Shell Credit Card - Cashback cutback
Comments

I have both citi and egg money credit cards. Egg money is virtually unusable because they block all large transactions
Exactly the same experience with Shell Citi. In fact this is the only one of my cards that constantly blocks unusual transactions, I use Tescos then - never fails. All my life my mother told me the storm was coming (c) Terminator 30 -
Had this card from the start and earned a lot of cashback during that time. The cashback was the ONLY thing that kept me there as the customer sevice is truly shocking. The Indian call centres are truly awful and you can only speak to a UK based manager if you book a "call-back" and then they will only call back within 48hrs - unreal and unreliable.
They blocked my card 3 times in 4 months without telling me for "suspicious" transactions despite them occuring 10 miles from my house (computer simply said no).
Got very angry on first two occasions and am going through third now. Got £57.50 in compensation for the first two blocks, far better than cashback but this card is dead in the water as I have just applied for and been approved for a cashback Barclaycard.
Good riddance to bad plastic.0 -
Strangely enough I have never ever had any problems with Citi Financial Europe declining any transactions on this Mastercard, not even since I started using it as my main credit card instead of Egg Money at the start of this year (after Egg Money refused to increase my credit limit on that card and tried to charge me a penalty fee for exceeding the credit limit of only £1750 compared to £4500 on the Shell Citi Mastercard).
When I used Egg Money as my regular credit card I frequently received the annoying automated calls on my home phone number asking me to confirm apparently innocuous transactions in the UK for small monetary values.
I previously also cancelled all my NatWest Credit cards that I had used for over 20 years quite happily after RBS's totally paranoid new security measures meant that whenever you purchased electrical goods at more than two retailers in the same day in London they required long and humiliating telephone security verification at the till and then not content with that always tried to contact you at home and if you were not at home within the next 24 hours to get that message then put an immediate temporary block on the card.
The most reliable card I have for never being blocked is my Nationwide Cash Reward Visa card that I use exclusively for all my overseas transactions (which would inherently tend to make it more at risk of being blocked in the first place) and I have never had one query even on using it in two foreign countries (eg USA and Canada) within an hour or two of each other and/or using it for various online foreign transactions.
I do find it unbelievable that Citi launched this card with the fuel cashback in total and utter disarray due to half the Shell petrol stations in the UK being classified as being in Denmark (why couldn't they just have paid 3% cashback at all Shell petrol across the EU) but then finally got this right only for the cretins at Citi to think we would tolerate having our cashback slashed not only on the fuel but also on other purchasers to a rate greatly surpassed by several well known competitors. Yet still the marketing department cretins at Citi are happy to go on offering us 1% cashback on Egg Money. And for this cretinosity and quite needless product churn they are no doubt still being paid six digit salaries.:mad:0 -

Same here - My card is always being blocked by Citibank - has even happened twice at a Shell garage! and last year I even told them I was going to Australia for the summer - named the towns and citues I was going to and they still declined it!
Haven't paid much attention to the amount of cashback I have been getting but since having this card since February I have got £115 cashback!
It seems crazy to dump such a good scheme that really has inspired loyalty in my petrol purchasing habits - have even gone out of my way to get fuel from a Shell garage - good job down the road from work is a Sainsbury's that is always the same price!
Will keep hold of the card but just won't use it.0 -
I'm sure its not Shell's fault that the cashback is being slashed - if you google for shell mastercard, you can still get cards in other countries with decent cashback - more likely to be Citi cutting what they pay
I don't think a boycott by a very small class of customers will cause much effect on Shell!0 -

Anyone who feels as upset about this as I do might like to email those most responsible for the decision. There is no point at all in speaking to the call centre jockeys in India as they clearly have no control over this decision and had nothing to do with it.
The people to vent your spleen on are as follows:-
John Jones - john.jones@citi.com -- Head of Cards
and
Bert Pijls - bert.pijls@citi.com - CEO of City Financial Europe and Egg
Of if you want to try and catch them on the phone then call 01332 335127 and ask for the switchboard in Derby to put you through.
As well as the Shell card (cancellation sent), Citi are also cancelling the cashback on their standard credit card, after a letter I got today - The 1% cashback offer will not be earned after end October 2009 and all cashbacks will be settled in December 2009. After that, I'll be cancelling. Shame, as it's earned several hundred pounds per year for me.
And the address that is highlighted in the thread above produces this response below from an American Citi employee, who must be delighted to be receiving lots of moans from the UK!
The Head of Card Product Management on my letter is Mark Powys, in case mark.powys@citi.com works....

Or if you fill up in Tesco, then you get 2x clubcard points - giving you 2% discount (as Tesco voucher) plus the 0.25% from Shell card hence a total of 2.25%!0 -
How does the Shell Drivers Card work?
I have had one of these since getting a Citi card in Feb/March time but have never received anything from them - have checked and I am registered...
Is it like the Sainsbury's/Tesco reward card, what is the reward for every £ spend?
EDIT: just seen that it is 1 point for every litre of Shell fuel you buyMoney Off Shell Fuel
500 points are worth L2.50 in vouchers, which can be used for money off when you purchase Shell fuel. Vouchers are sent automatically with your quarterly statement.
Will have to give them a call as I have never had anything in the post from them!0 -
How does the Shell Drivers Card work?
When you buy shell fuel, you hand over your Drivers card and it is swiped. You should then get points added to your driver's card account. Once you have enough points, you can exchange them for rewards. If you visit the drivers card website, you can register and choose which rewards you want.
