Shell Credit Card - Cashback cutback
Comments
-
Below are the names and email addresses of the Chairman, Deputy Chairman and the Executive Directors of Royal Dutch Shell if anyone also wants to make their feelings known in that quarter.
It is quite pointless trying to give any feedback at all to Shell UK as their London head office switchboard simply refuses to connect you to anyone who will take comments from mere Shell petrol customers (they suggest only that you write to them using a quill pen, stamp and an envelope or as I tend to interpret it - "please go away you annoying mere petrol customer") on the phone and instead insist that you write to them and unfortunately their only official customer contact point for fuel for the UK is now a call centre in the Philippinnes.
Sadly Linda Cook, who on the face of it would seem to have the greatest potential interest in the question of the change of Terms and Conditions on the Shell Citi Mastercard, is currently having her public email address blocked from any of us plebs in the world at large but I got no bounce backs at all from the other Shell directors and there is confirmation of these email addresses at http://royaldutchshellplc.com/2008/11/13/overnight-email-correspondence-with-richard-wiseman-chief-ethics-and-compliance-officer-of-royal-dutch-shell-plc/
So I would suggest you concentrate your emails on the Chairman and Deputy Chairman, Chief Executive and Chief Financial Officer. I doubt that Malcolm Brinded has much to do with this decision, although ultimately he might be short of customers to buy the oil he is in charge of the extraction of if this hugely customer crunching decision is not reviewed.
**EDIT:- THE BELOW LIST IS NOW OUT OF DATE SO PLEASE SEE THE MORE UP TO DATE DIRECTOR LIST FURTHER DOWN THIS THREAD.**

Well Shell don't provide their current list of directors under Corporate Responsibility or similar on their website and my only recent source for their directors was therefore the director page in their last Annual Report at www.annualreportandform20f.shell.com/2008/reportofthedirectors/boardofdirectors.php
If you know who has replaced Linda Cook and/or who is in charge of Shell UK and/or their trading division for their UK petrol forecourts then please do let us know. In fact now answering my own question all is revealed at http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/natural_resources/article6368235.ece
Since Peter Voser was formerly Chief Financial Officer then perhaps this explains the vicious slashing of the benefits of Shell's main UK loyalty credit card. I bet his salary and bonuses haven't gone down at all though. In fact no doubt quite the reverse given his new more lofty position. It seems that Mrs Cook also won't have to worry about the price of a litre of petrol for quite some time to come.:mad:0 -
I can't quote on his salary or bonuses but there are huge staff redundancies and people having to apply for their own jobs. Contractors got no pay increase this year (some were even asked to take a pay cut!!) and many, many departments are being shifted to Philippines, India and elsewhere.

Most of the changes happened as of 1st July 2009. Linda Cook left in May.

It seems that the loyal customers of their petrol brand for the last 25 or more years like myself are also amongst the casualties then.:mad:0 -
You have to be a consumer tart these days and recognise big companies look out for their shareholders first, customers and staff don't come into the equation.

Surely you mean that the financial interests of the directors always come first in large multinationals, then the shareholders come next and then the customers and the rest of the staff come behind both of those in that order. And these characters always then move on to somewhere else before the havoc they wreak manages to catch up with them. It still seems that the lessons of Sir Fred Goodwin have not been learned by those in charge because they have a vested financial interest in not learning them.
The Shell fuel loyalty scheme is a particularly bad case in point with us having the excellent pan European wide and Smart card based (years before the technology was widely adopted) Shell Select loyalty scheme for many years only for that to be replaced by the utterly miserable Shell Pluspoints (presumably to massage the ego of some new Shell director that they had done something and swept away their predecessors works) but after that only lasted for about a year or two we then had the excellent (in terms of benefits and ease of receiving the benefits) Shell Citi Mastercard but initially marred by teething problems with the Indians who were running it not knowing which fuel stations were in which countries in Europe (why the 3% discount was not Pan European in nature is quite beyond me as both Shell and Mastercard are multinational). Then just as all that was fully sorted out and I was feeling good about the whole Shell Citi Mastercard and Drivers Club loyalty schemes they render the whole thing near completely worthless so that all my good will towards Shell is lost.
I think I will now make a point of buying my petrol anywhere else but Shell with my Egg Mastercard just in order to teach Shell a lesson not to take me for granted.:mad:0 -
NonGeographicalMan wrote: »So if you also like getting other cashback on your purchases then you need to apply for Egg Money as that pays 1% cashback and although they charge a £1 monthly fee I suspect for most users that works out at around at least 0.8% cashback (£500 per month average spend). I am one of the lucky ones as I already had an Egg Money card so I won't be subjected to the £1 per month fee and will get the full 1% (I have called them and they confirm this is the case).
I used to have an Egg card, have just logged into the old account and it says I closed it on 13 November 2007. Wonder if I contacted them they would be able to reopen the account and not charge me the quid or if I would need to go though the whole application process again and be treated as a new customer.
Think I may hold out to January and see if any new deals come out then.0 -
I'm an A&L premier direct current account holder and I've always been happy enough with their cashback ccard, but suddenly tying in with Santander means they have just written to the wife telling her of their new Santander card with no foreign fees on wall machines or purchases just like the Abbey card.Ive told her to bite their hand off but keep the A&L for all home purchases. Can't wait 'til they write to me. I'd get on this one if I were you even if it means switching accounts it is still a decent current acc.0
