  • I use the 'value' range of liners, very cheap and no problems with wandering - I wear close fitting short type pants;) I wear them from a few days before I'm due on, to a couple of days after I finish - just in case.

It's strange mentioning underwear as I would really like some silk ones even though cotton is supposed to be best.
My silk ones have a cotton gusset. New Zealand Nature.

I use PLs every day. Keep wondering about the re-usables, not sure what the boys would make of them hanging up to dry!

  • As a midwife I tend to see some quite intimate things...... and some people cut their liners or ST's in half to make two shorter towels . Wouldn't work for me but it obviously does for some !!

When I had my first baby I had to take a sanitary belt and looped towels to the hospital. I didn't know what to do with them at first! Worked quite well though. Mind you, never worn them since. They seemed to have been phased out by the time I had my second. It was easy for the midwife to unhook the front and have a look at your stitches. Makes me sound ancient. I'm 41 so wasn't 50 years ago or anything. :p

 oh yes, sanitary belts ... you youngsters don't know WHAT you are missing! :rotfl:

Although when I had DS1, which is 22 years ago, I took stick ons inside paper pants. Not a wonderful combination, because paper pants, as you may or may not know, have little holes in them so your nightie sticks to the pad as well! :rotfl:

    I've been Money Tipped!
re sanitary belts I have recently seen them (for the first time) locally in pharmacies. I thought it was a bit odd to be revisiting this sort of thing....would, or could, the ladies who have used them suggest a reason this might be a preferable method of ''sanitary protection''?

I only used them because they were on my list of things to take into hospital with me (that's my excuse!)

Well they were long (and thick. Like soft bricks!!) They were quite good and stemming the flow. And as I said, easy access for the midwife. Sometimes sticky pads (especially cheap ones) don't stick very well.

No idea why someone would use them any other time though.

I was Googling sanitary belts and there's an actual 'museum of menstruation' (MUM for short) :rotfl:
  • Wow I didn't know you could get washable pads/liners and in such funky colours and designs too! I have a mooncup but have never used it as I rarely have a period! When I do as it is so light I use pant liners, both thong and normal ones, have slso used them n occasions for the 'next day dribbles!'
  • Oh now I recall the embarrassing problem I had as a teenager, the sanitary belt would sometimes pop out of the top of my jeans and become visible.

Never in a million years would I have believed then that it would become fashionable to have a thong showing !
