    Scotty,

Try a star chart (make it for wees in the loo, so he earns anyway, and also for poohs).

Have you got one of those seaty things for him to sit on on the toilet so he doesn't worry that he will fall in? And a step so he doesn't feel 'stranded'? (He may not like potty if you have praised him about being a big boy for the loo weeing?)

If this is not good advice, then please ignore - my DS is 12 now so it has been a while!

My almost 9 year old still wears pull-ups for bed. She has been attending bedwetting clinic for months.. TBH it has been a complete waste of time.

Things to avoid.. fizzy drinks and blackcurrant squash.. they advised just clear drinks after about 4pm. Tea/coffee (not that I would dream of giving these to a child of this age anyway) Fresh citrus juice can irritate the bladder too.

Mine has a slightly small bladder capacity and they think maybe a problem with the diuretic hormone still being produced in large quantities at night. It is worth a referral just to make sure these are not an issue but they won't do anything about it until they are around 7 anyway. Mine had a referral at about 6.5 as she had recurrent severe bouts of cystitis.

At 5 it is quite normal to still wet the bed and if you and she are happy with her wearing pull-ups then don't make her feel bad about it. the alternative is wet beds, sore bottoms, wrecked mattresses and disturbed sleep.

((hugs)) it is a real drain, I know!!

My other children were competely dry by about 3 aside from DD and DS3 who was 6.5 before he was dry at night.

DS3 had washable nappies at night but he wet so very heavily they were so packed with padding they took forever to dry and I didn't find them particularly good. Huggies do pullups to fit up to age 10 but my daughter still fits in the tesco 35lbs+ pullups which are ok.. and a touch cheaper.

  • Hi, I need some advice as despite having 4 children ive never had to go through this before.

My DD aged 5 (6 nxt month) has just starting wetting the bed and im really worried.
She has been using the toilet since 3yrs old and has never had an accident at all.

Its not every night, about once a week.

Ive spoken to her today and asked her if anything is bothering her. She got quite upset and said she didnt want to go into a new class, and that she wasnt going to be with her old friends. Ive reassured her on that one and asked if thats why she had wet the bed. She said No.
So i asked if she'd been having bad dreams and she said yes, and thats why she wet the bed.
She said the dreams were about monsters.

Now, im not sure what to do? Ive reassured her no-one can hurt her in her dreams and that she is perfectly safe.

What else do i do?? Thanks in advance

Its always worth checking that there isnt a urinary infection with children who suddenly start wetting the bed. But,She may be wetting the bed because of her anxieties with starting a new class, but not be aware that thats why.iyswim. I personally would get her checked at the doctors and if thats clear give her a few weeks to settle into school . .Hope she settles quickly when she returns back to school. I have a 6 year old that hates changes but fortunately he doesnt wet the bed, he just doesnt sleep well .

  • Thankyou Elaine.
She is a sensitive little girl and is not keen on change at all. Before the summer holidays she absolutely loved school so i guess i kind of presumed she would be looking forward to going back.
I will make app at docs for tomorrow and rule out infection (which im sure it isnt)

    Poor little thing!

As long as it's not an infection I'd say she's just feeling unsettled. Whether it is the new school term or monsters, she probably isn't sure herself. I hope she settles down quickly, and I'm sure the bed wetting will stop as quickly as it started. Lots of tlc and extra cuddles.

My friends son (6) has had a few accidents in the last couple of weeks, and it turns out some older friends were telling ghost stories and he was too terrified to get out of bed!!
