You could have a trip to Birminghams jewellery quarter or Hatton Gardens in London as there are stacks of jewellers there, or you could join a jewellery/silversmithing night class and make your own. My OH had a couple come to one of his classes to make their own wedding rings.
Sorry, Congratulations xx0 -

My bf has gone over to my parents tonight to talk to them without me!!!
I think he is planning to aswell!0 -
Natal Wholesale Jewllers in South Africa sells beautiful jewellery....if you know someone who lives in SA or someone going out there.....that may be an option....
Best of luck with everything.0 -
Congratulations! :j
Just wanted to back up the recommendation of diamondgeezer.com.
My husband had an eternity ring made for me, to our design, cheaper than we could find in the shops - and they worked really hard to make sure it was what we wanted. In fact, they made it twice, because the first time they cut something too thin and a stone fell out!
Then, they brought it to our doorstep for us. Couldn't fault them!
Alternatively, it might be cheaper to buy a second-hand ring and have the stone reset. I was told years ago that this works because second hand jewellery doesn't attract VAT, although that may no longer be true.
Hope you find the ring you both want.0 -
Buy the best you can afford, she will love and treasure it all her life...then again if you get the cheaper one...who knows
Be happy and good luck0 -
cash converters had anadvert for jewellry on telly tonight if she doesn't mind second hand!! although I'd try a 'real' second hand place first.Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
I am wondering about rings too... the whole 'buy the best you can afford' is fine, but that is like asking 'how long is a piece of string?'!
What quality of diamond do you get? What quality is actually discernible from perfect by a normal person (i presume most people will not be able to tell the difference between D and G or FL and VVS?)? I certainly would want a diamond which looks basically perfect to a normal person, but I dont think that would mean a D/Fl! Certainly I imagine I would get alot more for the money if I settled for a G/VVS... but will anyone notice?! Is it more important to get absolute perfection or a bigger stone!?2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.0 -
Congratulations to you both - why not go to an antique centre and chose a ring from there - they are all unusual, and have the appeal of history behind them. Some bargains to be had - if i were to have my time again i would go there.0
