    Hmmm

I'm bored with all this snow now & it's affecting both my debt busting & my weight loss.

I've 'mislaid' an entire bottle of Baileys this week :o I've also lost 2 days wages unless I can make it up by the school being open again next week so I can do extra days.

DD is due to go away on a Brownies trip next weekend & I'm now wondering whether that is also in jeopardy due to weather.

It has been a NSD inspite of my haunting various online sales. NB - even if I were DF I wouldnt be buying from Laura Ashley, half price sale there means a 2 drawer console table at £600 . I really dont get the whole 'it's-branded-so-therefore-must-be-worth at least 3 times normal prices' thing

Anyone who doubts this view should go read 'No Logo' by Naomi Klein. It will hopefully open your eyes to many things.

I am a creature who is impressed by quality & value for money rather than labels & branding. My home job means that I come across a wide variety of textiles, fabrics, brands, labels etc & for the most part I can assure you that price/label/brand is absolutely no guarantee of either quality or value for money.

I have been housebound all day apart from a brief foray to take rubbish to the bins which are still waiting to be collected.

This weather is 2 weeks late & therefore I have no interest in it. DD has also lost interest in the snow & by 9.30 am had declared today a pyjama day.

We are bored & just want to get back to our normal lives.

DD1 is not happy either. All the trains she needes to get to work have been cancelled. She has no other way to get to work as all buses are also cancelled. She was told today that she must either pay £35 each way  to get a taxi to work or walk. She earns less than £50 per day & I forbade her to even attempt walking. I checked the rac routechecker & it is over 10 miles. Surely the NHS do not expect her to finish work at 9.30pm then walk 10 miles home in the dark on her own only to repeat the journey the next day

I understand that the staff who did get to work are tired & overworked but I really despair of an organization who expect their staff to work at a £20 a shift loss or risk exhaustion & hypothermia.

Is that really in the best interests of patients ?

I on the other hand, am capable of getting to work albeit slowly & cautiously but am unable to as the school which has all facilties in working order is closed, apparently for health & safety reasons .

The mp who was having a cosy family holiday while sending ill equipped soldiers to their death for a fake war now decides that this week is a good time to attempt to remove the party leader.

I despair of this country at times, I really do.

I'm with you Lula. My street has been like an ice rink for days, but on Tuesday it was all lovley and gritty for 'people going back to work'. GRRRRRRR. Rant, rage. We are not all desk bound, you idiots. I've been working right through as have folk who work in restaurants, doctors, nurses etc. Are my limbs not important. there's just this ridiculous assumption that we all do the same thing!!!!!!
I HATE that I can't buy booze after a certain time too. I am not a lout and if I want wine at 10.40pm why can't I be sold it. As a single gal I pay masses of council tax, huge rent and get NO help with anything!!!!!!!

It used to be that being branded meant better quality as they had a brand to protect. Now it's just a case of "the Chinese factory we buy from is better than the Chinese factories our competitors buy from."

It has become even worse with many classy brands going to the wall, and people buying their name, but not their (British) production facilities. Very expensive furniture is arriving from China with a leg missing and other such "issues".

Ironically, one of the best places if you want a good long life out of your furniture are antique shops. You know for a fact it has been put together well enough to last 150 years by virtue of being 150 years old...

Thank you Z for your input, Wol's right you know :A:D

Quite agree about the antiques & I think that I have consumed rather too much Baileys & also been watching daytime tv :o ( families emigrating to Oz etc ) Thing is that often the goods are made in the same factories, with workers not receiving higher pay for producing higher priced items. To my mind that makes the end consumer the mug

Dont get me started on Dyson who happily made his entire British workforce redundant in order to move his manufacturing abroad for the cheaper labour costs  I'd rather slit my throat & eat my liver than buy one of those :D

As for DD1's dilemma; it turns out that as all non emergency ops have been cancelled due to lack of staff; those willing staff with transport probs are being given overnight accommodation in the day wards ... hurray, common sense wins the day :).

I usually avoid news programmes other than newsnight but due to being housebound I have consumed far more tv than is good for me & am developing opinions . Will go back to watching Spongebob Squarepants instead :D

Yes. But the consumer is virtually always ripped off in this country. It is *so* difficult to find people to buy from you can trust.

