There is a group called "we actually collect electric mixers" that I was given a link to:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WACEM/
and they are very helpful!
Bit too technical for me though!
I keep my kenwood out, ready for action (have tiny kitchen though!) that way I use it and it doesn't gather dust in back of cupboard. I am thinking of getting a cover for it - don't suppose anyone has a pattern or link to one by any chance? Would be prefer to be Oldstylee and save the money by making myself! :money:0 -
leonie - I should give the 701 a try - you might like it! I think it's the better machine - just look at all those 40+ year old ones that are still going. Spares are still available, too.
flea - I also use a teatowel rather than a splashguard on my 901, as I figured that cleaning a splashguard was more effort than throwing a teatowel in the washing machine. If we are supposed to be thin, why does chocolate exist?0 -
Thanks i'll have another look at the 701 then. It seems very strong but there was a bit of a burning smell when I turned it on so I think i'll take it to bits and give it a bit of a clean and oil.0

It came on Saturday morning! Very early. I was supposed to be having a lay in and I heard someone open and shut the porch about 6.45. Of course I had to go and play with my new toy, so much for the lay in. Anyway, I'm very pleased with it. It is very clean and only a tiny bit of wear to the paint around the bowl which is to be expected probably. Not too noisy. Ran down to Sainsburys on Saturday after cleaning it and got some cream and made my own butter. So had fresh butter by 8.30! Whipped up eggs for scrambled eggs using some of the buter milk in them which made it really creamy. Then made some fairy cakes yesterday. The only problem I had was that when making the cakes, the beater seemed to be leaving some of the mixture unbeaten at the bottom of the bowl and I had to stop the machine and scrape it up. Is this normal or maybe I have to adjust the beater down a bit (I had to adjust the whisk up because it was knocking the bottom of the bowl). I also spent two and a half hours walking round a car boot sale yesterday looking for attachments, but didn't find anything. Anyway, stepped out my front door this morning and there was another parcel which would be the grater/slicer I have bought, so really wanted to stay home and play, but no such luck. Can't wait to get home and open it.:T0

I got my kenwood chef this weekend too! A couple were selling an A901, collection only, so my OH drove me round there on Sunday. However whistler-alison has put me to shame, I haven't used mine yet - had a bit of a cake-filled weekend and the last thing i wanted to do was put more temptation in my way - however we have the final tier of the wedding cake to make this weekend, and OH is very pleased about not having to cream in all the butter and sugar again!
Mine too has a bit of a smell to it when it gets going so your reassurance is very ... well, reassuring, Lynn!Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94
Current debt: £14,000.00
Debt free date: June 20080 -

Oh - tell me about it!!! I've got less than a month now to my holiday and am desperately trying to lose a few pounds. I probably picked completely the wrong time to make this purchase!0 -

yes, I would think the beater needs to be lowered. I keep mine set so they just clear the bowl. Occasionally I need to scrape down the side of the bowl, but never the bottom.
Glad you are happy with your new toy! :rotfl:

Thanks Lynn. Can't wait to get home for a super shredding session! Will probably have to have coleslaw for the rest of the week now.0
