We are about to complete on our purchase tomorrow - our solicitor who I will not name but those of you who have been with Beaumont legal may know of has not been helpful at all.
He is very blunt and seems like he can't be bothered to speak to you when you ring to ask a question. If you email instead with a few questions you get a one sentance reply.

I think you are probably dealing with the same guy I am dealing with. I too get no replies to queries, I'm convinced the guy doesn't exist, I've had ONE phone convo with him in nearly 3 months. All other times I get a young assistant who probably isn't paid enough to give a crap about my sale. 2-line impersonal emails, utterly useless. I am also in a no-chain sale and so far it's been over 2 months and I'm still being messed around by my buyers and it seems that between them, their conveyancers, and Beaumont each time I'm told different reasons for the delay.

I was also charged MORE than what the original "you will not pay more than this figure" web quote. Read the small print very carefully, but you only do this AFTER you've signed up and the small print gets posted. BL shout about the "no hidden extras" but the small print LISTS all the extra charges you are potentially liable for, and then says "we don't consider these hidden charges as we've explained them in the small print". Very crafty.

I'm paying my penance and getting what I paid for. DO NOT be fooled by a cheap quote, pay more elsewhere and get a better and more personal, efficient service than these muppets will ever be able to provide.
  • I have been totally amazed at the comments on this website regarding Beaumont. I, my family and friends have been using the firm for many, many years, and I would never consider moving to another. The solicitor mentioned is friendly, understanding, efficient and has broken his back on many occasions, sorting out problems, for us. Everyone I have ever recommended to go to this firm, even for a single sale/purchase have never been disappointed and have always had positive things to say. I say give them a try you won't be disappointed, you can't always make everyone happy, but only try. These guys continuously exceed my expectations ... and no I don't work for them nor paid to write this, but a satisfied client!

I'm sorry but this doesnt really ring true.

There are numerous complaints about these solicitors and you, as a newbie, have resurrected an old thread just to say how good they are?

All you've done by posting is given us all a reminder not to use them!

    Thanks for that

Seconded, if ever there was a post that screamed "do not use Abode and Beaumont Legal" then that was it!

    Dont' use Beamont Legal!!!

This firm is a biggest bunch of idiots i have ever used.
They never answer the phone. You leave a message which is ignored. They dont reply to emails either.
We instrcuted them over four months ago to buy a house which is empty with no chain. Its now just over a week before Christmas and want us to complete on the 22nd Dec!
They lie to you saying they are still waiting for documents from the other side when infact they were sent them several weeks previous.

House moving is stressfull enough without these muppets added to it!
    AVOID!

