You'd probably get a better deal at an auction house. Unfortunately, you still won't get anything like what you paid for it, because, as Loopy-loo found out, the intrinsic value of the ring (metal and gems) is far less than the retail price.0

My DH's wedding ring is second hand - he/it/we have been fine0 -
You can go to your local town and there will probably be some jewelers who deal in second hand jewellery there are two by me they normally specialise in antique stuff but are willing to buy any quality piece and although you wont get anywere near what you paid they normally give a good deal and your guarenteed to get paid unlike ebay might be worth a try :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

You should get a good price for it on Ebay..specially if you have receipts/warranty etc.If you obey all the rules...you miss all the fun!! Katherine Hepburn0

Do jewellers do exchanges? ie if the ring you chose was not exactly her choice would they swap it? (don't worry this hasn't happened).
Also, I read a lot about haggling jewellers, does that include high street (eg e jones, hinds etc)? I know people mention independent jewellers a lot. Presumably they have a different selection of rings than high street? Thanks.
**edit**
also noticed that hatton garden gets mentioned a lot, would these places not be more expensive as it's in London?
Thanks for your help in advance. Am not new to MSE, just using a different username in case of other half seeing this post under my usual username.0 -

Lovely proposal story, bigjohn. Made me a bit misty!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
a lot of people mention hrd or gia certificates. how about igi, am I correct to think igi are as reputable as the other 2?
thank you
and one other question, if the ring isn't the correct size, can it easily be adjusted, or would I need to exchange it for correct size?0 -
Please!
The pressure is on, I need to buy the above, must be white gold and have a diamond/s in it.
Best places to shop? Places to stay away from? All advice welcome!
Cheers

Argos - Lizzie Duke???
Joking aside, my advice would be a day trip to Birmingham and Jewellery Quater. A ton of shops exist there selling a mind blowing number of styles of rings. Prices are much cheaper than any of the high street and quality is very good.
If you can't do this, look for jewellers on ebay that are based in the Jewellery Quarter and have a physical presence (so you get the rings cleaned, adjusted) and also a near perfect feedback and trading record.0
