If you do a search on Amazon, you can buy some keyboards that will work on the Wii.

I use a standard USB pc keyboard. You can buy wireless ones quite cheap aswell.

Basically before this update the Internet Channel used Flash 7 and as such the BBC had to convert its content which is in either Flash 9 or 10 (I forget) to this format to make it playable (though the picture was a bit Windows 98). Now the Flash player's been updated to Flash Lite 3.1 which effectively makes it compatable with Flash 9. However, I looked through the Flash Lite FAQs yesterday (I can't be bothered finding them now!) and it said something like the individual websites need to licence their page for the content to work with this format. I guess this is why the only Flash content that I seem to be able to get now that the update has happened is YouTube XL which continues to function, they must have updated their licence or something!

So it probably means we'll have to wait a few more days before the BBC, C4 and others realise they need to do something in order to make it work.

And before you ask, ITV's player uses 'Silverlight' so don't expect that to work on the Wii anytime soon!

Take most of what you've read above with a pinch of salt as I'm interpreting a small paragraph on an FAQ page!

Sussed it now. In case anyone else is as thick as me you have to go to WiiShop and then Channels and download it there.

Now I just have to get myself a keyboard using the Wii remote is impossible!
    Cheers.

Excellent news that the internet channel is now free. I had to scrounge the points a few months ago to buy it, but at least will get a 'refund' or a download instead.

BBC iPlayer certainly used to work - I had watched a number of programmes on it, but it does not seem to work now ?

As far as keyboards are concerned, I use a normal USB wired keyboard (you can get one online etc for £3.00) and a 2m long USB extension cable, (in white even !) bought from Poundland (for £1.00 ...) - it works fine.

Just a shame you cannot use a mouse - maybe the next enhancement Nntendo, please ?

Ever since the BBC set up the iPlayer to work effectively with the Wii, the BBC has been campaigning for Nintendo to make the internet channel free on the Wii. So thanks to the BBC, who's campaigning has obviously worked!

There's obviously a slight glitch as Flash has been updated (seems like we get an update every other week at the moment!), but be patient, it will work - and if you've got a good enough internet connection it looks great.

  • Set mine up last night works a treat. i player takes some time to load but with a bit of patience does work. Tried demand 5 but successfully failed not enough bit in the wii perhaps? Any ideas? Thakns for the original post can no catch up on the series of New Tricks I'd missed while on holiday.

Seems that anyone who has upgraded the player is having the issue, but people who took advantage of the free install(i.e. had not had it before), are not having problems. The BBC are now aware of the issue.
