Hmmm, well I found a really, really nice A901 but after using the A701 only for the last few months, I think I prefer the A701. It does start out slower so have not had to use a tea towel (but have had one at the ready) and seems more solidly built and looks nicer, too IMO.
I'm ebaying the A901 and sticking to my Major and the A701 - I've got to cut down on these mixers!!! Somebody stop me from buying more - it's an addiction!!!

Hi Lynn. Given you are an expert on these things, I'm glad I got the 701 now. Not that there's probably anything wrong with the 901s I just worried that a 701 wouldn't be so good given it was older. But I've been more than happy with what I have done with mine so far.0

Lynn - Can a liquidiser fit BOTh a 901 and 701? I thought the liquidisers were for different for the two models.0
-
The liquidisers have a different base for the A701 and the A901, so you need to make sure you get the right one for your mixer.
Very useful they are too - you can make the easiest white sauces, cheese sauces and custard using them, and of course fab for soup!!
White Sauce
1 oz butter
1 oz flour
1/2 pint milk
Place all ingredients in the liquidser and blend for 30 seconds on max. speed. Pour into a saucepan, bring to a boil and boil for 2 mins, stirring continuously until thickened. Season to taste. (I add 1-2 tsp. of veg or chicken stock powder at blending stage as well.)
Parsley sauce: add a few sprigs of parsley at blending stage, cook as above
Onion sauce: add 1 large onion roughly chopped, at blending stage, cook as above
Cheese sauce: add 2-3 ounces cubed at blending stage, cook as above
(I also add 1 tsp. mustard powder, really yummy for cauliflower cheese!)
These are really good for people who don't like making a roux or usually end up with lumpy sauces!
Custard:
1 pint milk
3 ounces sugar
1 egg
1 ounce butter
1 ounce cornflour
1/2 to 1 tsp vanilla essence
Put all ingredients into liquidiser.Blend for 30 secs. Pour into a saucepan and cook over a medium heat until mixture thickens and boils, stirring constantly.
These can be done in any blender.

ps they are quite rare but I have seen A701 liquidisers that have a funky orange base and lid to match your chef!!:p:happylove0

Thanks Lynn. I am trying my hardest to wait until after my holiday in a couple of weeks before getting the liquidiser, but saw a reasonably priced one which is going to finish shortly on Ebay, but it says it fits both, which I had my doubts about. So I will steer clear. Would you favour a glass one over a plastic one or vice versa?0
-
I prefer plastic - the glass ones are really heavy and easy to chip.

That was my concern about glass ones too. And presumably the postage will be cheaper for plastic too!0

I took the top off my KC and changed the grease. It was just a case of sticking a q-tip into the little hole and sqeezing the old stuff out and replacing it with new. I think just give it a quick wipe down before replacing the top.
Does anyone do more than this? I'm just wondering what these service people do to make them run better?0 -
Lynn - are the mixing bowls interchangeable between the 701s and 901s?0
