The special contract is an absolute nightmare & it appears that against all good advice (including that of his business partner, the company accountant & the glaringly obvious fact of already being under staffed & over worked) Gropey has told the client (themselves under huge pressure & penalties for late delivery to their client) that of course we can take on the other -failed- contractors share of work :mad::eek:. Frankly, we cant cope.

There is a reason why there *was* another contractor - now you know what it is...

Personal feelings aside, Gropey is an old skool style 'chat & charm' type, who micro manages every department & wants a meeting every 10 minutes to discuss 'Going Forward' which merely results in more time wasting & further confusion & totally !!!!ing off his staff who simply want correct information so that they can get on with the jobs that they are perfectly capable of doing by themselves without any interference.

No! You *need* with every pore of your soul a micro-managing nitwit. You do! And huggy feeliness beats being able to manage or ( *shock* *HORROR!* ) actually doing some of the work...

One such member of staff  today remarked that no further meetings were necessary, but more action would be helpful. Member of staff was given 4 separate tasks to do simultaneously, none of which had the correct info from the client to be able to progress & then inquired as to which should take precedence ... was told very curtly & loudly to "just do it".

    Hey Lula

    That all sounds fab.

The work stuff sounds exciting. It is good when you get the opportunity to 'step up'. I'm involved in a special project at work and it is good as I'm having to deal with other departments and it is great when I hear about good feeback from other teams. Especially if my boss has heard it ;)

I think your home decorations plan sound great and next year when you are DF you will be able to plan a really exciting holiday (within budget of course!) with DD.

    xx

I prefer the opportunity to "act up" ;) :rotfl:

Lula, I will be living my refurb plans for my flat through you... currently have half stripped skirting in the hall and a base layer of white on the walls (it's been like that for at least a year now...) on hold until I can gather the money for new doors and facings...which menas I'll want new skirtings too, which means I'll need to pull up the carpet in the lodger's room (we think there's two carpets there so it'll be skew-whiff if I don't), which means I'll need to wait until he moves out or goes on a long holiday... and that's not to mention the new kitchen or bathroom that I'd like or some beautiful furniture for the living room... :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

To quote my boss "I don't want questions... I want solutions" this has resulted in him saying I didn't want that there... I wanted it here... yes but you just said put it up so I did. He now tends to give slightly more information than he did to avert moo related disaster.

I think the best instruction I was given on a v. manic day was "go and do something productive" so I made all the harassed staff a cuppa. Think he meant go and work your !!!! off getting to the bottom of the mountain of shoite but at least the stress levels depleted somewhat.

Meanwhile yesterday I assisted him in putting up a giant noticeboard because I am a girlie and I'm not worthy of doing the drilling bit when he can have some fun. This resulted in several arguements. One of which was finding the centre of the wall so the noticeboard in question didn't look wonky. As it transpires half of 68 is not 44 and him with a Masters degree in eductation.

Having rambled on what I was eventually going to say was work has been going well for ages. You're allowed an off day once in a while and they won't fire you for having the balls to be gobby. It'll go down in company history as the day that Lula said F*orf I'm fabulous without saying those precise words.

    Happy PayDay!

I am torn between thoughts of stepping up, acting up or acting out... ;) Actually, I think it calls for a vision of Gropey making aesthetic improvements clad in a lipstick pink SuperLula cape.

As I believe the saying goes, may the force be with you...

OK, I take it all back about stepping up / acting out / acting up / doing more work for less cash.

only worth doing if you know you can do it with appropriate support etc!

Sounds like a complete nightmare and that gropey doesn't have a clue and is now ordering everyone around in a mad panic....

I hope things calm down a bit today and they get their acts together!
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

Thanks for all the posts :A

I am on the second half of yesterday s bottle which I forgot to tell you was only £3.59 & perfectly palatable too :D.

I have been feeling very miserable all day & it bothers me only slightly that I feel less miserable now that I am half way through the second glass of wine.

I woke up again during the night having a rant to myself & also going back over what I'd said & trying to measure by just how much I had overstepped the mark.

