  • So what do you all think about this ring then? The central diamond is 1.02 ct, colour D, and VS1 (there's a flaw in the centre of the stone) but it's in platinum, not white gold.

Just wondered how much you'd pay for it - or not. Sorry, go to th 6th ring down on 'engagement rings' it's the cushion cut one.

    samarajames.com

:edit: sorry didn't mean to offend you with the above comment, only you can choose a ring style you like

I bought this one as I think it looks fantastic
  • Hi all,

I'm a new poster, but long-term lurker! I've been reading this thread with interest as I am newly engaged and lucky enough to be able to choose my own ring! I've been looking on the internet at different styles etc, and I've found a style I like here:

    http://www.77diamonds.com/vintage_rings.html

It's the 1477 vintage ring in platinum with a round stone, something like the following:

    http://www.77diamonds.com/certificate.asp?stoneid=893884&bp=

or with an emerald cut, like:

    http://www.77diamonds.com/certificate.asp?stoneid=932998&bp=

But, I'm not sure about the company and, like bigmomma, I also like the look of Daniel Prince and it looks like they could custom make one for me, but I'm guessing they would be more expensive than 77diamonds? Has anyone bought anything from either of these places? And, are they good value or over-priced? I have a budget of around £3000.

    Thanks!

    I think that's a lovely classic style.

  • Hi,

I'm looking to spend ~£2k on a Princess cut Ring. A few initial questions:

At this price range is the extra cost of a platinum band over white gold going to significantly decrease the quality/size of diamond? Platinum bands appear to be another £200-300 over white gold.

What sort of specifications should i be looking out for? Found this one on bluenile.co.uk:

    Stock number: LD01204722item_pxlclear.gif
    Price: £1,463 +VAT
    Carat weight: 0.71item_pxlclear.gif
    Cut: Very Gooditem_pxlclear.gif
    Colour: Fitem_pxlclear.gif
    Clarity: VS1item_pxlclear.gifpxl.gif
    item_pxlclear.gifDepth %: 69.8%item_pxlclear.gif
    Table %: 75%
    item_pxlclear.gifSymmetry: Very gooditem_pxlclear.gif
    Polish: Very gooditem_pxlclear.gif
    Girdle: Thin to thickitem_pxlclear.gif
    Culet: None
    item_pxlclear.gifFluorescence: Noneitem_pxlclear.gif
    Measurements: 5.10 x 4.97 x 3.47 mmitem_pxlclear.gif
    Length/width ratio: 1.03

    Any good?

I live near london so shall go to Hatton Garden to have a look at the options

if you go back to what i said on page 33 regarding someone elses Princess stone: "is to reject stones with a table % that is greater than the depth %."

So i would say - Leave this one, there are others out there.
Have a look at this one: 0.72ct H VS2 It has gained a top cut grade from the AGS lab, and you can see from the pictures how well cut this stone it.
Price wise - the Blue Nile stone, after you add tax is about £1680.
This good old gold stone is £1783 - so only about £100 more, but for a much sparklier diamond.
Hopefully you can see the embedded video with that diamond, if not have a watch: here This is a comparision between a stone cut to the same standards (AGS 0) as the one i linked to, compared to a stone cut fairly similar to the one you linked to at Blue Nile.

Also, from Whiteflash there is this 0.7 ct G VS2 which comes in slightly more expensive at £1950.

of course to all 3 diamonds the Blue Nile stone, the GOG and Whiteflash you need to add in the cost of a ring.

If you want to buy in the UK, then i would seriously recommend making an appointment to visit Best Diamonds at Royal Exhange to look at their 'Diamonds by Infinity' range of Princess stones, which again are cut to meet AGS 0 standards.

If you dont mind me asking aimee, how much did you pay?

Hmm it was 5 years ago now so you have to take that into account. I can't really remember but I don't think it was even half of the one you showed me. It still looks as stunning as it did then.