Please pay attention to this posting, DO NOT USE BEAUMONT LEGAL, we are using them and have made a HUGE MISTAKE. We sold our house in March 2010 and it should have been a straight forward transaction, we pulled out all the stops and got finance and what we thought all the legal’s sorted out for an exchange in early May 2010. We are still waiting to exchange, after many, many dates offered and past, generally caused by BL not passing on information to be answered, we have to phone to find out what needs doing, don’t think they’ll phone you anytime soon, let alone write to you and inform you, you’ll need to chase every step of the way, that is when months pass and you don’t hear anything from them and the penny drops after you have paid your £300 on account. It is now mid JULY 2010, we are no closer to exchanging, we have done everything humanly possible to help and get whatever we fond out needs doing, and only seem to be chasing our tails and getting no returned mails/calls with no end insight, in fact we have learned that conveyancing is not the mystical legal world that thou shalt not enter and organisations such as Land Registry and the local council are genuine, happy to help and accurate in what they ask for, we would have been quicker doing our own conveyancing we wish now we had. We find none of our emails are answered, messages are not returned from voice mail and IF you do get the phone answered be prepared to speak to nice but can't help you’ll need to speak to your illusive solicitor as I don’t know anything about anything and I'll take a message and we promise will not get back to you. This company have been VERY rude to everybody involved with the sale of three houses (yes, only three people) they have offended and let down the Estate Agents, the other solicitors involved in the sale and everybody has remarked on how obstructive and difficult they have found them to be, we have complained about the service with reasonable evidence to support our complaint and our case, we have had even worse service and it appears our case has now been thrown in the corner to gather dust, these people mess with your lives! We have had complaints from our buyers solicitor to us about Beaumont Legal, so please think how bad the service (is/truly can be, if they are complaining) I am glad to say we have a good relationship with buyers and sellers (we are in the middle) and this is the only thing to date that has kept the chain together, and united as we are, not one of us have a good word or recommendation for BEAUMONT LEGAL, if we had relied solely on Beaumont Legal’s rude staff and our solicitor Mr Alan Marlow, our chain would have collapsed long ago. We have been charged unscrupulously for work that could not be knowingly completed and now we have found today Marlow wants even more money to redraft the sales contracts, as he failed to take note of simple things we wrote and told him about before the contracts where drawn up relating to the property, he has failed to read any documentation sent to him and been very slow in returning/creating documents and he is very keen to blame the delay on others when we know for a fact he has them in his ownership, we have found them to shirk responsibility. Don't make the mistake of thinking they will make this a smooth move for you and that you could trust them not overcharge and they offer you the best advice in YOUR interests, don't make the mistake of thinking you can leave them to sort any legal issues out, I thought that is exactly what conveyancers do, don’t they?, because if you really do want to sell your house, you will be left with all the leg work and peace keeping. We would like to change solicitors and IF WE could be guaranteed we wouldn’t get this treatment elsewhere we would move in a flash and if you could get us moved within the next four weeks, please feel free to offer advice or your services. Don’t USE BEAUMONT LEGAL, try pot luck, as I can't see that you could ever possibly receive any worse service than this company purports to offer from any other solicitor you may pick at random, they are slow to the point of not moving, they lie about work they have done and admit to it when you tell them you are coming in to see the file that afternoon, they are difficult and only pose problems with no solution, that you’ll be left to solve. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT USE BEAUMONT LEGAL, you will not save money, reduce your stress level or even have a buyer or seller to move onto, don’t say you have not been warned.

Ever-devote, please help us, you seem to be our only hope, who do you use at beaumont legal, maybe we can transfer our case over, all is not lost.

Wow, I would you like you to contact Beaumont Legal on our behalf and wave a magic wand and help us sell and buy our property, as you sound like you must have some experience of whom to deal with here. I really would like to be writing such a positive review as you have, but as others have found to their detriment, the service we have recieved from Beaumont Legal in WAKEFIELD (and I am assuming you are refering to the same) is nothing like you have reported. I wouldn't allow this company to list and handle an ebay sale now, let alone the most valuable possession I own. WE HAVE MADE THE BIGGEST MISTAKE OF OUR LIVES TO DATE USING BEAUMONT LEGAL, DO NOT USE THEM PLEASE.

I will agree to this statement, we have Alan Marlow handling our case and he could be the chap you are refering to in these posting easily. Thank heavens we are not alone in the poor service, you can get so you think it is you being an awful client.......I am sure now we have done everything to help this man to no avail. Horrible.

Beaumont Legal were excellent in my experience - as some of Richard Webster's posts say they are registered with the Law Society and don't need to be on Companies House. It seems that some people posting feedback try to get too involved.

If you want a Rolls Royce service and wish for your e-mails to be replied to instantly then perhaps paying an hourly rate would work - alternatively, I got the Rolls Royce service from Beaumont Legal by trusting them and letting them get on with their job

The only 2 posts you have listed are in praise of Beaumont Legal.

    I can only assume that

    a) you work for them / are a partner

    b) your life revolves around them

You actually do further damage to their reputation (which appears bad enough already) by joining and trying to defend them.

Having just completed a house puchase using Beaumont, can only echo the bad press they're getting here. I used them because they were cheap and the transaction was straightforward. But I woudl never use them again and would not recommend them. I wasn't looking to have my hand held, but I was expecting to get reasonable customer service. I sent them two letters, neither of which were answered [one poinint out that they had the purchase price wrong by £500 on the completion statment, meaning they had to take £500 from my Switch card on the day of completion...

I never once managed to speak to Alan Marlow, my assigned solicitor. My two phone calls [which were necessary, not of the 'what's happening?' variety] were answered grudgingly to the point of rudeness. Cheap, but definitely not cheerful.
