a whole thread about egg and chips!! love it.
My most favourite meal ever is home cooked chips, egg, sausage and tomato. I love it when the egg oozes into the tomato, then have a chip butty with lots of butter to melt (usually over my hands!) and then dip into the egg/tomato yummy, and i really want to eat it right now and we will have for tea tomorrow
Our chippy tea was usually saturday lunch and i would get sent down to the chippy to get them, it was a real treat in those days. I remember though when my mum cooked chips there were 4 kids still at home and so she would do it in two stages and we would normally get seconds as well. ummmmmMPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987

You can do the float test. A glass of water and drop the egg in. If it sinks it's ok, if it's the middle it's still do-able, if it floats it's a goner.
The float test, genius i forgot about that! thankyou kindly'Throw off the bowlines.

Works every time! I think it's the longer life the egg has had, the more air it stores. So the more air it stores, the more it will float. Or thats how my simple brain remembers it anyway
I buy free range eggs from the fruit shop and have seen them last weeks at room temperatureA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

If you want to tantalise your tastebuds even more than talking about egg and chips, go to Flickr and search for 'egg and chips' and prepare to salivate over photos of them too!
I regularly torture myself by searching for pictures of comfort food on there! Why do I do it to myself?0 -

Is it a northern thing to call it chips and egg - and southern egg and chips makes me smile every time I hear chips and eggs because it reminds me of Shirley Valentine - brilliant film!
