  • has a quick look on QD, and found the one your looking at - the GIA cert number at the bottom of the page. its 15975574

Price - about average online price for weight,

otherwise i think - with 'good' (which is 2 marks below the top grade) for polish and symmetry and with the diamond not being as square as it could be - 4.75x4.39mm you could do better - and get a diamond that is better cut - for the same money.

Thanks very much - that gives me something to go on.

Only other thing I'd love some info on would be depth %s.

I've seen the pricescope table here: http://diamonds.pricescope.com/fnc1.asp

... And was planning on following the %'s on there for ideal or premium cuts, but then I saw a post on here when someone with a diamond within the depth range was told it was too steep.

Do I need to go by something additional to the pricescope info?

    Thanks,

    hbc
  • princess stones are tricky as there are no hard and fast rules for the traditional cut for these stones. the AGA cut charts are a good starting point to go with for these.

and another good rule of thumb is to discount stones with a larger table% than their depth%.

    Hi all,
I've been reading all of this topic with interest now that I'm going to be proposing in a few months time. I'm all clued up with the 4C's and everything :) but just have a query. The ring I'm buying will have 3 diamonds, middle one bigger than the two on the outside. I know I will get a certificate, but will this be for the middle/main diamond, all three, or will I get 3 certificates?
I presume if I get (for example), an E, VS1 for the main diamond, the other two will be to the same spec, just a smaller size.

Also, can I ask for your opinions too please. Remember this is for a 3 diamond ring (so weights are total). If you had the choice of the following, which would you go for?

    0.70c - D - VS1
    0.70c - F - VVS1
    1.00c - G - SI1

I think the center diamond would be around a .35 or .5c, and that SI1 would be safe, and due to the size a G would be good (look like a E/F?). I guess what I'm saying is, would you go for the bigger size over the other parameters with them being decent, or will the 0.7 D be so much better to have than the 1.0 G ?

    Thanks :D
  • Can anyone help (post above) ?
  • nepaul - mostly you will get certificates for diamonds 0.3cts and above, so depending on the arrangement of diamonds you may get one or 3 certificates..... (3*0.3ct will get you 3 certs, 0.25+0.5+0.25 will get you one)

My advice would be to go for CUT above all else, then size, so get Excellent or Very Good cut diamonds, Si clarity (be sure to check they are eye-clean) and G colour.

Make sure you only get IGI or GIA certificate(s).

    Amyone give me some advice?

I want to spend around £2500 on an engagement ring but don't know where to start. I would like something fairly decent and could maybe stretch a little.

I would love a 1ct ring but would obviously sacrifice that for any advice that I can get here.

I did however spy this which looks like the type of thing i am after :

    http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/detail/R/8122172/

I have a purchasing scheme at work so could get 25% off this aswell.

Any advice on what I should be considering would be greatfull.

I definately want a platinum of white gold band.

Hi smegy, I am by no means an expert but if you can afford it I would def go for platinum rather than white gold, white gold wears quite quickly and will need re-plating every few years whereas platinum doesn't. Have you any ideas of what your future fiancee might like (style-wise etc?)

In my opinion the 'sparkle' of the diamond was more important than the size when I chose mine. There are 4 things to consider when choosing a diamond, they are known as the 4 C's (colour, clarity, cut and carat weight) and these influence the sparkle (more info at this link)
