  • Hey people! Great to see this thread is going strong. I’ve used it for a reference for a couple of weeks and done some research myself. Leew…I’d say your probably safe in dropping down to an F colour – I think D is overkill from an MSE point of view! I’d recommend popping into some jewellers and just taking a look at some of the diamonds they have set in rings. Ask them and they will be helpful in telling you what colour & clarity the stones have – from what I’ve seen an F is almost impossible to tell from a D with the naked eye. I’ve been thinking of going with a G or H myself but need to get down to Hatton Gardens and see some G/Hs set in mounts. I have seen this on bluenile and wondered what people thought?..

    Ideal-cut, H-colour, VS2-clarity, Round, 0.71-carat Diamond - £1391 + VAT

It comes with strong blue fluorescence which brings the price down a little I think and from what I’ve read shouldn’t affect the colour at all to the naked eye. Then I’d have to get myself out and find the actual ring! Nerve wracking stuff this….

lee in essence what the previous poster says is true..although I think he may be spamming bluenile!
both your choices are pretty good...its your call...
have you actually been to a jewellers or just research online at this stage?
Please go to a good jeweller who can show you the stone sizes and the types of colours diamonds have and also the clarity differences...once youve seen diamonds in the flesh so to speak it will be a lot easier to make your purchase on line
afterall you wouldnt spend 1300 on a used car without seeing it or knowing at least what to expect so why do the same with the ring you want to propose with...

if youre thinking of going down the diamond only route then I would really advise you to go to a jeweller who manufactures their own rings...again usually independant...you are getting into bespoke which can work out quite expensive...although not something to rule out...most manufacturing jewellers can get good priced stones and then put them in the settings you choose. you have more bargaining power on price and discount if you use their stones rather than taking your stone with you to have set...I would only advise taking your own stones if it something of sentimental value ie it was a diamond fron grannys ring you wanted updating.

Am i right in thinking most High Street jewellers won't have the same quality of diamond like say a VS1 Clarity/Colour D in stock to look at? sure i read that somewhere saying the choice is quite limited.

I take it they would 'mither' the hell out of me too! and to be honest i'd have no intention of buying from them as you seem to get so much more for your money online.

True you will need to go to a good high st jeweller..I doubt that h samuels will have an array of diamonds for you to peruse but a good independant jeweller especially one that makes their stock will certainly have a selection.
no idea where you are based but most towns have at least one non branded chain jeweller...there are also jewellery quarters at places like hatton garden,brighton,birmingham,....i used to live in bristol and could point you to at least 3..recently I used an independant jeweller in Banbury so it doesnt even need to be a big town to have a good jeweller! (no offence intended to Banbury ..and the jeweller I used was superb!)
When you say you have no intention to buy...but you would like some advice, I actually see no reason ehy a good place wouldnt guide you through what to look for in a diamond.....
Have you actually made your mind up with samara james?..or if you went to a jeweller and he offered you a ring for your budget the same as the samara james who would you purchase from?
The previous poster has made a good point over discount with samara james....many independant jewellers and some larger high street ones too will offer a discount on their jewellery..sometimes as much as 20%..the line is that your best price for cash..hasnt failed me yet.....
Both the samara james rings you are looking are are really nice...all the way through this ive said look around,I still believe you have a good budget which could get a very special ring...whether that is with samara james or somewhere else is your choice...
just dont forget a platinum engagement ring needs a platinim wedding ring....so once one search finishes the next begins.......

  • The thing with Samara James is that say my ring cost £506 and it was valued at £1200 just for arguments sake, would you rather have a ring bought at £1200 and be worth £4000 or have a ring bought at £506 and be worth £1200?? Just because being a woman myself I'm not sure I would want to wear a ring that costs that much money incase I got mugged or lost it.

I hope you can see where I'm coming from

Hi, I'm a first time poster but long time snooper :)

Would anyone be able to give me their advice regarding these diamonds.
They're from Quality Diamonds (anyone dealt with these before??), EGL certificate 7701304729 or EGL certificate 7701419837

    Thanks in advance x
