i too dont like yellow gold so have white gold E and W rings
my engagement ring was from an independant little jewellers but my wedding ring was from warren james it has 5 lil diamonds inset into it and i love it
underneath both rings the "white" has worn away but from the top they are both fine and the E ring is just over 4 yrs old and W ring just over 2 yrs
and all joking aside about argos jewellery ,clown pendant anyone ?lol
their rings are actually really nice and you would never know it was from there anyway ,unless you told someone !
this one is nice http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/2046244/Trail/C%24cip%3D43754.Jewellery%2Band%2Bwatches%3EC%24cip%3D43766.Rings%3EC%24Material%3D18ct+White+Gold.18ct%2BWhite%2BGold.htm0 -
Depends where you live, hatton garden in london maybe?. Any asian jeweller can get white gold for you at a much better price & quality than the high street. Also, they don't usually sell under 18ct as 9ct is pretty much more alloy than gold. I would recommend 18ct as its tough & more solid than 9ct, or 22ct for something really special, as in your case a wedding ring. If you are near london you are welcome to pm me as we have just had 4 weddings in the last year, all having varied tastes in rings, hence using different jewllers & having one of pieces made. Anyways hth, goodluckNo one said it was gonna be easy!0

Wizwoo wrote:I'm sorry - but OH has been in the trade for nearly 10 years and there is no such thing as "natural" white gold. All gold is yellow - white gold has all been rhodium plated and as ViksB suggests will need to be replated as it will wear off. (Otherwise it will always have an underlining yellow tinge / colour).
This is my understanding too. I also dislike yellow metal, so was thinking of a white gold wedding ring, but when I found out about the above, I couldn't be bothered with it, so went for platinum. Although it's true that it's duller than white gold, I prefer it like that, and in fact, I went for a satinised finish that gives it a very soft shine. I got it from the Jewellery Collection (https://www.thejewellerycollection.com), and they claim to give a lifetime guarantee on the finish, they'll re-polish it for free if you want.0 -

Hi,
Great thread. OH and I are going to Hatton Garden on Saturday to buy my white gold engagement ring.
Shays_mum: Can I PM you for jeweller recommendations?
Thanks. lisele0 -
I got married earlier this year, although I bought the engagement ring from the highstreet for approx a months salary, we actually MADE our wedding rings.
Firstly my wife said that the fact I surprised her with the type of ring that I bought (being what she would have bought herself), was the best bit.
Secondly she also says that I put a lot of thought into the proposal, and her and her friends say that having a memorable proposal made things even more special, you can make it memorable and romantic on a small budget, or like I did and blow the budget, but I wont go into that now.
When I realised that some of my friends were spending 5000+ on engagement rings I felt inferior, although on finding out that their parents helped out, according to my wife, takes all the shine off, and besides she says that she preferred the personal thought. In my opinion if you buy good quality at the best price, it will hold it's value better, just look at the commodities markets. Also read up on diamonds, you can buy a large cheap diamond, because it will have lots of flaws and not so good colour, or a small internally perfect colourless diamond. I did the latter (and said it was just like her - small and perfect)
Wont be long now
So the other idea. We made our wedding rings at a company in London called http://www.weddingringworkshop.co.uk/
it took a full day from deciding on what metal/ style / size etc but we had a jeweller by our sideto guide us from the very start, cutting up the platinum bar to roll it out to finally polishing the ring (although it then gets sent off for hallmarking etc), somehting we have since recommended to all our engaged friends for their rings. When we looked at the cost it worked out cheaper than buying from Argos, because the wife wanted a cut out in the ring so that her solitare engagement ring would match up and also some engraving on the inside. The insurance cost of my ring alone is more than it cost for the 2 of them.
More importantly for you there were also people making their own engagement rings, as the workshop source top quality diamonds (they showed us a 10k raw diamond that some banker had bought as an investment.
I'll stop here as I'm sure I've carried on too long, good luck0 -
Just realised that I hadn't scrolled to the end of the thread, well done on the proposal0

Folks, my girlfriend has just accepted my proposal of marriage! I'm now looking for a nice engagement ring but am staggered at the costs. I'm looking for an emerald/diamond in platinum ring. Most places averages £1500! Can anyone recommend somewhere apart from Argos and H Samuels!!
Thanks.0 -
I've heard recommendations of this site:
http://www.diamondgeezer.com/
Learn about the 4C's and find out what's most important.. size or sparkle.
When I come to buy a ring (in next 10 months most likely) I already know she'd like to pick it, so we might go out to turkey or south africa where the rocks are cheaper and you get more stone for your money.
Sorry, forgot, congratulations!0 -

CONGRATULATIONS
Why not try your local high street for a jewellers, often these are underrated but excellent not only in price but service and can often provide a 'one off' ring. In one of my local towns we have an excellent jewellers who are much more willing to go out of their way to help.
Or maybe your girlfrind has a piece of jewellery (necklace, earrings etc) that she no longer wears and you could have this made into a ring for her (if that makes sense),then you will be getting a truly original piece... my husbnad gave me a friendship ring when we got together and I have just had it made into a necklace.
HTHProud to be me, proud to be who I am!!0
