In this day and age of low cost carriers practically charging you to breathe, i can understand why people cant get their heads round this, because it seems too good to be true 32kg for £8 for 2 people, Well done easyjet.

    Just updating.

Booked flights today for 3 people flying in december. Only booked 2 hold bags @£16 giving a 60 kg allowance or for £24 we could have had 3 cases and 60kg, spot the loophole:D:D
  • I've just booked a flight with Easyjet, and had similar concerns to the original query. Here's the chat I just had.

[David Law] We have just booked a flight from Malaga to Liverpool one way (booking ref XXXXXXX) and we chose to have just one hold bag between us - ie we paid £9 for hold baggage, as it said that we could take 32kg in it for this price. When the confirmation came through, it said "The number of standard checked-in hold baggage stated for your booking must weigh no more than 20kg in total." So what weight are we ok to carry in this bag at this price please? Is it 32kg as was stated on the booking page, or 20kg as implied in the confirmation email?
    [Alice] Hi
    [David Law] Hi Alice
[David Law] 2 adults travelling by the way
[Alice] One minute please, I'll check our records for you.
[Alice] Your allowance is 20kgs per person, therefore it is 40kgs in total.
[Alice] For safety reasons you can not carry more than 32kgs in 1 piece of baggage.
[Alice] Finally: your allowance is 32kgs.
[David Law] But we've only paid for 1 bag, so it's ok to put 32kg in it and not have to pay any baggage excess? Is that ok?
[Alice] You are entitled to 32kgs in 1 piece of baggage booked between 2 passengers, however you will need to check in at the same time.
[David Law] Yes we'll be checking in at same time, just wanted to check there won't be any excess baggae to pay with 32kg in one bag. Can you confirm this please.
[Alice] No, there will not be excess weight charge, as you are entitled to 32kgs as confirmed above.
[Alice] Is there anything else I can assist you with?
[David Law] Thank you very much Alice. That's put my mind at rest! Goodbye, and have a good day.
[Alice] You are very welcome. Thanks for contacting us, have a great day too!

So that seems to lay it to rest, and does seem to be a nice little "loophole" for sharing baggage (if your bag's big enough). Nice one Easyjet!
...although I will of couse be printing out the chat and taking it with me just in case! ;)
  • any answers on this question would be good please?
i booked for 5 passengers with 2 bags so that would equal a combo of 64 kgs
then i had to make a seperate booking for partner at a later date, he is travelling with us though can i do a combo luggage share with his case or not:confused:
was wondering if id be able to or otherwise i think i may have to add on another case as may not have enough weight, ive managed before to do it ok but forgot i need to pack xmas gifts:eek:
    thanks in advance

Here is the reply I got from a similar query: me with one bag, boyfriend with no bag, separate bookings, but check in at the airport at the same time. Reply is no.

Anyway, I would email them. They are pretty quick and address your point directly.

    Thank you for contacting us.

I would like to confirm to you that since you had made two separate bookings for yourself and your boyfriend, I regret to say that the free weight allowance for both of you could not be combined together. Also, you will be unable to club your luggage together as only one bag is booked.

However, if you would like to carry up to 32 kgs in that one bag, you will have to pay excess weight charges.

    Thank you

I have just been on the secure live chat and asked the same question and had the same reply as you, which I have printed off and will take with me to the airport.

    Great value.

Sorry, I should have come back and confirmed - excuse me if this has been clarified.

We took 1 bag weighing 30 Kgs on our holiday on 2 Oct to Croatia and did not incur any extra charges. Just paid for 1 bag with 2 passengers travelling.

Great value and thank you to the original poster.

This was plenty as it matched the low cost flight allowance which is 15 Kgs pp and you have the weight of the bag included in this so we actually got more in our 30 Kgs allowance being in 1 bag!

    Go for it.

I am absolutely stunned at this "loophole"
I certainly would be printing off above quoted conversation b4 taking any more than 20 KG. per paid hold bag.

    Hello,

Every 3/5 months I fly to MXP (and return) with my girlfriend and each time we leave MXP we have 32kg in one suitcase.

We never ever had anyone saying anything about the weight and we never paid extra.

    Regards,
    giruzz

Ressurecting this thread - interesting reading - though I have just paid for 3 bags between 5 of us with Easyjet. But at least my mind is at rest that 2 of them can weigh up to 32kg and one 20kg............. but then do I really need to take that much stuff ... lol