Came to the conclusion that while reminding Boss that "I didnt sign up for this !!!!!!" may not be number 1 on the 'ways to impress your boss' list. it is also not number 1 on the 'ways to lick your boss's @rse & remind him that you will take anything just to keep your job' list :p.

Briefly considered turning up in scruffy jeans with sulky, bad attitude but then remembered that my tantrum will carry more weight if I maintain my usual professional appearance & persona. Gropey wasnt in but when Grumpy alluded to my being p!ssed off due to not coping with the pressure I stated my case:

I am getting paid less than I was for doing a similar role 10 years ago. I also mentioned that my wage was fine for the job I was originally hired to do which came without much aggro & responsiblity & was supporting role, but that this had now morphed into a high pressure with screaming deadlines type of job.

They knew my personal situation & the hours I could work when they hired me & although I understand that the job I am now doing is difficult to achieve within the hours I do, I am happy to complete anything I can at home & frankly if that isnt suitable, they shouldnt have hired me in the first place.

I probably shouldnt have said that the project wasnt being managed very well by the client :o but I was in full flow by that time. I included that I felt it unfair that I was shouted at by Gropey for not completing tasks within my hours, whn I was prevented form doing this by lack of information by the client.

He listened to everything I said & then replied that he would see what he could do about it.

I have merely voiced what everyone else in the company feels but is either not brave/stupid/ballsy/premenstrual enough to express. I could tell that the other woman who works there was totally horrified by my outburst, but then she has mentioned that if she was even ticked off about her time-keeping by the boss she'd be mortified.

I do not live in the 1950s where woman are meant to be grateful to be let out of the kitchen to have 'little jobs' & some 'pin money'.

I do admit that I probably shouldnt have kicked off so publicly but on the other hand I am not going to take !!!!!! from anyone just because they are the boss & male :p.

Gropey was out of the office all day & arrived just as I was leaving, didnt look at me or speak to me.

I do wonder, not whether I can cope with the pressure, but whether I actually want to. I am glad I'm off for 4 days so I can reflect on just how much I want to work for this company & for what reasons.

Clearing debt seems to be the overriding factor.

I have promised to redesign some spreadsheets for Grumpy while I'm off & am in possession of some valuable information which makes me feel slightly more in control of matters.

    Apologies for rant

"I do wonder, not whether I can cope with the pressure, but whether I actually want to."

I'm completely with you on that one Lula... that's my thoughts on returning to work. I've decided that 1. I need to let things go that really don't matter in the grand scheme of things (things being life - not work) and 2. I've a time limit (which, incidentally co-incides with possible DFD!) and if it's really still that frustrating, then I can walk away!

We just got to remember we are in control of our own destinities and other people can only make us feel like !!!!!! if we let them!

Enjoy your days off - and don't do too much work work while you're off!

There's nothing like payday to get a girl back to her usual happy self :D.

Having consumed rather too much wine last night, I fell into bed at 10.30, only to wake up full of beans at about 1.30. I lay there for ages contemplating getting out of bed to go & work on the schedules, knowing that it would at least be peaceful ... & eventually crawled to the kitchen to rehydrate myself with squash, whereupon I immediately came to my senses, returned to bed & slept until 7.30 at which point I was woken up by the cat nibbling on my eyelashes . I do wonder how a cat that wont eat any form of fish at all, can still have tuna breath .

Mooooooving on, meter man arrived at 9.15 so I shall be expecting real bills within the next week which is fine as I have been stockpiling pounds in my funds saving account ;). Actually, it a sad but true fact that half the fun of payday is being able to transfer the regular £200 across to it & then add up the total in my Little Pink Book.

It's looking pretty tasty today; a total of £880.12p in there  I did wonder where on earth the 12p had come from but it turns out that when you have money in certain accounts, the bank pays you, who knew :rotfl:.

    Anyway Gas Fund = £ 200
    Electricity Fund = £ 200
Car Tax Fund = £ 120 - handy as that's due at the end of this month
    Car Repairs Fund = £ 80
    Presents Fund = £ 160 - keep forgetting it's there & using cash
    Slush Fund = £ 120

    As for the cash funds:

    DDs clubs & hobbies = £ 90
    Trips & Treats = £ 80

The Quidco drip fund bank account has about £100, I think & this is going towards refurbing DDs room in the summer.

