Yet again, corporate idiots who only care about the size of thier profit related bonus strike again. A loyalty scheme that actually works very well and they have ruined it completely. again the british public get screwed over due to the "economic climate". Out of principle now im not going to go to a shell garage again, although i will keep my card in the hope that in the future the offer will return. Im probably not alone in saying this that i feel rather let down and will take my business elsewhere. does it seem like a good change now mr bigwig citi ceo? Ive just logged into my account and seen that ive spent over 6k in petrol since ive had the card in only just under 18 months. now thats a lot to lose out on from the 1st of october and im only just one customer.
Thats all you can do is vote with your feet and using other companies.

Only on £160 or so a month annual spend- £2000 a year, with 0.5% on the rest which isn't bad. Shell card for fuel, Barclay for normal spend.
  • Up until my last statement August I had earned £188 cash back purely on fuel.

This is the one card that had inspired loyalty and promotion to friends and family, despite the Indian call centre staff driving me nutz on occasion. I even forgo the 5p supermarket discount in preference to Shell loyalty.

I shall be considering the other options out there but First off,

I'll suspend using shell for at least a month from October 1st perhaps if enough of us all do so, then they may get the message? anyway can we have a poll or vote on concerted action?

Seems like a corporate decision from posts on here, but I agree loyalty like this that they seem to have engendered in so many could turn out to bite them back, such short sightedness.

    Shell :naughty: false economy.
  • Got this letter yesterday and was rather peed off!
I took out the card about 5 months ago, and like many did it solely for the cashback deal it offered. Shell is my local garage which I pass on my way to work. It is also the joint cheapest in the area.
So my dilemma is, do I keep using them even though they've annoyed me so much, or do I go out of my way (resulting in spending more) to get my petrol elsewhere?

Would consider getting another Credit Card, but having moved house only 3 months ago, plus having 3 other cards already* I don't know whether it would do my credit rating much good.

*Egg card which is joint with Partner (cleared monthly)
Halifax card with a L.O.B. transfer on it
John Lewis Partnership card (only way to get credit and staff discount, but rarely use it - currently zero balance)

    Nick
£5850 in the rainy day fund - target £9000
£575 in OH 40th BDay Account - target £5000 by April 2013
  • I have both citi and egg money credit cards. Egg money is virtually unusable because they block all large transactions and anyway it's too long time to wait for their cashback once a year. I found Leeds building society with 0.5% straight forward cashback every month and BT credit card with 0.75% cashback (off their bill). Is there anything else?

I've had one of these cards for a couple of years and am very disappointed with this reduction in benefits. I already have another credit card that pays 1% of all purchases, as of the end of this month the Shell card is going to be cut up and closed, and I won't be using Shell fuel anymore.

I got the letter yesterday and was initially really pee'd off. Complained to my wife that I'd cancel it, that'll serve 'em right!

But now I've had a chance to calm down, I think I may end up keeping it. I really want to cancel and tell them why. Register my disgust. But the fact is I always buy my fuel from Shell (closest and cheapest) and 1% is better than nothing.

The 0.25% on other purchases is rediculous. It's so small as to make no difference to me. Yet again, I don't want to go through the trouble of searching and applying for another card, to only be a couple of quid better off.

I'd actually forgotten about the Motor Legal Protection, but to be told it's now gone is still a bummer.

I clear my balance in full each month, so the interest rate really isn't an issue.

End result - I'll fume a little, but probably keep the card going.

You could contact them and threaten to go elsewhere for fuel in future (obviously don't tell them they are the most convenient for you!) but from what others have said on here you won't get a reply from them anyway.

  • Will switch to using Amex for Shell fuel to bump up the spend and reach the 1.5% band (soon to be 1.25% :( ). Although the nice thing about the Shell card is you get the cashback the following month and not at the end of the year. If I want 0.25% cashback on other spend, I still have my Nationwide cashback card! Bye bye Shell card.
