    Hi

Sorry, forgot to come back and update. We had no problems at all, despite having over 20kg each way

[a] Baggage allowance 32kg for 2 people without charges?
    [Emily] HI there!
[Emily] Hi, welcome to easyJet my name is Emily, how can I help you today?
[a] Hi. Just wondering as I'm a little concerned that I may be charged extra. 2 people are travelling with 1 suitcase. The website nd booking process suggest I can carry 32kg without additional costs. Is this correct
[Emily] as long as both of the passengers will be checking in at the same time, yes you may take up to 32 kg without extra charges
[a] Why is it that 2 people travelling can only take 20kg each for taking a case each without charges. Only 8kg less? is this right. I have not paid for any additional allowance but can take a case upto 32kg
[Emily] the case is that if you are purchasing at least one item on the reservation, it automatically gives each of the passengers traveling on this reservation the allowance of 20 kg that can be combined within the items of hold luggage added to the reservation
[Emily] thus, as far as you reservation is concerned
[Emily] in theory, you have the allowance of 40 kg per reservation (20 kg per passenger)
[Emily] but in practice, we have the restriction of 32 kg per one item that can be taken

In this case above, Emily, from Easyjet, is assuming BOTH passengers have paid for hold luggage

In elliotj's case, only 1 hold bag has been purchased BETWEEN 2, so the allowance will be 20KG

To turn up with 32KG will be an expensive mistake IMO

    Each passenger is allowed:
    • 20kg of hold luggage
    • With a maximum weight of 32kg per bag (due to regulations)
    • Each piece of hold luggage will incur a fee
    • Excess weight will be charged
    • Each passenger is allowed a combined maximum weight of 50kg
How do I buy additional bags and excess weight?
    • Purchase online at My easyJet.com
    • Calling the Contact Centre*
    • At the airport sales desk

  • hi all - the 2 persons and 1 hold bag = 32kh. This is true but I have only just realised this from my confirmations. we usually have a bag each and on the confirmation it states 2x20kg. Recently, we booked 2 people but one bag and it states on the slip = 1x32kg. After all this time I could have just needed one bag. Ok, it is 8kgs less for 1 bag than 2 bags but still worth just paying for one hold bag.

We had the same interpretation when we flew with Monarch, but were told that we had to pay excess baggage despite having less than the total baggage allowance for the people in our party, e.g. we had 4 people, 3 bags, total weight about 68kg.

In the end I had to check in my daughter's hand baggage to avoid paying excess charges, as they said the average weight over the bags had to be less than 20kg. I did think it was just that they made a mistake but wouldn't admit it because of the general airport staff god complex, it is incredibly hard to tell though. Definitely take your printouts with you, but even then they will make up the rules as they go along and threaten you with not letting you check in if you dispute it.

Hope you are very luck and get the rare helpful check in person.
  • I'm sure this has been cleared up by now but...
    -20kg or under is free
-over 20kg is charged per kilo
-32kg is the absolute maximum weight accepted (this would mean you paying 12kg of excess baggage), if it weighs over 32kg your luggage will be refused and you will have repack to make it lighter.

Also beware that they are clamping down on hand baggage size, and if you have more than one item of hand luggage (ie handbag AND rucksack) then you will also be charged at the gate, so you need to make sure all your bags are squeezed into one bag. if your bag is too big for hand luggage, you will be charged at the gate for the bag to be put in the hold.

You may get away with it once or twice, as they are pretty inconsistent, but they are charging more and more people now so better to be safe than sorry.

I too have just been on the live chat, and had it confirmed that 2 people sharing 1 bag can check in up to 32kg without any extra charges (as long as they check in at the same time).

Have printed this off and will be taking it with me!

Apologies for sounding thick but when you are asking the livechat representatives are you making it crystal clear that of the 2 people only 1 has paid for one hold bag.

I can see where a rep may be confused by a simple question asking can both persons allowances be put in one case, assuming that they have both been paid.

Hope someone can clear this up as im looking to fly with EJ soon

Well I gave the livechat rep my booking reference number so he actually went in to his system and looked it up - ie he would know that 2 adults have only paid for 1 bag, and as I said, he confirmed that we can take up to 32kg in one bag without extra charges.

    Right, hopefully final clarification....:j:j

I specifically asked the question, highlighting only one person paying for hold baggage and I cant believe it but, you CAN take 32k in one case between 2 passengers and only pay once:D

    Chat dialogue below

[Dorothy] Have you already booked the flights?
    [John ] Just abput to
    [John ] about
[Dorothy] So, each passenger can take up to 20 kg in hold baggae
[John ] Hi. I'm a bit confused by the website. It would appear that there is an allowance of 20kg hold baggage each customer if they pay for it, however it looks like if only 1 of the 2 customers who is travelling pays for hold baggage then in theory 32kg (both peoples luggage) can be pooled together and carried in one case with no extra charge. Am I reading this wrong?
[Dorothy] if you want to book one suitcase between 2 passengers, the allownace is 32kg
[John ] And the cost for this is how much please?
[Dorothy] it is 8 GBP per flight
[John ] Is it the same as just the one person carrying 20kg? in effect 12kg free???
[John ] or an extra £8
[Dorothy] 20kg allowance is per passenger, not per item, so if you have 2 passengers sharing one suitcase the price would be the same as for one passenger carrying one suitcase
[John ] Thanks very much for clearing that up for me, seems to be a cheap way to increase luggage, fantastic news! Thanks
[Dorothy] You are very welcome. Thanks for contacting us, have a great day.
