  • Yeah it is :(

Think of all the spare cash we will have though, when we are debt free. We won't know what to do with ourselves!

When is your debt free date now?

I am hoping to get rid of all my credit cards before the baby arrives. I don't know whether to just let my loan run out then, or try to overpay my mortgage. Practicality tells me to pay off the loan (makes more sense) but it would be so motivating to pay off some of the mortgage. I suppose I have to get rid of the credit cards first. Another 7k - now that is very depressing :(

My DFD is now April 2012, but want it to come forward to November 2011, my 33rd birthday.

I don't have a mortgage and I'm still struggling with my low wage and student loan. :( Couple of grand jump in wages would be great, so I think I'll have to start seriously thinking about/looking for new jobs. Sometimes life is soooo depressing. Even if I wouldn't have any debt, it still wouldn't be easy and I still might not afford to live on my own. :(

It's maybe time for you to look for another job then. Is there many jobs in your area at the moment? It sounds like a better paid job would change your life. Have you been actively looking?

I don't think there's much around. My friend had to move back to Devon and got a job there as couldn't get anything in Cardiff. I haven't been actively looking no as don't know what I want to go for. I think I need to start though because it would make a massive difference. I might have to check what kind of jobs have better salaries and what I'd need to do to get one of those jobs. Just seems my focus is all on debt busting and surviving and don't have 'time' to do anything else (except for my hobbies of course) but I'm not necessarily going too 'clever' about it.

Maybe you could dedicate 1 evening per week towards job hunting? (maybe when the paper comes out with jobs) I don't know what your area is like, but mine requires quite a lot of applicaions and writing essays about how good you are etc etc. Even getting out there and getting interviews would probably boost your confidence :)

You are right CMD, I need to start making a proper effort. Nothings going to happen if I don't put the work in. I just hate job hunting, writing covering letters etc...Not really a high flying career woman me...:o:rolleyes:

I'm not overly fond of it myself! Just imagine how you will feel though, if you land a job that pays more. You will get rid of your debts quicker and then have a good life. That is worth all the application forms in the world!

    Morning all.

How long are you going to Ireland for CMD?

I haven't done any calculations yet, but I'm thinking about lowering my loan payments next year so I can have a bit more of a life. I'm planning to do this next year, after I've paid all the interest off and can concentrate on lowering the actual capital. This would obviously push back my DF date, but it might be worth it. I am planning of finding another, better paid job before (hopefully) next summer so then I could obviously pay more of the loan again. I just really feel it's a struggle and just talked to bf about holidays and what he wants to do next year and realising that I probably won't have enough money for even one holiday. :( Will do all the calculations, but it's something I'm seriously starting to think about. Obviously all the extra money I make, would go towards loan.

I think that sounds like a very sensible idea. You still need to live, and things do sound extremely tight for you at the moment. As you say, any extra money can go on overpayments and when you get a better paid job you can overpay as well :)

Don't feel bad about it. You will get the debt paid off, and at least you won't feel as stressed.
