    Hi all :)

I was going to start my own thread but i seen this one! I'm after a engagement ring and i was wondering how Samarajames.co.uk compare to say the high street like Goldsmiths ect ect.

I have ordered a sample from Samarajames to have a look at, it's a

    Princess cut
0.4 carat (wanted 0.5 but it's an extra £500!! can you tell that much/worth the extra??)
    Cut Premium
    Colour D
    Clarity VS2

and it's £1330.91 - anyone know what that would cost on the high street? is it good value?

    Thanks.

    Hi Lee,

My ring came from Samara james they are fantastic, Mine came to £506 but was valued at over £1250. The quality is really good too I would say it's alot better than high street quality if there can be lol.

If you want me to send pictures of mine pm me your email address. Mine is the Leah ring :)

theres not a great deal difference in size between .4 and .5 and the colour is a really good grade clarity could be better..ideally vs1 ...if you are spending that type of money I would visit on a fact finding mission the high street so you can see the differences in size colour clarity etc...a vs2 may have an imperfection which could be visible...if it were me I would like to check the stone first before spending that amount of money...you have a good budget with £1300 so shop around first!
My advice would be hit the high street..independant jeweller if you can and ask to see a range of stones colours and settings as well as clarity that way you will know exactly what you are after if you want to then shop online....

I notice they don't do that in the Princess section, i'm looking at the Megan/Hazelle design as she wants something simple yet classy with a wide (ish) band with no 'pinch' near the diamond... fussy :rotfl:

Thanks anyway, makes me feel more confident if i do end up buying from SamaraJames.

    £500 extra though

I hate shopping at the best of times and i don't think i could handle going from shop to shop on my own - it's a surprise you see ;)

I did read that you can't really see imperfections in a VS2/1 unless it's under a 10x scope but that's onlt what i've read.

she wants platinum..so heres the link for that...still within budget

you really have a good budget and theres no reason why you shouldnt be able to get something special
My concern about your original spec is why are you going for something of a fantastic colour and then getting at a vs2 grade...if you are playing with the spec on the website why not try dropping a colour grade and increasing the clarity?

The reason i'm thinking about VS2 or similar is because people from what i've read say it isn't that important as to the naked eye you can't see the very small imperfections although i'd love a flawless diamond but i think that's a bit overkill as i won't ne looking at it through a magnifier :rotfl:

Most important according to what i've read are Cut then Colour.

my advice to you of see the diamonds before you buy when spending that sort of money still stands...I appreciate that diamond shopping may not be your thing...but you have a really good budget and could get a lovely ring with cut clarity and colour for the price...good lUck with your search..im sure your girlfriend will treasure whatever ring you choose..an engagement ring isnt just an investment...its a gift of love!...one final piece of advice buy before the new year and the vat increase..

    Me again!

I've had a play on the excellent SamaraJames website and i've changed the colour to a F and increased the Clarity to VS1 and it's coming out at £1347.74, wondering if it's worth doing as there's very little in it from my original quote.

    It's a minefield i tell thee :rotfl:

Edit... http://www.diamondmanufacturers.co.uk/DiamondDetails_LD106222/ this looks nice (Diamond only) but the settings are pretty poor - none that i like.