Which brings me neatly on the my spend declarations for the day :

Trip to DIY store cost £45.09p & was actually hugely bargaious as for that I got 2 x big 5 lt tins of white paint ( decent Crown stuff on offer) & also a 2.5 lt tin of special bathroom paint (also on offer) & a new set of decent brushes + 3 rolls of maskng tape.

Oh dear, it's these kind of offers that explain why I have so many tins of paint in the house :o.

Niccatw - I could direct you towards my previous threads where you would discover that I have had 4 tins of paint sat in my bedroom for nearly 2 years now waiting for me to do something other than trip over them fairly regularly, so absolutely no need to feel ashamed at your own lack of decoration :D

I totally empathise with your procrastinating skills ;)

I now have enough paint to do all the ceilings - which I wont, because I HATE doing them - & also my room, the bathroom & the hallway. I also have all the equipment so can no longer make excuses about not having the money to buy the stuff :(. There's a flaw in that plan somwhere.

Next stop was the craft shop to buy a fab paper & cutting out clothes designing book for DD to keep her amused while I paint.

Then on the pet store to buy more kitty munch at £18 & then finally a trip to Waitrose for a few bits & £32 later, on the way home again.

The window cleaner has left me note & some very sparkly windows so I need to pay him on his return, but have decided on a new budget for groceries & household bits which will include window cleaning. I've set a monthly budget of £200 & am just going to have to learn to live within that sum _pale_.

As of tomorrow the total debt will be £4,600 & having spent a cheery half hour on the phone with a very patient Virgin Employee I am no longer locked out of my online account :j & just to show my appreciation I set up a minimum payment direct debit.

The clever ones among you may notice that the debt has crept up slightly but I have just 2 things to say about that :

    1) Nobody likes a smart @rse :p &

    2) I need a proper wardrobe, it's surprising just how many clothes one can get for £200

I've done the sums & to be DF by this time next year when the 0 % runs out, I need to be paying about £90 a week .

Will be spending the weekend covered in paint & dust, also need to get the laundry mountain dealt with, some serious decluttering done, do those schedules & the extra home-job stuff I agreed to take on. No gardening, allotmenteering or family duties for me.

I feel a glass of wine coming on ... :D

    Oh :( I ache in places I didnt knew I had .

Woke up at 4.30 am - definitely need to lay off the coffee but didnt get up til 7. Then started on the coffee & laundry mountain ...

Hung the washing out on the wine, instructing large clouds to wait until they were over the neighbours garden before leaking; their bonfire was still smouldering & smelling

Next step was finishing off removing all the carp from my room, why when the big stuff like wardrobes & chest & clothes have all gone, does it then take about another 2 hours to remove all the annoying bits & pieces ?

Decided that I might as well get on & remove the carpet today as well, a truly awfully gruesome & hideous job & yet again( as per removing the one in the living room last year) , I vow to never ever have carpets ever again. Thankfully the only one left in the house is the one in DDs room which will be going during the summer :). Since having a pet it has become even more clear that carpets are just nasty dirt & fluff traps.

No, you're absolutely right, I do not want to spend hundreds of pounds on a domestic appliance that will remove cat fluff when I can easily sweep it up, wash the floor then spend the remaining few hundred pounds on shoes, chocolate & wine :p

It is now done, & all I have to do is get a disguise & take it to the dump under cover of darkness. Yes, I am ashamed of it :o.

Anyway, I now have a lovely bright ceiling, lovely clean walls, skirting boards ( did briefly consider ripping them off & buying new ones - then remembered I am a tenant so just scraped, sanded & scrubbed & then repainted) & tomorrow I will have a freshly painted floor too.

The whole process took hours & hours - about 10 of them :( but the bed frame now has a top coat & looks fab, but of course I dont get to sleep in it tonight - I'm on the [STRIKE]torture[/STRIKE]sofa bed. The living room is full of clothes & shoes, I need to paint the floor tomorrow, still have to do laundry, home-work, schedules for Grumpy & put all furniture back too  Received online gas bill : £154, so have £46 left over which willbe saved towards next winter one.

Can hardly keep my eyes open, so going to crash now
