    Hope oH's thumb is okay!

Children in need stuff sounds fun but noisy.... I'm not autistic but struggle if it gets too noisy!

It was good fun yesterday at work - but next year we are going to keep the dressing up as a colour theme or something simple - so it isn't too different for those who find it hard - and there were a few too many super heroes who were having great fun - but needed a very careful eye - just to check they didn't get pretend and reality mixed up!! LOL

CBM - it is great your son is at uni - I have a special interest in the kids on the spectrum. I have worked with many over the last 15 years when I re-trained as a nursery nurse - I worked doing home thereapy for about 7 years then worked at a centre purely for children with autism and somehow ended up where I am now - about 2/3 mainstream children and the remainding third are made up of any and every type of SEN children. I tend to be key worker to the ones with behavioural and/or communication and autistic disorders. Hard work (and I've had the bruises to prove it) but can be very rewarding.

As for the noise - I switch my hearing aids off - LOL LOL - a slight hearing loss does have some advantages.

I have caught up with most of my tidying but no ironing was touched today.

I went to Debenhams to see if they had present I wanted for my dd and her oh in whilst they had 25% off - but they didn't have it. The Trafford Centre was so busy I couldn't be bothered looking around elsewhere so came home and decided to get a takeaway rather than dirty my sparkly clean cooker. It was a bit on the greasy side though so won't be rushing to get another in a hurry.

Your job sounds really interesting and good that you enjoy it.
Funny you should say that about takeaways...since we have been cooking from scratch mostly for the last 3 years we now find that takeaways seem to be greasy...never noticed it when we used to eat them regularly.
You can't beat home cooked real food.

Only have an occasional take away now and it did seem greasy and salty too. OH didn't seem to notice but I think the chilli and curry he eats have killed his taste lol

Been to Morrisons and stocked up on a few treats to last over Christmas whilst buy 1 get 2 free, also pg tips on a good offer so get a couple of those too. I could have easily piled the trolley higher but did a rough estimate as I went round - went over at £44 but all items I bought I will use if not necessarily this week. Will do the same next week buying whatever is on offer if I'll use it. Then I have stamps put away for Christmas shop and we're going to dds for a couple of days - so food wise I'm more than covered - just got to get on top of present shopping now.

Off to see friend and catch up whilst dh fits something to her computer. Will get around to doing the ironing at some time .....maybe!!

  • The morissons offer was good, I don't normally go there but went and got some Pringles which I know the youngsters will enjoy, and some other reduced bits. Ended up with quite a lot for £6ish, only really went there to use the parking while I got my haircut, so saving a couple of quid on the town carparks.

I also think it is great that DS2 is at Uni. When he was chosing his options they wanted him to go into a dedicated stream where the kids did 2/3 GCSEs and princes trust and leisure & tourism. We fought that as he was (is) a bright kid, just not very good in a classroom or at doing homework. Also fought them when he left school, he wanted to go to college and school said he should go into work. He was so determined to go to college that we said that we would not support the school. I'm ashamed now, but remember saying if he only lasts a term he will have learnt a lot and hopefully matured a bit. He finished up with the equivalent of 4 A levels - 3 As and a B.
When he was little I was just hoping for continence and literacy. :rotfl:

CLM Thats a fab inspiring story - just shows you should stick to your guns

Milann - I agree with you on takeaways. I now do a great healthy chicken fried rice using a tesco recipe - sometimes we add chippy chips to it just to feel like we've had a real (greasier!!!) chinese!

CBM - I applaud you standing up to the school. He has done so well - long may it continue!! It infuriates me that the expectations of some of the kids is so low. I always work on the assumption that the bar you set for them to work towards should be high and then lower it (without the child realising this) to their level - if it is too high until you get it right. They give what is expected from them in my opinion and if it is little - they are usually happy to give just that.

I stood up to the schools when my son was starting out (he's now 30) - he has a physical disability and it was recommended he attend a special school. I stuck to my guns - and he went to the local mainstream schools. He'd had enough of education as he left school so went to work - put himself through nigtschool got BTEC and A levels then went to uni a year later than he would have if he'd have done it the conventional way. He got his degree and went onto qualify as an accountant. Sometimes us mums have to stand up to 'those who think they know best' LOL. And the best bit he was happy to do it - as he made his own decisions in life.

I wish I lived nearer my dd - she hasn't been well for a few weeks now and is undergoing scans etc. Hopefully it will turn out to be a simple and treatable cause to her problems but she sounded quite worried tonight - being on the phone isn't quite the same as being face to face with her.

Started the week well - nsd today - took my lunch to work and came straight home instead of being tempted in shops.

Sorry to hear that DD isn't well.Hope that it isn't serious and that she recovers soon xx
  • Hi Milann

Sorry to hear about DD, its tough to hear that they are ill/sad isn't it, especially if they're at a distance.

Congrats on the NSD. Sometimes work can be just too convenient for the shops! I'm working from home today - lunchtime dipping in to MSE diaries is (hopefully) cheaper than one looking at the Grabbit thread!

    Cheers
