
  • Many times people don't take into account the paper from printing labels or Paypal receipts, address labels, computer ink, sticky tape, travel costs to the post office, the amount of time it takes me to queue in the post office, the time I wait and keep checking for payments to come through for people to pay me... it all adds up! Plus the packing bags don’t get to me free, I order them from eBay and have to pay P&P for them!

Excessive P&P threads are the new "who leaves feedback first" threads.

Why does it matter what any of us think, whether we are moneysavers, buyers. sellers, obeservers.

It comes down to the OP and her seller. The OP is not happy, so it's up to her what to do - ask for a refund, neg, neutral, no feedback, legal action whatever.

One thing is clear - while these continue, there will be plenty more reason for ebay to roll out mandatory Free P&P in more categories.
<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->
  • You knew the p&p charges before you bought, get over it.
No, i dont sell on ebay.
When I buy, I look at p&p and decide whether I want to pay that amount or not. I then work out what i'd pay for the item and equate in any p&p charges.
I would only complain/leave neg if they advertised a service but didnt deliver (royal mail first class but sent it second class as an example).

I'm sure this thread is going around in circles
  • Not so much circles, different people with the same opinion.
