I wore one in 1984, but only in the hospital after giving birth. By the time I had my next baby in 1988 you weren't asked to take them into hospital with you. Enemas and shaving were also routine in 1984 but had been phased out by 1988. Sounds like it was way back in the dark ages!

That's all we had when I started, back in the swinging 60s I guess. I mean, there WERE tampons, but 'nice' girls didn't use them, at least not at my boarding school ...OMG, just googled sanitary belt... never seen one of those before, they look terrifying!!!!! When were they around? :rotfl:
ETA we also used to have to battle against suspender belts. Tights were a VERY new invention.
So there would be belt for ST, belt for suspenders, large white baggy cotton 'linings' or under knickers, and even larger baggier navy blue over knickers for games. Of course you'd take your stockings off for games. I think we used to wear our blues all through the winter though. Our modesty was assured at all times. :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Never in a million years would I have believed then that it would become fashionable to have a thong showing ![/QUOTE]

Well I 'started' aged 11 so that would have been 1972 , sticky back things came in quite soon but it was a matter of persauding my mother they were a good idea!
As Savvy Sue says tampons were around but my mother was convinced I wouldn't be able to use them until after I was married !! After we had a talk from the school nurse I managed to convince her that it WAS possible and they wouldn't ruin my precious virginity!!
Panty liners or mini pads were invented in mid to end seventies I thought they were wonderful as even then I had embarrassing midcycle bleeding due to gynae problems.
Wow things were different then!Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
I now live in sunny Birmingham but I'm American. I've never used pantyliners for non-menstrual purposes but they are definitely more heavily marketed in America (as are many things, though).
The love dribble is not TMI and is definitely real! Does anyone else also find that bathwater gets all up in there of its own volition and then sometimes emerges later?0 -
Ladies - im 25 and i wore a sanitary belt TWO years ago when i was pregnant - Boots stock them, Dr something or other?
You should of seen my face when my mum showed me the belt - OH MY GOD!!!
I get normal discharge and became allergic to the "plastic" in normal liners so needed to wear the "old" belted ones :rotfl:0 -

:rotfl:Ive always kept this fact to myself until recently! I was swimming with a friend whos only 21 and she just says exactly what she thinks. She suddenly blurted out "dont you just hate it when you get out the bath or the pool and the water suddenly pours out later on, as if you've wet yourself". I was creased with laughter but had to agree that on occassion it does happen! Glad Im not alone, thats at LEAST 3 people in the world with the same problem;).:rotfl:0
