I have the original Internet Channel from a couple of years ago and due to not being able to remove the Wii bar at the bottom of the screen (took me ages to find this out!) I couldn't use iPlayer. Basically, I was unable to get to the functions of iPlayer, including full screen which is essential on a TV, even one as big as mine.
Aside from those with existing iPlayer problems, does anyone else have any issues with this Internet Channel now and using iPlayer?
As I have the original, do I have to get rid and re-install?

Seems that anyone who has upgraded the player is having the issue, but people who took advantage of the free install(i.e. had not had it before), are not having problems. The BBC are now aware of the issue.

    That's useful to know.
I shall try and remove the original and install the 'new' one.
  • this would be great for me but for some reason i cannot connect my wii the the internet, it used to work but now has stopped

You might risk your 500 point game if you do that though, I'm not sure (unless you got Internet Channel free before that month in 2007 when they started charging for it).

yes i forgot about that. I also updated the firmware prior to the install.
I wonder if thats why it does not work?

  • Thanks for the tip.

I had never even tried downloading other channels. I only used the discs I had bought. So this was useful information for me. For those of you who do not know how to get this free internet channel. You need to make sure you have either a wired or a wireless connection to the internet via your Internet service provider and then go to the wii system settings 2 page. Click on the third option called Internet, then connection settings, connnection 1. Now choose whether you want to use a wireless or wired connection. If you choose a wireless connection, you can then ask it to search for an access point. It will then show you all the wifi spots available, choose your own wireless access point, and if it is a secured wifi connection, you will need to enter a WEP key. If you have chosen a wired connection, it will check to see if there is a wired connection to the wii console.

To download the free wii internet channel, you will need to click on the wii shop channel. If this is your first time on the wii shop channel, you may need to read and agree to the terms and conditions. After a short delay, you will be connected. Now click on start shopping, then wii channels. A list of available wii channels will appear together with the number of points required. Click on the the Internet channel and follow the instructions give.

My opinion - as a freebie the wii Internet channel is great, but it is a little slow and not as convenient as using my laptop. As to watching BBC i player, it is faster and easier again via the laptop, or even via Virgin's tv-on-demand service.

Thanks for the tip - I will now see what other free channels I can download! :T

Me too. Mine was a free install 2 days ago, and I couldn't get anything to play either - just got the whirly circle thing.
