EasyJet Checked Luggage max weight - 2 pax 1 bag

I have flown with Easyjet many times and its definetly only 20kg per person. If only 1 hold bag has been paid for then 20kg is all you will get.
For anyone reading this dont think for 1 min that you can pay for 1 hold bag and be allowed 32kg (as others seem to think you can) for 2 people as it wont happen and you will be charged excess.
I read it the same way as you - by all means you can have 32kg in one bag, but anything over 20kg and you will pay excess baggage charges.
Out of interest, why would anyone only pay for 1 bag, then pay excess charges to take 32kg. Surely you'd just pay for 2 bags in the first place ?? Then again, the wording is that confusing I suppose some people get caught out and it's too late once you're at the airport check in - bet they make a fortune. Perhaps the wording is deliberately confusing !
Please, can someone who works for Easyjet set the record straight - I think I'm reading it correct but I'm really not 100% sure.0 -
You are allowed 32kg for 2 people travelling and one bag in the hold...... 2 people and 2 bags in the hold 20 kg EACH0

Thanks for the replies.
As someone else stated, I think that it is as clear as mud, and easyjet deliberatly make it unclear so people will have to cough up up to 108 quid in excess weight charges at the airport. It could be argued, but I dont think it is worth the risk to turn up with up to 32kg and get stung 9quid per kg over 20kg.
The problem is that the top part of the ticket implies that I have paid for the ability to take 1 bag with up to 32kg, and its not until you read the small print further down the ticket that you see that this is probably not true.
Maybe another one for Martins unfair/non-transparant charging?0 -
If you take one bag between 2 it's 20kg. If two or more of you are taking 20kg each, max allowed in any one bag is 32kg - this is a health & safety thing, nothing to do with baggage allowance.0

I read the bit on the booking process where 2 people, 1 bag = 32kg, 2 people 2 bags = 40kg & 1 person 1 bag = 20kgsloppychops wrote: »Obviously you are reading it differently to how i did.
The 2 people 2 bag weight of 40kg is significant as it doesn't say 20kg per person but 40kg per booking - ergo Easyjet do allow pooling of luggage and therefore the maximum for one bag & two people is 32kg0 -
32kg is the max that airport staff are allowed to lift. It's a health & safety thing, not limited to easyjet.
Easyjet (along with many companies) allow you 20kg of checked luggage per person. You may check in a bag up to 32kg (if they have the space) but you will pay excess baggage charges for it. If you wanted to take that much luggage it would obviously have been cheaper to pay for 2 bags when you purchased the ticket.0 -
As above the 32kg per case rule is for the airport handlers nothing to do with any of the airlines.
I havent been with easyjet recently but im sure last time i went you couldnt pool your luggage because i had to stop booking with them and use bmi when i used to travel on my own with my little girl because i could only physically pull 1 case, 1 pushchair and 1 hand luggage. So we picked bmi as they let me pay for 2 hold luggage of 20kgs each but i put upto 32kg in 1 case. I have read the link that kiki has posted and that does seem to suggest you can pool luggage so perhaps they've changed the rules back to sharing since i last went less than 3 years ago.0 -
Hi
I am going away on Saturday and had exactly the same query.
I think the link to the Easyjet site that kiki21 put up is very clear: http://easyjet.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/easyjet.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4&p_created=1074004664&p_sid=XpLkssGj&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPSZwX3NvcnRfYnk9JnBfZ3JpZHNvcnQ9JnBfcm93X2NudD0yMjEsMjIxJnBfcHJvZHM9JnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li=&p_topview=1
As per the middle diagram, if you have 2 passengers and 1 hold bag, you are allowed up to 32kg
BTW I am fully expecting to use more than 20kg on Saturday, so I will let you know in a couple of weeks if this causes a problem (if you can wait that long)0 -
[a] Baggage allowance 32kg for 2 people without charges?
[Emily] HI there!
[Emily] Hi, welcome to easyJet my name is Emily, how can I help you today?
[a] Hi. Just wondering as I'm a little concerned that I may be charged extra. 2 people are travelling with 1 suitcase. The website nd booking process suggest I can carry 32kg without additional costs. Is this correct
[Emily] as long as both of the passengers will be checking in at the same time, yes you may take up to 32 kg without extra charges
[a] Why is it that 2 people travelling can only take 20kg each for taking a case each without charges. Only 8kg less? is this right. I have not paid for any additional allowance but can take a case upto 32kg
[Emily] the case is that if you are purchasing at least one item on the reservation, it automatically gives each of the passengers traveling on this reservation the allowance of 20 kg that can be combined within the items of hold luggage added to the reservation
[Emily] thus, as far as you reservation is concerned
[Emily] in theory, you have the allowance of 40 kg per reservation (20 kg per passenger)
[Emily] but in practice, we have the restriction of 32 kg per one item that can be taken[EMAIL="andrew@deverill.org"][/EMAIL]0 -
Thank you
I have just been on the secure live chat and asked the same question and had the same reply as you, which I have printed off and will take with me to the airport.
