  • Is there anyway to get a direct line to debitas we have been trying for weeks to get through but keep getting put through to people that speak hardly any english, are rude and very unwilling to help!! we can not afford the £60 a month they want us to pay but obviously we want to pay something each month, bbut they won't budge on the amount and won't put a payment plan in place for less which makes it look like we haven't and won't pay!! this is really getting stressfull now as we just want to speak to someone who will listen and help. they are now threatening to send someone to my house as they say we haven't been in touch!!!

Send your offer in writing by either record or special delivery to confirm they got your offer. Keep a copy of the letter, so if they try court action you can enter a defence.

  • I too am having trouble with capital one.
I wrote to them for a PPI reclaim, after paying £40 a month for over 4 years for a policy that turns out to have very little benefits in protection.
So i wrote to capital one last summer! Unfortunately at this time my monthly payments were cancelled by my bank and so my whole account has built up arrears which i have spoken CO about. My account has now been passed on to Debitas who have now sent out callers to my address.
I am on the second stage of letters for PPI reclaim, and also included a complaint about the conduct of Debitas - persistant phone calls to my work home and mobile, several times a day and outside of their trading hours. They have been told several times to not contact me at work as my manager is getting fed up. They had ignored these requests up until xmas and had been rude to my colleagues and manager.
I have had a couple of less than nice letters from Debitas, and today have received a calling card from power 2 contact. I certainly did not answer the door but the bouncer looking man left a card. Funny i don't recall any conversations or appointment making for a visitor to turn up at my home.

    so the fun begins................

Well my story is much like all of yours. Made redundant in 08, going from a salary of £24000 to £60 a week is hell. cutting the story short i had 6 creditors, 3 were credit cards amex,cap1,egg,1bankloan and odraft. Anyways my debts were about 25000. All my creditors eventually agreed to my offer of payments, i had £200 a month to share between all of them.
All have accepted .... except one. CAPTIAL ONE.

Worst thing is that i owe cap1 the least of all my creditors £450. after 6 months of hassle, phonecalls, harrassment, threats etc, this has now been sold to debitas and has increased to £750.

I receive up to 8 calls or more daily, i work nights so this isnt appreciated...i get help from national debtline who are excellent.

I received a letter to say a doorstep collector will be calling unless i ring them, (i rang 7p connection fee and 2p per min) going through all the security checks all they want is the full amount, i explain my situation and how long its been going on, theyre not interested. i asked about the doorstep collections and they said ignore that its to get you to ring us ( i taped this call so have the proof if it goes to court) they are extremely rude, unhelpful, keen to cut you off.

They have constantly rang my old workplace speaking to old colleagues. I received a letter threatening ccj action today and am not bothered about it.

My payment to cap1 worked out at only £3.63 a month but thats all i can afford, they wanted £6.64...now theyre not open to negotiations and want the full amount or at least 34% downpayment before a plan is arranged, i asked where this money is supposed to come from and she said..another job? thats not our concern..i said that if you are not willing to help i suggest you take the proceedings further, he said we will return to cap1 to see what they want us to do (why would they need to speak to cap1 when they bought my debt?).

Luckily I have a standing order set up and have paid them £3.63 for the past 7months without fail (gesture of goodwill) and never missed a payment when in my old employment, is this ammo enough should it go to court?

It shouldnt get to me, but it does and after reading some of you are having the same problem it makes me mad.

Oh and if anyone needs the number that debitas use to ring you (to ignore), they just rang that very second on 08005610179.

He then said he was a Bailiff from 'the courts'. I haven't received any letters from any court. Only angry ones from deibitas. Am I right in thinking he was just trying to scare me? and that he is simply a debt collector from debitas? Thanks

I don't know but isn't impersonating a bailiff an extremely serious offence? At the very least I think the Courts might be interested to hear what this lot are up to.

Inicdentally, I dragged out the Debitas thing for ages and they eventually gave up and handed me over to another bunch of scavengers called frederickson International who seem to think they're going to have more success by having a poncey website and sending me threatening letters. I have always said that if they will provide proof of the alleged debt I will pay it but they sent me a blank application with 'your sgnature removed as we are permitted' (????) and flatly refuse to send me copy statements (haven't been able to access my account online coz they blocked it) because apparently the signature on my request doesn't match the one they have on file. I told them it obviously wasn't me who had the account then and perhaps they'd do better to chase whoever's impersonating me. The last letter I sent to Frederickson, telling them that I require proof of the alleged debt and all future correspondance other than this will be filed unanswered and retained as evidence in any legal proceedings, had 'Reply to your unsupported treat of action over an alleged debt for which you are either failing or refusing to provde proof' in big red letters on the front of the envelope. Every time they turn the key I turn it further. I do not like these sort of people. Don't let them intimidate you, Folks. Deny everything that can be denied and demand proof of everything. String them out. Make them work. Cost them money. Good luck to you all
  • I wish to write to debitas to complain about the number of phone calls I am getting, I am so fed up i now have a special ringtone for them , can anyone tell me the address to write to
  • HERES HOW...when they next ring you...tell them youve had enough and want to pay the balance in full...when the foriegner on the other end of the phone finally catches their breathe after calculating all the commission they are just about to earn,,proceed as follows....GIVE THEM THE DETAILS OFF YOUR CAPITAL ONE CARD,,(to which you owe the balance),,AND TELL THEM TO TAKE THE FULL AMOUNT OWED...they dont usually realise till its been declined,,what youve actually done.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:IF THIS CROWD ARE DEALING WITH YOUR ACCOUNT,,YOUVE ALREADY DEFAULTED,,so what are you worried about,,,dont let them get to you..they loaned the money, got piles of intrest, your circumstances changed,,they claimed the loss in tax,,and whatever they get is a bonus.....the laws on your side,,,NEVER PAY MORE THAN YOU CAN COMFORTABLY AFFORD,,AFTER BEER,, NIGHTS OUT,,HOLIDAYS,,WOMEN,,IMPORTANT BILLS,,and putting some in your savings account.
