LOL.
OP, I'm sure your friend didn't mean any harm but I do feel your pain. When we were expecting DS2 (before we knew he was a he) we had picked out a certain girl's name, and then we discovered that my step-daughter's mother had had another child, and named her the name that we had picked out. Firstly - I was horrified that we had the same taste in names (lol!) and secondly - since we didn't find out until after we had named baby, my step-daughter could've ended up with two sisters with the same name! (Long story, but we had no contact at that time) Thankfully, he was a he.They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0 -
Lexi, Lettuce, whats the difference?!
Does it work with the surname?
Does she copy you in other ways?
Suggest you play your cards close to your chest in the future. Probably no way you can persuade her to change the name if her minds made up.Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.
If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

Naming babies can definitely be a contentious issue! And it is possible to upset people without meaning to.
When my 3rd son was born we called him Joel. My cousin, had recently traced her half brother but he refused to have any contact with her. She was very upset by this as her father, who she adored until he left when she was 9, would not have any contact with her either.
Anyway, she had not told me his name, and it turned out that he is called Joel too. My cousin was really offended but by the time she told us my Joel was 9 months old and it was too late to change his name.
Try not to think to badly of your friend. I can also see her point about not having enough time to read a baby name book. When you already have one child to look after you don't have much time at all.

My sister stole my 'girl's name' years before I got round to having a baby of my own, it's a lovely name, I can't blame her for stealing it - and it's not chavvy at all - but there's no way I could have called my DD the same name. Didn't stop me being a bit peeved when she nicked it though. Moral of the story - don't tell anyone your realy favourite baby names.;) Make up a name that you don't like and tell her that, see if she picks it!
So when we had my DD she didn't have a name till the next day. Now, however, I love the second name and my DD really suits it.:D
For anyone wanting to call their cats or kids Leticia (like a name from an Enid Blyton book) - this is how it is spelled, it's not lettice, this way you can avoid a lifetime of explaining no, it's leticia, reeeeeally!! while other people roll round the floor!Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Is she calling her Lexi, or Alexis? Either way, Lexi isn't exactly a traditional cat's name like Tiddles or Ginger... LOL.
Are you over reacting? Yes definately. Quite frankly, I couldn't tell you what my friends' many cats are even named, and definately wouldn't give them consideration when naming my baby. It's not as if my parents are going to turn around say "Oh did you name it after X's cat who died?"..... Now if it was someone elses baby's name already who was close to us then that would be different.
Saying all this it's reminded me that friend of mine had a Labrador with the same name as my now DH (it's a very human name) and we had all of the "X SIT!" cross over jokes when at her house

Good job she's not MY friend!
Think of the teasing poor little SOOTY would get on his first day at school.

What the hell happened here! Just had a flick through, will have to read again when I can actually keep my eyes open! Glad you've all had a good laugh anyway

I know it's no big drama, but you know when something just builds up to be something quite big in your head... Or maybe that's just me. I just wanted a sane persons opinion.
My cat was called Lexi. Hence the username! No Lettuces or Radishes I'm afraid.
She text me something about it earlier on, which got me thinking about it again, which made me post. I did reply to her saying something along the lines of 'To be honest it just reminds me of my dead cat'.
Suppose I'll leave it at that, just a bit strange if you ask me, all our other friends think the same. I even suggested buying her a baby names book so she could look at other names and think up some herself instead of just choosing the first one she hears from somebody else, but apparently she hasn't got time to read it
Sorry to be a drama queen
Sorry; it was funny....Lexi is a nice name....you should be proud.
Tiddles, might not have been such a good idea. :rotfl:0 -
Lexi is a lovely name, maybe your best mate was also a fan of Monarch of the glen! Sorry to say, but your puss is not the only lexi in the world and as you are friends then it is reasonable to assume that you have similar likes adn experiences.0

When I was exppecting ds 2 I had a girls and a boys name picked (before we knew he was a he!!) and then obviously we didn't need the girls name, but i still liked it and thought 'if we ever have a girl i'll use it'.........3 months later my best friend had a girl and they couldn't think of any other names other than 'my' girls name, so thats what she's called and I don't mind a single bit as I love them all to bits and the name really suits her-and hey i may never have a girl anyway!!!
Also on the subject of funny naming of children, I once workd with a girl who had a sister. Before her and her sister were born, their dad had 2 daughters with another woman-the girl i worked with and her sister have the same names as their dads other 2 daughters!!!! Either he really liked those 2 names or he has no imagination what so ever!!!!!!!0 -
