    Hi,

sorry if this is in the wrong place (long time lurker, first time poster!)

i recently proposed to my girlfriend, and we have been doing the fun bit of choosing a ring together! think we have chosen the setting, and are having the ring made up, but wondered if anyone can advise on the main stone...

we have found one which is a round brilliant (measurements 6.33-6.37 x 4.11)
    just over a carat (1.02)
E, VS1, cut grade 'very good'
    (with GIA cert)

how do we check how good the measurements are? and how important is the cut grade? (e.g. would a lower colour grade but 'excellent' cut be better?)

we are MSEers through and through, so my main concern is that we are getting good value for money etc!

    any advice gladly appreciated!

    hi guys.
not sure if i can help, or if this is the right place but...
i recently got UN-engaged - unfortunately it was after buying my ring but before giving it to my girlfriend. _pale_

So i have a new ring going spare. it's a GIA .91 ct, F in colour with VS2 clarity.

I paid £5500 for it but will let it go for a lot less for a quick sale

I've been looking at the samara james website for my (belated) engagement ring.
My ring size is H so have pretty much decided that a 0.4 carat is best for me (I'm going for small but sparkly) as I don't think I'd feel comfortable with anything larger. Can anyone recommend a style that would be suitable for that size?
I would like something unfussy but not sure how those rings would actually look like in reality with a smaller diamond. Would prefer a slimmer band as my fingers are a bit thin though average length. I'll probably get a sample from them but just having trouble narrowing down the choices at the mo'.
I'd be interested to know what style ring other people chose with a diamond less than 0.5 carat.
    Thanks!

I am going to Hatton Garden on Saturday to choose my engagement ring and I am really excited.

Was hoping for some recommendations of where to go.

I think I am going to go for a certificated 0.50 (ish) carat round brilliant cut, VS1, colour E/F in a 6 prong basket setting.

But whats the betting that I come back with something different!

Not that I can wear it yet anyway because he wants to do a proper proposal and wont let me wear it until he does it.

Thats what happens when you have been together for 8 years, it takes all the surprise out of everything!! :D

Me at home, I am having my wedding ring made by John M Reynolds in Hatton Garden. The ladies there are lovely, really helpful, and helped me realise my dream (rainbow sapphire full eternity ring with brilliant cut stones). I also got my engagement ring from Hamiltons, they do diamonds that aren't certificated so if price if your most important factor then you can haggle with them a bit more ;)

when dealing with samarajames I paid an extra £50 to have the ring valued at the Assay office. It came back with a value of over double what I paid for it, which is unbelievable. They also provided some great advice regarding insurance.

I really cannot recommend these guys enough - fantastic quality products, fantastic customer service, and you can get far more for your budget here than on the high street.

Not sure but my now DH wore one. I like to think men wear one just for the same reason they do a wedding ring.
