Been having a serious think about presents. I'm generally a generous person with my friends, but am thinking that I have to learn to not be over-generous.
Firstly, the other day I bought a beautiful scrap book for a friend. We don't normally do birthday and Christmas presents, but I'm half-afraid that she is going to surprise me this year. It's a semi-founded fear, but I can't affound to think like that. The present hardly cost anything, but it's still money I can't afford so I'm going to return it.
Secondly, I'm going to stay for two days at the house of a pregnant friend. Her babies are due soon so I'm bringing her down their birth/christening present then. I'm also bringing a box of chocolates to some neighbours of her parents (family friends) as a thank you for putting me up for a ngiht when she got married. (I never had the opportunity to get them anything at the time as I didn't knoiw I would be staying with them.) My friend, who for compicated reasons has decided to stay at her parents house, and therefore so will I. But now I've started to think that it will look bad if I bring a box of choclates for the neighbours and not her parents. I'm only staying one night, and I had arranged to stay at my friends' with her. I am now thinking it would look bad if I turn up with a box of chocolates for the neighbours and not her parents. I would hate to be considered ill-mannered, but surely this is just going too far? I have a present for the babies, a thank you for the neighbour. Argh!!!! Am I paranoid, or not?!Can't afford to just buy presents willy-nilly.

Hmm..having a  few days. *Cue violins*
Have had 2 very rubbish days at work, have another one tomorrow before finally having Tuesday off. Finances are up the wall, eating healthily is up the wall, have bene so busy I haven't had the chance to fill out my applications forms for my French uni which arrived one WEEK ago :eek: (I simply have to do that tonight). Might try to do a bit on my finances as well. Grr...what a rubbish time!
Anyway, have just watched a simply adorable episode of Timmy Time on BBC iPlayer which has just cheered me up no end.If only real life were quite so easy!
Whinge over...sorry. Will come back and report better tidings when they occur. Please call me 'Pickle'

 ARGH!
I just want to scream!
Am sat (finally) filling out another set of bloody application forms for France. Admittedly, they arrived last Saturday, but I've been working such a stupid amount of hours that I've not had the chance to fill them in. Anyway, I just checked my e-mail account and I've just got another e-mail from the head of department in France saying that I CAN'T sign up again. I'm 99.9% certain that my dissertation supervisor has been in and spoken to her as I left her an answerphone message telling her that I contaced her (as mutually agreed) and I am SURE she has thrown a spanner in the works as she doesn't want anything more to do with me.
Blooody hell, what ELSE can go wrong?! I don't think I can argue this any longer and win. :mad:Please call me 'Pickle'

OK, so first........scream. Get it out of your system. Then grab a drink (alcoholic, or tea/coffee, whatever) and a pad of paper and start brainstorming what you can do, who you can contact, what you have already tried, etc. Hopefully your brain will drift to a "new" solution, and ignite the fighting spark.
Good luck, I don't know what else to suggest, I'm afraid.
Bon chance.....xSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Hiya In a Pickle!
Perservere I would. This is your future and you need to get it sorted. One person can surely not stop you from achieving what you have your heart set on, and what you are working so hard to achieve. Try not to panic - which as you know I never do!!! (Joke!) Hope you next entry has some good news.My debts at LBM (2009)Grand Total £161,983.77.(Incs everything, mtge, cr cards, loans)
May 2013 £124,080.27= £37,903.50 paid off WOW!!!!! Well done! There is a guardian angel out there! :AI'm visualising success, debt freeness, and happy days!:T0 -
OK, I think it's over. Well and truly this time. I've just sent one last e-mail thanking the lady who has been trying to get a few things sorted for me, and also clarifying some points that she doesn't seem to have got quite right. However, I don't think that having clarified them for her is likely to make her reassess the whole situation, so I've clarified what needs to be clarified as succinctly as possible and thanked her in as dignified a manner as possible.
So what now?
Well, firstly, as much as this has been a waste of my time, my French is definitely better than it was before taking the course on board. Also, due to personal circumstances being what they have been this past year or so, it hasn't left me with an inexplicable gap on my CV which potential employers would have picked up on, so I have to be thankful there.
Also, never one to miss an opportunity to learn something new, I've spent some of today trying to wheedle my way onto a reflexology course: it's something I've always wanted to do, but there hasn't really been the time to do so while in full-time education. I probably would have left it until next year if the Masters was to be finished, and it has caused me to miss the start of the academic year, so I'm not sure that my chances of getting on are good, but I'm waiting for a phone call to see if there are any places left. Fingers crossed!
Also, I need to get my career sorted. Work experience here I come...I should (hopefully) be able to keep on my current job on, working different hours to pay the bills while I do it.
Also, now I get the chance to Ebay all the junk in my room properly. I might have standing space soon! This will help with the debt-busting.
As well, I finally get the chance to order my CD collection, and stick all my photos in photo albums. These may seem like small tasks to anyone else, but if you saw how many CDs and photos I have, you would understand that it is not!
Right, first things first: shower, visit great-aunt for her birthday, room tidy.
Ooh, I have to finish my Pratchett book as well! Please call me 'Pickle'

P.S. Forgot to mention that I returned one of the scrap books about a week ago.
Also, am going to be making soda bread and Christmas cakes with my mum this week. Am hoping to make the bread a regular thing. Need to learn how to make regular bread as well, but it will be after the soda variety. Please call me 'Pickle'
