  • Great that the train day went well, it sounds like a busy day! Was it sunny as well as warm - it was freezing here?
    Roll on Cornwall!

Beanilou - you are partly right - I work in a nursery and we get school holidays. The area I live in has 2 weeks for the Whit holidays (Spring Hols I think is the official term now) - most areas get 1 week but for some strange reason primary schools here get 2 weeks, secondary schools only 1 cos of exams. So it is always much quieter and cheaper for the second week as we follow the primary school example. SOoooo - we break up on 28th, sort out house and pack 29th and head off to 'sunny' Cornwall early Sunday 30th - hopefully missing all the traffic that will travel on Saturday - got to be optimistic LOL. The caravan (a very small 25year old relic) should be set out and washed ready for our use when we get there - we keep it down there save towing it back and forth every year. Then all we have to do is unpack and put the awning up and go off in search of sun, sea and pasties LOL

CBM - yes the sun kept making an appearance then going behind a cloud so cardi kept coming on and off - but it was dry and not too cold. About 20 people turned up (garden only small so that was enough) - I am going to do a similar venture as a fundraising effort and open it up to friends at work in the summer hols. I've aired the idea with a few of them - even if I only make a few pounds it should be a good afternoon - it really does create a fair bit of interest. We don't need much of an excuse for a get together at work - I'll be happy to provide tea and cakes for a quid or so to the pot for funds and dh doesn't need much of an excuse to play LOL.

Having a lovely peaceful night dh has gone out and I'm watching catch up tv - over the rainbow, so just had a piece of cake from freezer and cuppa - bliss.....

  • Freezer with scrummy cake ready, and an evening to enjoy life - sounds lovely!
I think the schools down here just get one week, they've moved to some '6 term' system which doesn't seem to have made much difference, just mean that Easter isn't in the middle of the Easter hols like it used to be.
Is it just me or is this year really going quickly? I just wish the weather could keep up - all my little plants are not keeping up with my timetable (can you tell I'm a newbie gardener) :rotfl:

Don't know what they are doing with our summer holidays this year we 'only' get 5 weeks LOL. In the past we have been known to have nearer 7 weeks. We don't get paid for it all - the hours we actually work throughout the year are worked out along with bank holidays and then 4 weeks holiday pay on top - this is divided into 12 monthly payments. I think teachers get paid but other staff don't. So my pay never changes and there is no chance for me to work any extra hours as I already work full time.

We have to go in next week Saturday for a 'summer fun day' - the fun element has been taken from it though for me this year - my good friend has no childcare and has been threatened with disciplinary action if she doesn't go - it is usually quite good fun and we usually enter into the fun spirit of the day - the fact she is being put under this pressure has ruined it for me. A shame as there are so many good things about the place we work - then they do things like this to staff and it undoes it all and leaves staff feeling totally under valued and taken for granted - whereas we all give over and above!!! Moan over LOL

I've had a really lazy day today - I went to get my hair done this morning - a luxury I reinstated last year after realising what a mess it had got and what a boost it gave me - I make it last 8 weeks though!!!!! I had every intention of blitzing the house as I thought dh was going out. Dh didn't go out and I have done precisely - NOTHING - unless falling asleep in fron of tv counts.

Friends little un is only 3 and it is so busy behind any stall - not practical really - she is a 1 parent family and uses her mum mid-week. Boss chose night before little un had to go in hospital and be knocked out for tests - so friend was anxious to begin with. How does a person with relatively few people skills get in a position of people management - a lovely lady really - just acts and thinks about consequences later. Both boss and friend ended up very upset by the whole episode. A bit of a mess really brought on by bad timing. It'll sort itself out in time - like everything else.

Had a call from dd - she seems a little less tired this week so good news there.

DH has gone out and I'm suppose to be tidying up - have done the living room - off to tackle the kitchen now - won't be back on here till it's done - see ya some time next week then - it's a STATE!!!!!

Just sort of finished the kitchen - had to put big platters I'd used last week away - so that led to sorting out cupboard and decluttering as I went - I am quite impresssed :) It was a state. Also did my baking cupboard - how do they get soooo messy - can't even blame the kids anymore - fraid it's all my own work LOL

Got a chicken pie out of freezer for tea and will have that with new potatoes and some veg - I'm bound to spill on cooker - so just got cooker to do after tea....and ironing from worktop. But that little delight will be after I've tackled upstairs - just having a cuppa and couple of minutes on here then will head up there. I AM going to have ALL house tidy at once - maybe not today but for when we go away - DH laughs and says I leave it tidy case we get any burglars cos they're the only ones likely to see it whilst we're away. Neighbour will see it though when she comes in to do lights for us - seen it a mess loads of time so don't really know why I bother.
