Wow glad I googling about Beamont legal and found this thread.... I think ill research a bit more on who to go with now considering all the bad talk on here.

Beamont seem to get glowing reviews and top marks and I see articles suggesting they are hiring 35 more people since they are the highest and most recommended company, scooping awards etc

But obviously and perhaps not !

Think ill make a new thread on top conveyancers to use
  • Wow I wish I'd seen this thread sooner. We are having a nightmare with this company, and our solicitor is an absolute liability. Never responds to emails and clearly tells lies when he hasn't done something he should've. Instructed in September should have exchanged within 6 weeks but now we're told it won't be until after Xmas now. Avoid!

  • I am currently selling my house to a 1st time buyer who are using Beaumont Legal. A very straightforward sale - should have taken 6weeks max. Beaumont have lied about not receiving information back from my solicitor, the purchasers have been chasing them daily and they get no where. At the very last hurdle the solicitor has raised queries that were dealt with weeks ago.

The purchasers want to move in desperately, our solicitor is quick to respond and offers evidence of them going back to them - so there is no doubt that Beaumont are the weak link. I will be submitting a complaint to the Law Society.

If you are considering using Beaumont please please please pay a bit more for a good quality service. I hope this feedback is useful to someone out there.
  • Avoid this firm. They are a complete shambles. They did NOTHING for 2 weeks and only got going when we complained to the Business Development manager - the staff supposidly handling our purchase just fobbed us off and one was actually offended when I questionned why they hadn't done anything.

But we'd had enough by then and cancelled our contract. They refunded some of our up front payment (as they are a no-win, no-fee outfit) but hung on to what they said were the search fees, even though no searches have been provided. We are going to try to get that money back - we live in hope. They then ignored our request for clarification as to whether the searches had actually been commisioned and if so, confirmation that they would send them to us (as they are my property).

After we cancelled, they sent the most astonishing lengthy email, which in what can only be described as bullying language, they repeatidly asked us to agree to pay further money for a flood search, because, apparently, the searches (which they claimed hadn't actually been done) had shown the house to be in a flood risk area. This was something of a surprise, as the house is on a hill a long way from any rivers. A quick check of the Environment Agency website confirmed that the house was nowhere near a flood zone. This appears to be just a con to try to extract more money from us.

We should have checked the reviews first before using this lot. They are very clever in making sure their name comes up in internet searches and then drawing you in with low cost fees. They say on their website that they put the customer first. Then you get lots of emails and paperwork which makes then sound very professinal and customer focused. Then, nothing happens.

Our advice, get a personal reputation, use a local firm and don't expect to get a decent service on the cheap.
  • Thanks NewForestJB - useful feedback. Are you abke to let us know who you used as your solicitor please?
  • i spend 4 months and send many documents but they still say they cant verify who I am !. after 4 months of waiting.

so the deal to purchase the house was cancelled.

but I asked another lawyer to take the deal and we completed it in less than 3 month and there was no problem.

so if you are not UK resident, its better not to work with Beaumont when you want to buy in UK

This is an up to date posting ie 2015 for feedback on beaumonts. I would agree - don't use. It bothers me to say that - as i have used them previously and i used them previously because they were good at what they did ... but i think the outfit has got too big for its boots and is now the worst conveyancing i have ever experienced. They treat the process like a tick box exercise and seem to forget there are people's lives involved - and a lot of money. They definitely do not respond to emails and when you do manage to speak to them they have a very laid back lassez faire attitude. They have taken about 6 weeks to chase up an electrical installation certificate (still no sign of it), and currently 2+ weeks to answer the other queries that were thrown up by the searches. Our buyer is currently threatening to pull out. Neither us nor he is in a chain and there is no end in sight at the moment. Last night i requested a copy of the their complaints procedure and we will be putting in an official complaint to the Legal Ombudsman. Their bold statement about having 200 years of experience amounts to nothing right now. Oh and our solicitor is now off sick..... so somebody else has picked up our case and is trying to make sense of it... we might get moved in by christmas at this rate. Somebody else mentioned that they don't feel valued and that is spot on - we feel we are on a conveyancing conveyor belt and we will be 'seen to' the next time we pass by a beaumonts solicitor who might or might not be bothered.
