Mwahahahaha! It's not that exciting, but involves a decision about buying a pair of boots: a true moral dilemma!

How much was it? If you (or parents) don't have one, I would recommend one, but you can also get ones with lots of other attachments which may/may not be worth considering depending on how much you would use it.Please call me 'Pickle'

I caved in a bought it just now because I was informed that our normal blender doesn't work any more. It's a philips one, had really good reviews and is quite powerful. Comes with a jug and a chopper attachment and I'm getting the whisking one as well for £25. Not bad I thought.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170

OK, so here's the full confession:
1) Started the day off by spending £2.99 at Millie's muffins after arriving at work first (now there's a miracle!), and needing some wake-up coffee and well, it's a physical impossibility to say no to their muffins. I had a 'buy one combo get another combo free' coupon, so I actually got a moccha with marshmallows (yum!), a small bottle of coke and two double chocolate muffins for that price. (Don't worry, only one was consumed by me.) That was both MSE and not very MSE, with the emphasis being on the negative, I think.(Note to self: need to make point of going to bed earlier as this staying up is costing £ in the stimulant department.)
2) Most MSE moment of the day: I work near a branch of Debenhams and I had a peek in there during the sales to see it there was anything worth seeing. I saw some Wallace and Gromit parephernalia (I'm a massive fan!) and there were two nice W&G mugs hideously overpriced at originally £6 a piece. Now I must admit that I don't need them, but the thought of sipping out of a W&G mug is enough to make Pickle's under-matured little heart to skip a beat, so I told myself that I could have them if I hadn't bought anything else ludicrous in the sales and they had gone down to a reasonable price. They went down to £3, but Pickle knows the world of retail fairly well and was happy to guess that they would go down a bit more as there were loads of them and they were unlikely to sell out in such a large quanitity. Pickle popped back into Debenhams after work tonight only to find that her mugs had gone down to £1.80 each, so she is now the proud and unrepentant owner of two fine W&G mugs.
3) Oh dear, here is where the problem really starts.As you already know,. I work in a shoe shop. And it's the sales. And I get 2 purchases at 50% off every season and I have been good and used up neither so far since I started working there. I have plans for one (a pair of uber-expensive specialised shoes which will cost me £80 at half price and that I would have a hard time ever buying without the discount), and another, for whatever I would like. Well, today I was trying on a few boots etc. (like you do, to know how they fit etc. for customers, and also for a bit of a nosy yourself) when I tried on a pretty boot that I would never have thought fit and it did. Shock horror! And it looked really nice. And now I want it, and it's still over £70 even with my 50% dicount, and this is all made oh-so much worse by the fact that I have big and wide feet and never, ever get any boots that fit me at all, and now I can't afford any, I've found some. And they are here at home with me (not bought - we have a system where you can sign for a pair of shoes and take them home then take them back or pay for them later depending on your decision). Pickle wants the preciouses! Pickle oh, ok, doesn't NEED the preciouses (not in a 'life or death' way but more in a 'oh aren't they luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurvely' kind of way). Admittedly they are snug on her right foot (but everything is as it's her bigger foot), but they are leather and they will give. ARGH! :eek:
Pickle is going to have to give them back, isn't she?:rolleyes:

Oh Pickle, the boot dilemma, I would have them and penny pinch elsewhere. But then I have ridiculously wide feet and calves and to find a pair of boots that fit would be a miracle. If you have room in the budget to get them and shave some money from elsewhere then I'd say get them...Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170

Oh Ruby, this just goes to reinforce what I said on your thread about us being twins in spirit -I have the same foot and calf problem.The thing is, I'm not sure that I do. I don't know how much I'm going to get paid this month (I never do until just before I am as it's a strange and complicated working out.) and I have myriad expenses this month, including that blummin' nail course I'm going to do. The boots are calf length, not full length, which is what I would prefer, but they are still gorgeous. They are brown with black on (that kind of 'lived in' look). My main worry is that the right foot is very snug and even though I know that leather will give, the main problem with them is the heel which is very strong leather. I can see blisters there, it it doesn't give. They are snug at the front, but I'm fairly certain that the will give there. The only other thing is that they also come in black and part of me would prefer the black as I know I could wear them with anything, but I do like the brown ones very much indeed. If I bought them, would I wear them? I mean, I know I would wear them, but would I wear them enough to justify the expense? I think I would, but then maybe I wouldn't if the heel didn't give enough. I should know this, given my day job, but I'm worried I'm trying to talk myself into something I shouldn't as I know that I was looking at a pair of waterproof boots before Christmas which I didn't buy, and was glad not to have done when I found my waterproof ones in the attic (one of which has turned a funny colour today, coincidentally.
). The boots are lovely, fashionable and all the things my footwear normally isn't, but am I trying to convince myself too hard?
Help!
Oh, forgot to metion, was thinking of ordering black ones in from another store but don't like them as much, but think I could wear the brown ones with either due to the black that's also on them.Please call me 'Pickle'

I wasn't aware you worked in a shoe shop Pickle - shows how awake I've been since I started reading your thread (in general, not because of the thread!)
As a man, I don't really get the charms of shopping or clothes as much as my GF assures me ladies do. For that reason, I'll not try and sway you one way or the other!
One question though - do you have a clothes budget? I'm actually in a not entirely different situation myself, as I've looking to spend £80 on footwear too (a pair of super comfy running shoes that help with my over pronation and stop me injuring myself). I'm allowed £40 a month for clothes, so will have to save up for a few months to get them. If you do similar/did similar, would there be any way you could have the boots set aside and then buy them in a couple of months at the sale price? I realise this may not be possible/desireable, just a thought...0 -

No, I don't have a clothes budget at the minute, but this doesn't worry me unduly as there's very little I need to buy (I worked in a very, very nice ladies clothes shop before the shoe shop and bought tons of stuff at a massive discount), so it hasn't really been an issue. I only need things every now and again, and TBH honest, I probably don't really 'need' these boots, nice as they are, but I have two 50% discounts to use before the end of January as one of the few benefits of such a low-paid job and it seems a pity to waste them. I'm not working today so I will think it over. Once I'm solvent again, I will start putting a clothing budget together, but as I said, it hasn't been too much of an issue up til now: most girls would kill for the stupid amount of clothes I own.Please call me 'Pickle'