He will reap as he sows. He has a lot of British families who would now never buy his cleaners. Henry Ford increased the wages of his workers so they could afford his cars...

    Unusually...

I avoid all news programmes. I dislike propaganda. If you want to know what is going on, watch Teletext. The amount of words they have available in order to tell you what's going on, means they are unable to foist their opinions/instructions on you. In the words of Sgt Joe Friday: "Just the facts ma'am..."

After that - read the internet. It's amazing what is going on, and the TV and newspapers never even breathe a word about it.

Wol's right in that you have an answer for everything :p:D

Enough of the multi quoting now, I have alcohol induced digitial dyslexia & cannot keep up :o

Brain definitely seeping somewhere, I have to confess to being fascinated by Heir Hunters though ... who knew that there was a local Empty Houses Officer on the prowl ?

I always believed that dying intestate meant your assets were immediately seized by Gordon & co. I was unaware that various firms of 'researchers & archivists' were competing to solve the mystery of the next of kin in order to reap their percentage of the inheritance. Blissfully unaware.

It's also a bit like a posthumous anti-celebrity show. (Am allergic to any form of progarmme with 'celebrity' in the title or anything on ITV)

If off next week too then I may need a large G&T for breakfast so that I can forget everything that I have seen :D

I agree with everything you have said Lula but that last bit, I really hadn't thought about it like that. I just ,sometimes when listening to the radio or reading a newspaper I am paralysed with fear at the possibility for disaster. Who are these people who run the country? What are they on? It really has gone completely bonkers. Which only adds to the urgency to pay off the damn debt and get the hell out of here. (haven't decided where too yet but far far away somehow!)

I was only going to say hello!

You and me both Lula. The whole bl**dy country has gone crazy. There is no room for common sense any longer, we are all ruled by regulations :mad::mad:

    Hello again all,

I am in much better humour today & have concluded that Buffy is indeed right & that we must clear our debts & run for the hills - somewhere warm & sunny :rotfl:

Also my rant may have been slightly hormone induced .

Anyway ... I was awoken by redelivery of gorgeous lingerie from figleaves. I love it, it all fits & although I am all snuggled up in cosy clothes, just knowing I have fab undies on makes me glow :D. I did remember to weigh myself this morning & it appears that I have lost 4lbs . I'm not quite sure how considering that bottle of Baileys that flung itself down my neck, so will double check again tomorrow morning.

With more snow on the way again tonight we though we'd better go out for supplies. a trip to the co op revealed no veg at all, no sliced type bread & no eggs. But they did have plenty of milk so I got another 6 pints to put in the freezer & they have an instore bakery so I got soe lovely rustic style bread & also a pack of pitta breads & some rolls incase DD goes back to school . Also got some more meat supplies, stock cubes, custard etc & the total spend was £14.58.

Next stop was the butchers & they had eggs a plenty & also some veg so I snaffled the last 3 leeks in the shop & a few more potatoes but wasnt allowed to get any more carrots or parsnips :( Total spend in there was £7.54.

Catapuss is not liking the snow much & is pretending he cant remember how to go outside so we also had to stock up on kitty litter in the pet shop; £7.80.

If you're thinking that Lula is very lucky to have all these local shops within walking distance, yes she is, which is why she continues to live here in spite of high cost of living. A visiting friend once described this village as a microcosm  . Sadly the bank went a long time ago but it is now a motoring shop where a pair of assets & fluttering eyelashes will make sure that not only do they sell you what you need for your car, but they will usually fit it for you too :D.

Moving on from my shameless use of feminine wiles ... DD1 has called for help. She finished her shift at 11.30 last night & was given a bed in a ward, only to be woken up to stat another shift at 6.30. She was not allowed to use the shower for reasons of 'infection' & was also expected to work until 9.30 tonight . She claimed that she didnt think this would be safe so is allowed to finish at 4 instead & then fortuantely has 2 days off. This could be very handy if I want to work on monday & the school is still closed ;). I have to go collect her & am not looking forward to it as the route is across the common so proably not very clear of snow .

Will remember to take torch, spade, blankets, flask of [STRIKE]disaronno [/STRIKE]something hot & mobile phone.

DD is now tucking into the latest vat of leek & potato soup & has decreed that poppy seeds are in fact edible & quite nice .

Off to take all peelings to compost bin & then brace self for maneouvering car out of garage again.
